Age of War is a Disaster - Conan Exiles (My Thoughts on the New Update)

Age of War was teased with new purge mechanics and a rebalancing of the the weapon meta. Here are some of my thoughts on Funcom's implementation of their desired changes, and their attitude towards their own community (particularly official (unmodded) players).
This is something I feel I need to express before I can continue making more Conan content, which will be mostly guide/how-to videos.

I recently dove balls deep into conan, I don't have a lot rn but 10 shalebacks and 3 thralls, I haven't played pvp yet, I play this game because I don't play minecraft anymore and ark was too complicated, but it seems conan is getting too easy, I barely ever die just my followers. But yeah its sad funcom doesn't care because this game is really fun

age of war could have multipile attack move set you learn with new bosses dg the arena. it could have 3 bosses just like arena champion which will drop treasure new weapons and key fragment that will free you from exiled land and teleport you to isle of siptah if you want

I feel like the blood crystals and vendor make the game way to easy. I love the journey system and I feel like it should be one of the best leveling methods in the game that way the player learns about the game and level up.

Vendor basically negates the whole idea of Legendaries and Black Blood tools being special "unique" items as well... you can just buy them in bulk...

The journey system has not worked for me played on 4 different servers including my own private server and single player game.

@@itskacey8444 The vendor idea was not bad per se but it was so badly implemented and the prices were so ridiculous. Getting 1000 steel bars for 5 obolus that you can get in five minutes by killing two sorcerers in a little darfari camp killed the whole crafting sytsem. Buying a Dalinsia for 50 killed all the thrall hunting process. That was just a cheap trick to ease the way to new lazy players. Now with AOW it's still worse, most of the weapons you can craft have almost the same stats, no need for star metal or obsidian, not worth it anymore.

I agree with this so much. But like others have mentioned, the dying of proper combat started with AoS, especially for PvE players. The vitality perks & grit perks make you near immortal and take away so much risk from the boss fights. I have played modded for, I want to say 8k? hours. AoS perks made it so that modded content that once was brutal is now breezy. Some modders are coming up with workarounds such as introducing lethal dots, but it isn't the same. AoW.. just a joke.

Yeah, the ability to have 3 final perks without sacrificing anything, especially with perks like Last Stand and Extended Leap, made PVP a joke.

Totally agree, every single change they made in Age Of War made the game worse. Age Of Sorcery was incredible, solved many issues and gave you a ton of new and interesting things to do. All AOW did was remove some and replace them with nothing. What were they thinking?

Age of Sorcery is what brought me, a 200+ hour player, to give the game another chance. Ended up spending almost 2k more hours of fun in the game. Age of War is like a complete reversal.

I only just started playing it after being bored of ark after getting back into that and as z pve player only it is a good game and rlly cool eith building in perticular in comparison to all these other survival games but some the bugs just such a pain like i cant use greater shaelbacks cause everytime they are invisible after quitting then going in and even started new save completely to see if it would fix it which just bit of a pain cause how good they are especially in early game

I totally agree, when i played the testlive i could not believe my eyes, every change they made was stupid and nobody asked for this. I don't play PVP but even in PVE that game has become boring and totally unbalanced. Now it's 5 times easier to kill the Red Mother than an accursed tier 4 cook, that's just idiotic !! And now we are treasure hunters collecting dishes and pots or statues, this is so... great!!! Everything has been nerfed and made so easy and even the crafting is not rewarding anymore.

At any point, you can download previous versions of the game from steam depo. If you are playing singleplayer, this may be how you find the most enjoyment, or it might not. If you are playing online then you will need to update, unless you find private servers that host older versions.

All things we have discussed personally, the game has so much potential as its unique building system and raiding really is the best out there as far as pvp survival goes. The fighting mechanics before the update were fine... i really dont understand why these muppets would change that aspect of the game, was literally the only thing in the game that wasnt broken and they broke it. Giving stupid wepon buffs was also terrible... like giving spears a cripple really was dumb... its now just a roll, spear, roll spear... broke the game for me essentially. Ive quit, I have a feeling they think Dune will save the Funcom franchise, but the truth is if its even slightly better then conan it will just put the nail in the coffin for Conan. If i was rich, id wait for the game to completely to crash in user base, buy it cheap, develope it for 2 years and re release it as a new game, it would be top 5 games in the world again. Literally minimal changes, all ideas already put forward by legacy game players. Anyways RIP Conan, was fun while it lasted

Wait for the next chapter, it should get crazy, this update is for building your treasure rooms, next chapter they will be sanding an army to try capture you gold, the attacking purge will be using trebuchet and catapults to raid your castle and treasure, rather than just sending in 5 -10 enemies, this time they will have siege weapons.

