I would suggest doing multiple scenarios in a similar fashion to what Spirit of law does in AoE2 You did axes vs fanatics in equal numbers , but try also in: 1) equal population (fanas consume 1 pop space more IIRC) 2) equal resources (fanas are more expensive) 3) 1 and 2 combined

Unfortunately, I've never played AoE2. I've only played a little bit of AoE3.

exactly what i was thinking, spirit of the law often try multiple time the experiment just to be sure that random do not affect the result

I always expected Fanatics to win, but that can't have been cost-effective at all

Fanatic is fortress unit, and more expensive and population, of course fanatic win

Don't forget that you must upgrade Axeman separately, and they are total trash against archers and mounted units. I know it is Classical age unit but I think it is not that good.

The axemen won in my eyes due to being far cheaper and only taking 2 population slots

The 2 stronger anti-infantry units are fighting each other. 1) Fanatic 2) Axeman 3) Hipaspyst 4) Chinese Horse-Spearman 5) Myrmidon 6) Egyptian Spearman(Snake,bird with Swords) 7) Hoplite(minotaur) 8) Chinese Spearman (Monkey,Zombie,Dragon turtle) 9) Murmilo (oceanos the god) 10) I don't remember 11) I don't remember
