Today on Beauty Beyond 40, a discussion about the Age R device from Korean company, Medicube. This device is marketed as an FDA-cleared microcurrent device when it is in fact only FDA registered and an EMS device. Do you agree with the points I made in this video? As I mentioned in the video, I'm not a doctor, nor a dermatologist, nor an esthetician, so I welcome feedback on the points I've covered in this video.

I live here in South Korea and this device is like a staple product here. Clinics use them when you go get 5 star facial and face care and results are phenomenal. Use it as it’s intended for. As for the teeth sensation, it’s not dangerous. All doctors, nurses and estheticians have different POVs. I will say the Korean beauty is #1 for a reason and I’ve seen 50 year old women NO JOKE look 20. They’re on point. That being said, you have the same doctors say fillers and Botox are good, now they’re saying it’s aging you more.

It is now called the EMS shot. I love it. This video gave me palpitations so I could not finish it. I was curious to see what she had to say since it popped up on my recommended. I felt like she was just venting so I went to the comment section instead😅. Personally, I read up on ems before buying it and read up on microcurrent before buying the nuface a couple of years ago. The nuface did nothing. The Medicube has lifted my jowls after 3 months of use. So having read the pros and cons of both modalities and making an informed decision to buy the EMS, I’m happy with my decision and my results.

Thank you for being so open and honest, Trina. I trust your opinion on beauty products because I see that you consistently isolate the use of devices before giving your opinion on them. It's very scary that people could be using products with misinformation and possibly permanently damage their skin and/or muscles. Thank you for first vetting any product you make videos about. ❤

They are both electrocurrent devices, EMS is just stronger than micro current. I read it is best to use EMS on larger parts of the body and when it comes to the face, in the lower areas like the jaw, where there is firmer skin. It is intended to firm the body and jaw.It is used for muscle atrophy around the jaw area. Micro current is better for areas of the face that have thinner skin, like around the eyes, it would be bad to use something stronger here..both of these devices are electo current, one is just stronger then the other and hits deeper muscles, both have specific regions they should be used on.

I am 54 years old and I have been using the Tua Trend EMS device for 11 years now. I used my instinct when I started using it. I have been lifting weights since I was 26- six days a week so EMS seem to fit the bill for me. It made since. If I am working my body muscles six days a week - why not work my face muscles. I also have an identical twin sister who does not use the device. My face looks younger than hers - I had not heard the info on ATP regarding the EMS treatments. I am sure there is validity to that - I am not sure what to think about any of this now.. I have had better results with ems than micro current. My last caveat is that when I use my ems device - I do it quickly- literally go over each area quickly and I only do a couple times a week or when I am going out - I use it in place of makeup. - I guess I would have to show pics to make my point. And I have tried tons of devices as well. I would say my ems device and my joovv machine have been the best for me. I only wear eye makeup now. I guess I could go on on or make a video and start reviewing products. But I am modest and don't want my face out on the internet. BTW I do love you reviews!!

Hi, I'm a licensed Esthetician and Instructor. I agree with what your saying 100% about not using it on the throat, especially on the tyroid and chest, really dangerous and unhealthy. Also the woman on the video you posted has no idea how to use the device, and is clearly giving ppl bad advice. You can tell that is not LED light therapy #1 LED doesn't emit light like that or looks like that. #2 if it was LED it would have a separate button/mode for it. I'm happy that you confirmed that with the company. It could be a language barrier on the whole marketing but it could also be just a marketing tactic 🤷‍♀️. But whichever it is they should correct it. I'm really tempted in purchasing but don't want to feel like I threw my money away if it's not what I expected. Thank u for this video

@@horriblekitty13 while that’s a common thing I hear online as well, there’s just no evidence to support that. You’re totally welcome to do it with another tool or device if you prefer that but it would actually be counter productive for microcurrent specifically as it’s all about the placement of each muscle. Not all your muscles are placed vertically and if you look at microcurrent pioneer Dr Wing’s original work, it’s actually about the original and insertion of the muscle and where they connect to the tendon.

Where is the integrity? Influencers owe this to their followers, not just their opinions especially when those opinions are only their own projections! You can't just say you are an esthetician (which causes a follower to believe there is truth and experience behind their comments) and then just say anything you want without backing the information with facts. Thank you Trina for including integrity in your content and pointing these things out! I will now be more cautious about who I am listening to . Facts are what we all are looking for, instead we often believe content that we should be questioning from these influencers. BTW, I am totally ok with you receiving compensation for your hard work. Thank you.

