Quahtemoc and Montezuma are two different people, Montezuma died and Quahtemoc took over, you can hear him the whole campaign. He died to the Spanish later, but in the Viper's playthrough, he survived.

*History Lesson* Fun Fact: This mission is kinda accurate since the Trade Carts ressemble resources that the Moorish looted from the region. what *REALLY* happened is that Charles Martel heavy infantry could withstand the constant charge of the Moors, while the fight was raging on, another smaller group sabotaged the Moorish Camp not so far to the Battlefield, once they knew they Franks were recovering *ALL* the loot that they stole, the Moorish rushed back to the camp to find it was already late, and the Moorish General was Killed in battle, because he chose to fight instead of pulling back.

The battles of the conquerors will be very varied, in both scale, objectives and starts. Yo will have everything from fortified cities like this one to a couple of troops. Sometimes you will have villagers, and sometimes you will not. And you just wait until the battles of the forgotten.

The signs have triggers on them when you select them and give you those chat messages like "No spitting" etc. Also a really good way of defeating the initial army is putting the axe throwers behind your wall and just picking them off while they stupidly attack it, and focus the Mamelukes with the towers.

but the fact that you can win it by just creating pikemen makes it insanelly easy, pikemen are cheaper, faster and easier to create, and you mop the floor with all those sarracen cavalry, i tell you, I have already played that mission and won it like that on hardest mode, it was the first thing i did when playing, desperatelly spamming spearmen 11 11 11

That's good. It is as far as any historian can ascertain more or less what the Franks of the time did. Whilst the Umayyad invasion of Gascony failed mostly as the result of insufficient logistics and military intelligence most military historians agree that there is some truth in the narrative as explained in the clips in the game. The Franks did fight the Umayyids in an unorthodox manner for the time and location. It translates into the game mechanics as well. The Franks are a powerhouse knight civ (in AoK even more so than in AoC - AoK shipped with no halb or bloodlines making Frankish knights very powerful). The idea of spamming infantry as the Franks seems weak on paper but the campaign is making a point (I would argue) that sometimes in war the point isn't to fight to your strengths but to your opponents weakness. The Umayyids of the 8th centuary were unprepared for Martel's tactics partly because armies that had conquered their way from Cairo to Poitiers were acostomed to winning in a particular style. One thing worth remembering is that when this campaign was written for the game the Franks were regarded as the best Civ bar none because of their strong knight play. Players were expected to play into a style that would have seen them find this particularly hard to win with a pure knight build until it struck them to do as you suggest and move away from the meta of the time to an unorthodox strategy.

The "click the signs for directions" thingy is just a trigger that is fired when you click a sign, it outputs a message in the top left corner (like "approaching Poitiers" or "Poitiers gate, no spitting" - never seen that easter egg before actually!). You can't actually rename a "sign" object in the scenario editor so they had to resort to that technique. Side note, "Tours" is pronounced "Tour". Looking forward to Vinland saga! (Even if all the Icelanders tell me it's not accurate)

I just round up my starting force and take out the Berbers' base at the start. Better to trade an army for a base than lose your army in vain. Or sneak your army into the gates, the axemen and especially Charles Martel do a great job defending from within the walls because most enemies are melee units. But the Berbers only train weak units and the Moors stay in the Castle Age making this mission a piece of cake regardless.

Your initial aggressive attack which cost Martel his life also pulverized a great many of the hordes coming against Tours. Without that fight, it would have been needful to upgrade to fortified walls and towers and even the use of more castles. Great strategy

When I played on hard, I built 1 castle for each TC and indeed hit the hordes with TA; still found it needful to upgrade towers and walls; I am not the Viper..he is an amazing player ; just watched the Lion and the Demon in the Saladin series; wow beat them all!
