I am a huge fan of the original Warhammer Fantasy and know the Elven lore of Ulthuan like the back of my hand at this point. Even with all that I think that the mountain and cow aesthetic works wonders for the Lumineth. If you were to ask my interpretation I would say that the mountain not only represents tranquility and defense but it also represents a bedrock for a new generation to build upon. In order to truly build to new heights one must first build a strong and sturdy foundation. What better teacher then than the mountain? As for the bull symbolism; the bull is a strong animal that uses its strength and size to protect itself and those around them. They can tank hits and when push comes to shove they charge head on. Such is the way of the mountain.

Good point about mountain spirits being the best counterpoint to the pre-Reinvention culture, and therefore making sense to being brought out first. I’ve played HE since the 4th edition, and love the lore and models of the Alarith. I think for many former HE players the problem is not so much that the Alarith are bull inspired as such - but that they are not the dragons, phoenixes, lions they loved and lost. And the marketing campaign with the Pointy Elf Video and then the pretty goofy game-showy reveal didn’t help. It could be interpreted that GW was making fun of people. But now quite a lot of people seem to like the Alarith. Hopefully we’ll see the rest of the temples eventually. The Wind Spirits seem to have fox like masks.

The Alarith were the main reason I am starting a Lumineth army. So much so that it is even dictating my paint scheme. I am going with Ymetrica and staying pretty faithful to how GW painted everything. I like the Alarith because they are such a break from the generic fantasy elf cliche (mostly by treading on what are typically dwarf cliches). Additionally, I am geologist so the mountain aspect obviously is something I am very interested in. The aesthetic doesn't bother me at all. I quite like it and can hardly wait until September to finish my army.

Man, I love these aelves, my goodness... their hubris cast mostly aside to become one with the land... aelves shamans practically. All their race's obsession channeled towards not their self-satisfaction, but their home. So dope. I love AOS for its creatures heheh, I miss wolves and bears though, dracolines already have the feline aspect that I like. Stormcast have bear and lion from Azyr marking their armor sometimes, I wish I could use these awesome beasts in my army.

I’m with you. I love the ideas presented. Great mix between the Eldar and Avatar (Nickelodeon tc series) but with a solid AoS spin on it. At the same time I think GW missed a great opportunity for community input. Would’ve been great for them to explain the link like you just did and ask the community what creature would represent the element. I do think the bull was already represented in GW/Forgeworld lines so there’s a bit of a miss but the models are still amazing.

The addition of bulls to their aesthetic seems to be for the same reason that the Daughters of Khaine got snake people and the Idoneth Deepkin got soul hungry aquatic people. Bulls, serpents and fish/crustaceans are all connected to Slaanesh, and all these new aelves now.
@chaosincarnate9544 жыл бұрын

I always associated cows with stability, strength, and an earnest kind of prosperity. In the context of these elves it also feels very humbling compared to traditional lion or dragon motifs. I think the choice of mountain cow was the best they could have made given the whole Spirefall affair.
@thehillz7262 жыл бұрын
While I think it's an odd choice, I like it. It's unique as elf astetics go. But based on my experience in farming, cattle don't like mountains. If there's any greenery down hill they're more likely to go there. I feel the mountain goat or a badger / wolverine are more likely animals to find up there that exude a similar meaning. Also the chaos dwarves had there own bull theme. If they ever come back ot would be interesting to see the two factons interact

I was one of the people who really was not a fan of the bull aesthetic, but not because of the bull itself. Although now that we have the bigger picture and we know that the other elements are going to be a thing as well hopefully we'll get to see swordmasters for the wind or water elites

Great set of videos, appreciate the info. I have one question though... what would I do if I wanted my Lumineth based out of Aqshy, realm of fire? Unlike several other factions these guys seem to only be in the realm of light, unless it's the field of battle elsewhere. The Orruks travel everywhere, Fyreslayers have lodges everywhere, Idoneth have underwater cities in multiple realms, Cities of Sigmar are all over, and so on. Would it be against the lore if I made my Lumineth from Aqshy? I would love to do one of my mountain cows as a volcano
@tiyangina35713 жыл бұрын
I dont know whether this comment may come much too late but you can make a volcano mountain cow as a Hysh creature. The lore behind them states, that they are vessels for elemental spirits of mountain ranges- a volcano can be a mountain range, and there are volcanos in Hysh (the world) so its not against the lore to stay in Hysh. Specifically making an Aqshy Realmlord however might not work. Because it is specifically the realm of hysh that makes them... well... realmlords. If they started becoming one with Aqshy instead of Hysh, they would turn into hotheaded people, not the tranquil, harmony seeking aelves they are shown to be ^^

Thanks you for your video. I do think that bulls are a great representation of the quality of mountains, so yeah, they are appropriate bodies for mountain spirits. Strength and tranquility, stoicism and resilience, that works for me. However, I'm a bit disappointed with the choice of weapons for the aelves themselves. Bull with hammer? Why not. Stoneguards with hammer? No way. Crushing is not the aelvish way of punishing their opponents. I understand that they choose the hammer to go along with the mountains/bull strength theme, but they could have chosen other weapons. Living in the Alps myself and having witnessed avalanches many times, I can tell that the scars they made are more like an axe cut than a hammer impact. Then my personal opinion regarding helmets: they are horrible. I thought it was impossible to make minis look more moronic than the archers (sentinels?), but they did try and succeed with the stoneguard. There is no way they can keep their head straight with such an idiotic, high center of mass. Even if I could give a free pass to this physics non-sense, I can't swallow such an unaesthetic disproportion.