I would like to see a video of you running from zero to 60 in less then an hour.:) Anyways the problem in conan is the raidtimes and the 10 man clans.Noone (ill exclude the 0,00001%) can be home 7 days a week to defend a base 6hrs a day.And noone (by that i mean everyone) can beat a 10 man zerg.After the magic update only a pit or cave is a base worthy location.There is no hiding because they can simply fly anywhere in minutes and scout everything. Humain raid times,solo,duo,trio,... servers and PVP server wipes on a regular basis can save this game.I would also like to think that they are working on Conan Exiles 2,0 in unreal engine 5.Because at this point ,anyone who has been following the news and updates must be kinda stupid if they dont think to themselves sometimes. Why do you think that? I think current pikes would be fine with the previous stamina system. With 3rd perk Agility players are moving faster than ever before. I think having a cripple to reward hits more is a good thing... just not with infinite roll...

the game is bad on console this is a small list of things i have run in too and i have found more that is not listed from building bugs to game crashes and attributes points bugs😠😞 and as the game is now it is unplayable i spend more time finding bugs that playing. and most of this has been in since the start of AOS😞 the golden lotus near the volcano obelisk is invisible invisible elephants and calf's, tigers cub, panthers and cubs, most of the world bosses are now invisible Black Yeti, King Rhino, Rockslide, Avalanche, snake men brutes, both tamed and wild camels, yetis, elephants, greater yakkiths, rocknoses, the lion king on swagger rock, the Abysmal Remnant is invisible and all you see are its eyes now and after killing it the crafting book it guards is missing both online/offline.

At this point, I would settle for an Age of Hotfixes. Honest to God, what's the point of that treasury room if you can't even see how much you have (after you reach the bottom of the page the UI won't scale)? They completely nerfed the legendary itens on bosses. I dare you to get a Last Breath of the Red Mother now. All the servers will be deactivated before you get one drop.

I agree 100% with you. Before the Ages, I have played 1.5K hours, and was fun, was Impossible go on north at lower level without die several times, grinding was high to craft just T1 parts. I don't play on servers, I don't like PVP, but still, the game was fun, even with the limitations of the random legendary items (is really stupid leave several POI'S unused and then force us to battle 3 skull bosses over and over and also get a ton of duplicates because the codegame is so stupid to can't remember if you own something or not.) However, my simple opinion is, they want to turn off all the survival part and make it become like a MMO, I'm going to play, I become stronger in zero time, then I stay in game just to grind the BS of the BP or to buy cosmetics and give profits. Players like milk cows, basically. Also, due the fact they have moved the main team of CE into the development of Dune, it's kind of we pay for this development using BP and Baazar. Personally, when I've seen "we sell the company to Tencent and we will implement BP and Baazar", I've thinked "game over, CE will die" and all these ridiculous updates (perhaps few modified lines on tables and .ini files selled like "oh this is FUN") just confirming the sad truth. Thank you for be one of the few able to say the truth. You will not get free BP's and items from FC like some others CC in exchange of good reviews videos, but the dignity and integrity are priceless indeed.

On the pve side when I started playing Conan there was a kind of a story to it that the journey steps took you through also kind of forced you to engage in the lore. I did not that on this new system and having to switch between journey is painful it completely breaks any flow there might have been to single player

So I played everything the game offered. PVP is something i never want to return to. Its really a breeding ground for frustration and toxicity. Not interested. Find some friends and play PVE. That's the focus in the game for the longest time. It's where the money is.

This is 100% true, rn the pvp is in the worsted state i think iv ever seen it in and iv been playing since the game come out, rn iv been playing on a few servers and mist of the pvp is just trading with grate axe or spear at this time in conan anyone can be good at pvp and i someone is low hp and running blood mad they just get 2 tapped by a grate axe, and then if you are low u can also go rolling half way across the map. Edit: to add to this you can go around farming for these leggo wepons and you finaly find your self like a impaler for you to brake it in 30 mins of pvp as you cant repair it and it has 400 dura

There is nothing to talk about "meta" armors. What are you on about? All you need to use is light armor. Using anything else is trolling and puts you at disadvantage. It was always like this. Since forever light armor was always the best by far. You simply dont get enough protection from medium and heavy. You die equally fast, but you lack stamina, waste more stamina, have slower stamina regen. You only get negatives and nothing positive. Saying "you spent zero time talking about new meta builds for armor which is imo the biggest change" only tells me that you have no idea about the game and what you're talking about.

They made javelins, claws, and shortswords dated by making warhammers, spears, and maces agility with some of the existing legendaries, on top durability and stamina changes with buggy overpriced bazaar items are hurt to watch on a game I love a lot as a casual gamer myself. I talked to Eradication on how feels about the update, he said himself he never plays game beyond building stuff, and these are good changes (he is one that believes foundations are lag fess and ugly), even tho he is always in god mode with stamina cost disabled on his server showcases. doesn't help that moderators on conan exiles discord are also super zealous on who is criticizing the devs and have no hesitation in banning people who talk "bad-mouthing" the devs, by getting rid of "Whiners".

LOL, You're insane. These releases have been tested a lot. They've been tested in-house, and they've been tested on TEST LIVE! I love how you say, "everyone" and the "community" when the only place you hear any complaints is on the forums, or a video like this. Yet the servers (at least the ones I play on) are full every raid time. "Infinite roll?" I know I certainly can't do that, so it's clearly a build set up. So, that's a personal choice.
