Weak early but with soldiers able to make walls, you can potentially make an early army to defend yourself and wack up large amounts of palisades, even on an open map. English will still destroy them early on, though. English and abbasid are probably their biggest counters.

Hey age of empires, can you make elephants hitting building animation more realistic? Like in age 3 mohout lancers did. Properly going back and then throwing themselves at building. It improves the gameplay and satisfaction to watch elephants go dam dam into building. Anyways this game looks Great and I mean it. GREAT. The kind of new uniqueness given to every civ is very good!

Feels a very weird choice to have an Indian Civilization and then have it completely Islamic. I know the history and all, but I wish they went for unity in diversity approach they had for Age of Empires 3 with troops from multiple religions and regions. Could have done the same here. Using a Muslim civ for India is like using the Normans for England, Kublai Khan or the Qing Dynasty for China, or the Hapsburgs or al-Andalus for Spain, or even Spain for Mexico or the Aztecs. Although there were Muslim civilisations in medieval India, this looks out of place.

there should be diff clans in indian campaign because delhi sultanate was established by foreign civilization developing with contrast of indian civilization....... i was thinking in this series they will add campaign of maratha empire , rajputs revolt against mughals, sikh empire, tipu sultan against british, mauryan daynasty,chandragupt against alexander, poras against roman....... n if there were some of them the game would have blown among indians...... hope we may see them in next one.......

Looks like a difficult civilization to master. The preview mentions their efficiency in respect to all the resources saved on researching technologies, but I wonder if their war elephants will be as population efficient as they were in Age of Empires 2. Are they taking up multiple pop spots or is that only siege? The free technologies do suggest that there might be be a lot of leeway for pursuing out-of-the-box, novel strategies using the Delhi Sultanate. I could see people trying early aggressive strategies even though the civ seems more bent towards the mid and late game.

I only saw war elephant from one demo game, but I like how they implement tower war elephant where both the elephant and archers are independent so you practically turn it into a moving tower that could also do melee damage. I still need to see other units tho.

Elephants take 3 pop space but remember, the tower elephant has two archers on top of it that constantly fire at anything in range, independent of what the elephant is doing. The war elephant has a spearman on top which really does act as a spearmen and is fantastic for stabbing cav from above lol.

Yea. Getting asymmetrical balance right is SO INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. I think SC2 is the game who has managed to pull it off the best, and they were actively trying to balance the three factions for years and years, and there's still people complaining how unbalanced the factions are.

This still my favorite civ/race ever in any RTS. They have undergone a lot of changes of identity but they are now back at their core where Elephants ( war elephants and the special Elite versions with hand canons from the imperial landmark) are viable and super fun. And ofc scholars are the allstar unit that gets your techs going ( eco boost/military tech) , gets sacred sites early ( eco boost or straight up win condition), battle healing, or boosting military unit production. Or they gather relics ofc. This civ is just the best 😍🥳

The game is very nice. But as an Indian, I feel sad about the civilization. Choosing the Delhi sultanate = Mughal empire which also means mongol. But, this empire was not mongolian it was Turkish. It was better to go with the Maurya empire. Which is one of the best known and loved empire of India rather than this civilization which is still hated by a lot of Indians.

You're gonna have to keep an eye out for early raiding civs like the Mongols or Abbasid Dynasty. From the sound of this trailer, Delhi Sultanate is extra vulnerable in the early game. Though that could be mitigated in a team game, provided your allies have your back and defend you well enough for you to repay them in the late game.

Would've really loved to play as the more historically accurate version of The Delhi Sultanate. With raiders as their special unit, and raiding/pillaging as a passive mechanic where destroying educational and religious establishments earns you massive sums of gold and religious piety, a currency you can use to further create such unique military units for more holy wars, raids and expeditions. An economy of mass subjugation, loot and slavery of rich pagans making units and construction much cheaper and faster, the early game being really strong, but a downside being a lapse in technological growth, increased time and cost, and a lack of available research, bcz of little regard for education and long-term sophisticated development, and more on immediate militaristic prowess, making the late game tougher. Ironically, what they went for, making it "the technological powerhouse" is the exact opposite of this.

@@MrDibara Also, since many soldiers under the Delhi Sultanate were actually hindus, who didn't have any issue with eating pork(which this mechanic kinda makes it illogical and forceful), but would rather not eat beef for their own religious reasons, would the addition of cattle and other animals also make up for that similar detail?

i love war elefants and the building flair of indian culture but - two things i still hope to see maybe with a patch in the near future: give the elephants a more impactful melee attack please AND give the infanterie a building animation like you give it the Ulfsarks back in AoM PLEASE

I agree, the elephants melee attack animation is lacking to say the least. And the infantry just standing still while building is also pretty awkward, unlike Norse in AoM and Russians in AoE 3. I hope they patch that before release. I don't think the infantry construction animation would be too difficul to implement at this stage, though I'm not that certain about the elephant's melee attack animation.

I'm kinda new to this franchise. I definitely played the older games but only against AI and many years ago, but I dabbled with the stress test and learned some builds a few weeks ago to get an idea of how the game plays. Won't people mostly use the wall building as abuse for tower rushing and walling people either in or out when pushing out? Could easily see some quick wall+tower base rush or use them to push for strategic middle and just troll with constant wall building whilst not having to worry about vulnerable units at the front..

Dude, the first time I saw how freaking fast Mahout Lancers and Howdahs were, I was absolutely terrified! Granted, it made more sense. Elephants are actually very fast animals, unlike the slowpoke behemoths Age games usually despict them as. _(yeah, I know it's for balancing reasons, but still...)_
