Gameplay looks great and the graphics are stunning - but man I can't get used to the voice acting it is so jarring compared to the original

Well, sorry, but this game looks worse than Age of Empires 3 DE... How can you tell that these graphics are stunning? I thought they would upgrade all the building models etc, but roofs looks terrible for example, same with the trees. It is not looking great, not even close to stunning. It looks just better than regular AoM sadly...

Been awhile since I've played AoE3 I do think it looks better than the original AoM though. There are few things and unit movements that do look weird though. Still the beta, maybe they can make some adjustments

@@elwow4351 I tried replacing the new voice acting with the classic and it worked perfectly! Extract the contents of the .BAR file, replace the new mp3 files with the classic game ones, repack the new .bar file and thats it!

The voice acting isn't great, but I found on Reddit that you can replace the new voice acting with the classic, and it worked perfectly! Extract the contents of the .BAR file, replace the new MP3 files with the classic game ones, repack the .BAR file, and that's it! By the way, Mission 3 map is my favorite!

Good to know! I enjoyed all the missions for the most part. Last one was the most challenging for me.

I'm guessing they thought they could do better, which is a weird thing to think considering the nostalgia. Definitely looking forward to the mods.

I just cannot stand the new voices and the Mobile phone Character portrait taking 40% of the screen. The voices / actors were one of the reason we all fell in love with AOM. Their voices, lines and the way they delivered it. All ruined. I'm sick of dev's "remastering" classic games while changing core and sacred aspects from the classics. I was so excited about this remaster. But i can't do it. Pass for me.

The voice acting seems to be the weakest link, and the UI as well. I hope those are adjustments they can make going forward.

This isn't a remaster, though. We already have the remaster on Steam. It's called Extended Edition. Retold is a remake. Although, I do prefer the original voice acting and will likely mod it in.

I'm not sure what accent they were going for. But I agree it doesn't exactly sound greek.

Man, those new Voice-overs suck :( Tho the graphics look great so far, the UI and all these other unnecessary changes are a real bummer tbh

The UI has been messy for sure and the hotkeys for the Norse have been difficult, especially with the military units needing to build buildings. And there were sudden cut offs in the cut scenes. I'm thinking they'll be able to fix those? I haven't played the original AoM campaign in many years, I'm not sure how they compare.

Is it just me or is the first mission in Titanic a lot easier than before? That if I remember correctly, when the Atlantean army arrived, it was the enemies who used a rain of lightning, not Arkantos

I couldn't tell who the lightning was for either lol. I thought it was being used on me, but it seemed most of my things survived?

Yes it appears so but they also still have settlements, too. I'm not sure what the difference is exactly.

@@GettingBetter-zv6ok the tooltip mentioned the difference: without a settlement, it's considered a "village center" and doesn't contribute to pop cap + works slower/hits softer.

Ah that makes sense. I think the settlements still add extra max population passed the cap, like it did in the original

I'll be honest. This is not much of an upgrade. Decent graphics - but very poor by 2024 standards. Atrocious voice acting by a bunch of amateurs. Interface is bloated. Some of the artwork is good for mobile phones, not PC games.

I'm guessing they're trying to strike a balance between the old game and modern technology. Definitely difficult to achieve that. Voice acting has been the weakest point. The interface, I suspect either mods or the developers will make changes eventually.

Yeah the voices aren't the best. There are a lot of sharp cuts, too, which makes me think we haven't gotten the full picture yet.

​@@vincida7432I'm sure there will be an in game mod to replace it with the original voice over. In the original she sounds more godly like a higher being. In the new one she sounds like like a tourist that is lost