I am so glad I had found and clicked on your video. I had bought this months ago and had not used it yet because the gel it came along with had irritated my skin. I’ve finally been looking into finding an alternative and doing research. So I went back to the website in order to remember what type of modality it is, just in case the type of gel would work based on that. Only to see it no longer said anything about micro current modalities as it did before. Then I found your video after watching so many, now realizing why it now said EMF. I watch Cassandra on the regular and naively decided to ignore her occasional skincare bias, hypocrisy, contradictory statements, and shame/scare tactics which were honestly huge red flags. However, watching you explain and point things out made me see how detrimental that can actually be. Especially when I’ve now realized how much I’ve been ignorantly influenced (thinking I wasn’t easily so) not only by her but other skin "experts" here on KZbin. Thank you.

What made md read the comments on Cassandras video, which then led me here, was my confusion of her contradiction. She did a micro current video in the past that properly showed how to use it, what microcurrent is, that you should NEVER feel it and how it shouldn't be used on the front of your neck due to thyroid. Then she did this new one and her technique and language changed. It feels scammy and I was very happy to see your post. I'm going to sub.

I'm one of the people that feels fleeced by Cassandra's promotion. I now have a $180 device I can't use. I'm really disappointed in Cassandra with her misinformation or misunderstanding of this device. I'm also not thrilled with the rest of the Medicube skincare, or their sister company Aprilskin, but that's another rant. These companies overhype their products. I saw Cassandra’s video before watching this and I had issues with the same things you talked about. However, I own this device and to me it feels like EMS with microcurrent especially on my forehead, I feel the same tingling that I feel when I use the Bear on my forehead. So I just assumed that it had both modalities and that’s why Cassandra was calling it microcurrent. I bought it because Darcy from a Brazilian Girl channel recommended it for the jaw line. She said it was the best thing she had ever tried on her jaw line.

I notice micro current being used for ems by many Asian companies and hi frequency as RF as well and I do believe that it’s a translation issue. I would trust euro standards long before FDA having been in pharmaceutical research for 20+ years. FDA cleared really doesn’t mean what many ppl think it does. FDA approved is wildly different from cleared. Regarding EMS and this device in particular. I am 55, very fair skinned and was teased horribly about being pale so I shunned sunscreen and lived in tanning beds. I grew up rather poor. Had no knowledge of skin care. My mom got the pink oil of Olay lotion for Christmas every year as it was a luxury item at $5 a bottle. I washed my face with dial soap and (not joking about this) bought my first skin care at age 32! I have a lot of premature aging also because of post menopausal and can’t take estrogen replacement. For my skin, the level of damage and sag and wrinkles etc, this device is amazing. I added it after I had already started myolift and tripolar and led therapy and I’ve never not been happy about it. When I use it right after I do my tripolar and I find that to be a fantastic results night. That said, if you have relatively firm skin already I don’t know if this tool will show you much. Most of there before and afters are on pretty heavy jowls and heavy sagging and double chins and the like. Yes it hurts my teeth but as the old adage goes, pride hath no pain. I do think it’s a great device for some people. I don’t use it every day because it will deplete atp and I do micro current between uses to continue to produce atp. I honestly think any of these devices require users to research and understand methods of action and am extremely grateful for all the info you provide. Agree that tutorial is filled with disinformation and should not even exist. Just a note on led light therapy. It’s not the size of the light but the frequency and irradiance of the light that determines effectiveness. The issue with the light on devices like this is time of exposure. Not saying there can’t be some benefit but exposure time will never equal a mask or panel. Thanks for all you do to inform us!

