Colossus are primarily building destroyers, not fighting units. 3 Automatons cost a very similar amount to 1 colossus, and are geared towards fighting units. Myth units that deal hack damage with a good multiplier vs. myth units is a pretty important counter to those monstrously tough units. Avengers, Frost Giants, and Automatons are probably some of the best in that category. 22:50 When you build over a corpse in Retold (dead hunt, automatons) I believe the building simply "covers up" the dead unit. If you destroy the building, you can access the corpse again. This is new behavior in Retold and not how it worked in legacy AOM. 24:05 There was a hill bonus in legacy AOM but the required height for it to kick in was so rare to find that, in practice, it didn't exist. Out of 10,000+ hours of my life playing legacy AOM, there as 1 game where the hill bonus was a factor. Crossbowman was so far ahead from that Automaton snowball, he just had no counter to Helepolis. Contarius would've worked very well there, but really he just needed to build a couple Fire Siphons from his palaces instead of Fanatics, as Fire Siphon kill Helepolis and buildings both.

nerfing them will only make them not worth building. the way myth units are suppose to work is that they're meant major luxury where they're better then individual human unit but they're not economically efficient. so if there is nerf to them, it should be related to how much it costs. If anything, all myth unit should be busted. The counter-balance of these units should be their price. if it costs 500 food to build 1 anubis. the anubis can have 25 attack, a jump that does 50 damage which is 2x attack and 500 hp. that looks crazy for a unit but its price so high that building a lot of them isn't exactly better than building human on average. At same time, lower their price too much and a unit said stats could be too strong. that's how it works.

the art is beautiful. The only two things I would change are: 1. When a heroe dies, it was way better to see the soul go to the heavens, the new arrow is complete bullshit. 2. Gea's grass is way to green looks like a weird rug. Also your casting is amazing man, best one out there for sure. Avoid the face camera for ever and you will be solid.

Honestly love the automaton, but I believe that crossbow's mistake was not adapting his strategy quickly enough. The early attacks with automaton were great, they're cool, tanky and recursive; but in the lategame he still raided using mainly just automaton, instead of using them for defense! They're incredible defenders because they can be rebuilt and the carcasses will be right there in your base!! Using the last few automaton as an offensive force instead of using them as defense and attack with the destroyers might have been what lead to the end result Honestly it was an incredible game, props to both players

in aoe2 there is a popular thing called "feudal voy" or i go feudal, that is you stay in the 2nd age and you mass a huge army the insta gg happens if one guy hits the 4th age like 2 minutes before with a castle up, because of a special siege unit that comes out of the castle... when this is the case you have no way to fight back the other guy so you insta gg

Bro, your casting is just amazing!! There is something I don't see anybody doing and I would loooove if you can add some of it to your casting. Which is telling some math information about the features, techs and army in the game. Basically what the Spirit of the Law does in his AoE2 youtube channel. But also including such infos in the casting. It was always hard to see those hidden information in AoM. That is even harder right now because the game is brand new and probably will change a lot in the next months. But if you can keep updated about some core information on next months, that would be so cool. Example: I'd like to know how good dwarven are better than the normal villagers at gathering gold, in numbers.

One thing I'd recommend is commenting on what players are building. There are some gaps in your casts when you get silent. I feel those would be some good times to go through each player's base (when the action is down). Your energy is fuckin' bomb, though, dude!

Nice cast 🙂 Colossus is not really a fighting unit, but rather a siege unit which can somewhat fight back against units. It deals a lot more crush damage (good vs buildings) than hack damage (good vs units). So it's actually okay if it loses to 3 automatons ;-)

some myth units were used . mainly Centaurs for Greeks 2-3 centaurs would insta kill 1 solder if they would focus on him then attack the rest also they were fast but now its better , you are 100% correct , u can kite with ranged myth units or do some cool shit with them, cause its more responsive compared to original version or steam one

i think issue was only very select myth units were good. Centaur was only good myth unit for greek. Laser Crocrotile was only good myth unit for epygt. Norse had 0 good myth units. All of them costed way too much. Mountain giant was only practical myth unit for siege. Alt had automates.

@@sdbana Altlantians mainly build Arcus. 20 arcus is very good. they have high range, super accurate, great damage, good attackspeed. Automates are strong front-line. they protect Arcus. Say you have 10 automates, just 1 automate surviving can repair all 10 automates. They got nerfed in age of mythology. they made them more expensive meaning that they aren't very good units in early game because cost efficiency is not there. The norse can build heroes... but they're just gonna die. retold re-balances 20 Arcus+10 automates probably still works vs Norse but i think superior way to play vs Norse is counter-barracks early game -> Fanatics late game. Automates+Arcus setup is more for Greeks and Egypt.