I’ve never been able to get into Cassandra. She uses her esthetician license to imply she’s an expert and speaks like she’s an authority… but her videos are full of inaccuracies. It’s okay to have an opinion, to not be an expert, or like something that’s not fully proven yet. What rubs me the wrong way is when you make statements of fact, scientific words, and act like you’re an expert but actually have no clue what you’re talking about. I enjoy her lives actually and when she’s just being herself but Cassandra’s YT videos are just not for me. Yes she ignores you when you point out her inaccurate statements also, she claims kylieskin copied supergoops sunscreen formula yet murad was the first out to market with that unseen sunscreen type gel. Murad also don't own that formula by the looks of it, it must be a contract manufacturer because there are many many brands that have the same vehicle. Yet when you point this out she ignores the point and continues to state it in videos when she's talking about them. Also as you say her videos are just basically all sponsored content now which isn't a problem but the sheer volume is overwhelming. Also she hates microneedling which we love so that's a shame lol

No need to get offended by that comment. Bias is often there whether you know it or not. You can’t just say, “You can trust a sponsored video that I make” and leave it at that. Nobody’s saying you don’t deserve to get paid for sponsorships, but there’s a reason many of us don’t trust sponsored videos nearly as much as videos made by those who are unaffiliated with the brand and spent their own money on the product.

Fine but often times I purchase a product with my own money and then the brand asks to sponsor a video later on. You cannot assume that just because a video is sponsored, the product is gifted. Creators like me need to earn a living just like everyone else and I am very careful to disclose all my sponsorship details per FTC requirements to maintain authenticity. @@beautybeyond40 I agree that KZbinrs who have earned larger platforms deserve to be paid for the work they’re putting in. Personally I did some research about what the device really is as I have a microcurrent device and wanted something to pair with it. I definately feel it works, especially if your problem is not using your facial muscles enough (you're stoic), if you're look to relax your face to relax muscle that cause fine lines, to drain fluid from the face, and improve skin quality and absorption of product. I haven't used it enough to see collagen and elastin improvement but i'm also 36 yrs old and already have amazing skin--I have a main concern of facial tension causing migraines and fine lines, as well as facial puffiness dragging my face down. But I agree that I find their wording could be more clear. It's likely they are in the lengthy process of getting it approved but as with anything the paperwork takes a while so they want ot sell more, now, rather than be honest and say we are waiting on our approval for FDA regulation. I do want to throw out there that just because something is FDA regulated doesn't mean it's good for you. Think of all the preservatives in our food that are FDA regulated, all of the medications we take that could potentially kill us due to horrific side effects. I think it's more important to have validation that their device does what it says, so you understand the science and YOUR risks so you can make an informed decision. What bothers me is the no return policy on open items. Even s3x toy shops have return policies. They do invite you to leave reviews openly and I will leave one once I've used this for a good six months. Overall I do agree with your points because it is a safety hazard if you cannot use a microcurrent or EMS device and they are not marketing it in clear language and the person you're referencing should have her video edited because of miss information.

I see on the global website on the product listing multiple times that it mentions this is an EMS device…I’m not sure if they had changed it since this video was made, but if the listing hasn’t changed since this video was made, it’s confusing me when I don’t see it being advertised as a micro current device. 🧐 I don’t know who Cassandra is, but it’s always better for people to research products in depth instead of taking the words of one person as the sole truth... I can understand the other frustrations mentioned though

Trina, such a good video. This is truly unbelievable, the company and Cassandra's video. I'm really shocked as she says she is an esthetician. How would she not know this? I agree with you about Face Yoga as well. I'm glad you are getting this information out. ❤️🙏 There is a huge question with many viewers regarding the difference between EMS and Microcurrent and which is better. Many think because EMS stimulates the muscle therefore it is better, however EMS, from my understanding was developed for muscle stimulation in the arms and legs for muscle recovery and worked well on larger muscle groups. The face muscles are much smaller and using EMS on the face can overstimulate the muscle causing ATP to deplete. I don't personally recommend it on the face unless a person has advanced signs of aging in the lower part of the face. I've had women say that it has helped sagging jowls. But again I'd be careful. My own thoughts and am not an expert just another skincare junkie! ❤️🙏

I can only talk about the company but the company does say EMS, it just was missed. I have this product. It says on the front page of the instructions of the lower left Derma EMS Shot and the medicube site has in the product description. "How does facial EMS work?" Among various methods of treatment using electrical current (Galvanic current, Microcurrent, and EMS - all commonly often referred to as microcurrent), EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) utilizes electrical currents of reverse polarity to stimulate inner muscles and help them relax & contract."

I do not believe it is a language better. I believe it is a very intentional marketing scam. Also, I had seen Cassandra's video and was very disappointed in how she heavily talked down on facial yoga (by using random scams as an example?!) and making the Age R device sound amazing when all it does is twitch your muscles which doesn't seem too different from "facial massaging" which, like you said, she makes fun of.

Oh my Gosh, its super odd that brands allow random youtubers like Cassandra to give us a anti-science lesson, and honestly weird that KZbin allows it. I had an art video taken down, for no reason, that was not harmful to anyone. Btw back in the day, I watched everyone on youtube use crystal creams with at home skin polishing tools, (like clarisonic) and what happened to me is I got a deep skin infection on one of my cheeks, that left me with huge permanent scars. I have never had a big acne problem, and if I had never used these horrible polishing tools that were recommended by youtubers I never would have gotten huge holes in my skin. I also had to do fraxel laser on the scars and even that did not help. About the electrical pulses and actual muscle twitching above the heart and thyroid omg, again I do not understand how misinformation like this is allowed to spread. Nipples and different political opinions get banned but sure lets actually put people in danger...

Yes, thank you! I've been putting in DAYS of research to understand all the different devices available and what they do. The thing I've had the worst time with is finding out about EMS vs microcurrent. I get the difference, but it's impossible to research all these devices when they use microcurrent as a blanket term for both kinds. I even tried to look up specific current amounts, like is microcurrent up to a certain strength and then its considered EMS...It's been a nightmare, I'm exhausted. Thank you for your help, your videos are VERY helpful. I trust you know what you're talking about and that you're thorough, and I appreciate you so much. Considering she’s an actual esthetician I often expect more substance from her and not basic goofs like the stuff you point out. Hi. Thank you so much for your comments regarding our Age-R Device. We have thoroughly reviewed your concerns amongst our relevant team and would like to share the following updates with you. First, it is true that we have used the term "FDA-cleared" to describe our product certification. However, we acknowledge the fact that the term could cause confusions among our customers. We apologize for your inconvenience and will henceforth readdress the term as "FDA-registered" Second, we would like to clarify our method of classification for the Age-R as a "microcurrent" device. "Microcurrent" is a generic term that collectively refers to a wide range of care methods that utilize low-intensity currents, including Galvanic currents, iontoporesis, and EMS. Most devices in the market operate as a single polarity method that allows either Anode(+) or Cathode(-) to flow, which in themselves are also commonly referred to as "microcurrent". Meanwhile, EMS (such as our Age-R Device) uses bipolarity where two polarities alternatively cross and are transferred to induce direct muscle tremors. In other words, EMS can be categorized as a type of microcurrent which utilizes bipolar currents to stimulate muscles. Hence, technically, the method of EMS and microcurrents cannot be divided distinctively into two different things. The expression "microcurrent" is also often used to refer to low-amplitude current muscle stimulation in several thesis, which indicates that microcurrent and EMS are not necessarily two different principles. Therefore we have been using the term microcurrent to utilize a more easily-recognized keyword to help our consumers easily understand its basic concept. Thank you so much again for your comments and we will appreciate any precious feedback from you. medicube_official

All of the various types of electrical currents you described can't just be all called microcurrent. They aren't even all called microcurrent in a medical or aesthetic clinical setting. They all do different things. If you go to a pain management or aesthetic clinic and just ask for microcurrent they are going to know that you don't know what you are talking about. Ems, tens, stim, galvanic, faradic, ultrasonic, etc all do different things and have different purposes. You also don't address the fact that you are misleading in your marketing. I wish you would have just said EMS in your marketing and I would have known this is a device I can't use and not waste money on it. I now have a $200 device I can't use because it's painful, a device that I bought under the presumption that it was microcurrent like a Nuface type of device .

@@horriblekitty13 Hi! Thank you so much for your comment. We would like to kindly reassure you that we are in full awareness of a variety of treatments utilizing micro electrical currents such as TENS, Galvanic, Ultrasonic, etc. We are also aware that methods of electrical stimulation on muscles can be categorized into TENS, MENS, FES, etc. depending on its purpose, such as beauty or medical usage. As a matter of fact, a number of products in the market utilizing electrical stimulation either refer to themselves or are currently referred to as "microcurrent". In such cases, phrases such as 'microcurrent facials', 'microcurrent toning' or 'microcurrent therapy' are commonly used to describe the products. The word "microcurrent" is even used in academic sources to refer to such methods. Our Age-R uses the same principle (of muscular stimulation using micro currents), in fact with an optimal level of electrical currents to increase stimulation. Of course, the level of stimulation sensed by each individual may differ. However, as our multiple safety certifications indicate, it does not mean that the product is problematic or harmful. Thank you!