I feel that the reason why Myth Units were not used in vanilla AoM was that their abilities were clunky and kind of random to use. They were powerful, but nowhere near worth their cost because you had near zero control over them due to how janky AI at the time was. I feel like now with Retold, Myth Units are so much better because you can control when they use their special abilities. Automatons, for instance, needed to be positioned in a specific way without any enemy units near it to start their repair, and we couldn't command it to repair their allies. Now, it seems that you can just tell them to repair one another even as enemy is attacking them. That makes these Myth Units far more valuable imo, and it is so refreshing to see them be a viable option in the game... an in return, making Heroic Units just that much important.

Interesting that you say that about AOE2, certainly the castle age brings out a lot, but the 800 food and 200 gold has to count for something -- I'm sure if a player puts this much into Spearmen and archers, he could hold off a castle age opponent for a limited time. Simply hitting castle age means you can make knights but not much else. Everything else has to be researched. It unlocks the doors to those, sure, but it doesn't automatically push a player into whats called "post castle age", meaning, researching all the techs. Castle age is much stronger though, no doubt about that.

Yeah, my biggest gripe with the original AoM was that myth units weren't worth the pop space. Better to just make swarms of basic troops and siege. And if that's the case I'll just play AoE2/4.

Atlanteans will see Kronos (particularly the Kronos Rush variety, due to Temporal Chaos) and Gaia become meta, and Oranos fall off.

​@@Yodesla Think about it. - Kronos can shift multiple buildings at once, and on every age-up, he gets an extra myth unit. This allows for faster and more aggressive builds. - Gaia starts with Hero Citizens, who are more efficient than regular Citizens, and her economic upgrades are cheaper and available an age earlier, meaning Hunting Dogs in the Classical Age. This makes her a boom monster. - Oranos, on the other hand, no longer has human unit speed by default, now limited only to infantry, and locked by a tech. This is, in essence, a nerf to him. And, while his Sky Passages cost only 5 Favour, it has build limits, although it increases with age. With all that being said, maybe I was a bit too harsh when I said that Oranos will fall off, because I am unsure how the minor gods will factor in all of this.

I don't understand the appeal of casting/shoutcasting or whatever. I think you're doing a great job at it, I just don't personally get the appeal of overhyping what is on-screen but to each their own. I'd like to see more analytical comments, there aren't many maps in AoM so high hunt, low hunt, bush placements, etc at game start, husbandry timings, age up timings as well are important. And in the long run, a bit of a more predictive commentary; or at the very least a description of the army composition. Still, any love this game can get makes me happy, hope your channel grows!

i think you could put the stream chat on stream. i like it on t90s videos you could also enable alerts but make them more subtle maybe? i mean you already talk with chat and react to alerts etc. why not put them on screen as well so we know what ur talking or not talking about

eh maybe i can find a way to do it for the livestreams and have it off for the vods. I know im talking to the stream/chat but thats only because right now u cannot watch replays. Once the game is out/replays are working there wont be a chat for a lot of these. They will be recorded non/live

@@Yodesla bro i like stream uploads. i like them even more with livechat on the screen. and the alerts dont bother me at all but i can see it bothering others. if i had to pick between offline casts and Livestream cast vids with onscreen chats and alerts, i would pick the stream ones. they feel more natural, more social, more involved. Offline casts have a higher chance to get stale imo. thats just my opinion thou. take care. thanks for the reply

Is that Centaur the Automatons keep killing Chairon, or is he a normal Centaur? If it's a hero, then I have to collect my jaw from the floor. Back in my days, in AoM Titans, Automatons were pretty useless. Yeah, they could rebuild themselves, but slowly. Low dps and low health. I am amazed to see them to put some work past Classical Age here.

egypt has laser crocodile. i think their anubis and fire phoenix needs buffs. Mummy is decent for instant kill but that god is usually son of oaris. Spinx is good villager kill unit but not good in head-on combat. that's ok because it has fast m/s for a reason. Spin to win myth unit looks a lot stronger then original. still not great but it is alright. I think norse have biggest issue in term of myth units. 5 population fire giant is not worth it. it doesn't do enough damage. The Einherjar attack buff doesn't last long enough and the unit is terrible melee, terrible m/s.

I find it funny how all of the players see colossus and think "big boy smash" ... it's a siege myth unit, same as the scarab from egyptians. Never send it fighting other units. Big mistake seems everyone makes
