One of my favorite eps. Finally getting May's backstory and why she hates the nickname "the Cavalry." And so many things from season 1 make more sense . Ep 1x9 "Repairs" Coulson talks about how May changed after Bahrain and he tells Skye that he doesn't know what happened - just that she lost herself. You gather he thinks May just blames herself for the girl's death amidst the powered person and the criminals working for her. Same ep May tells Tobias he has to "let the girl go" and not hold on to the person he was. There's a line in 1x15 "Yes, Men" where May says they'll need the new icer weapons Fitz has created because it's hard to tell friend from foe when dealing with powered people. The way the Skye/Jiaying story ties into May's Bahrain story is awesome. And the cherry on top - Raina was obsessed with meeting the Clairvoyant in season 1 - and now SHE is a clairvoyant!

Also, you can see why she really tried to protect Skye when she first got her powers "you will control it, just focus" and almost becomes her second mom. It's like a chance for her to right the wrong. Also, remember she wanted to have a kid. And seeing her arc as being really untrusting of Skye in the beginning into this is just amazing.

Also, May saying, “I can fix the problem” is another callback to ep 1x9 “Repairs” where we hear a little bit about May and Bahrain.

Gary Au As I recall, Coulson first tells Skye a little bit of the Bahrain story. He just says that May said she could “fix the problem” back in Bahrain, she went in and crossed out the enemy threat, but came out a different person. I believe May says the words when May has pulled Hannah out of the safe room and off the plane, and Hannah is wondering what they’re doing. (May knows the ghost is connected to Hannah, so May takes Hannah away from the plane and her team.

There was also a really nice callback to an earlier episode involving the girl who thought she was possessed by a demon of sorts, but it was actually a guy stuck between two worlds who was trying to protect her by killing everyone else who upset her. May tells the guy to "let the girl go" and when Coulson asks her what she said, May says she told the ghost what Coulson told her in Bahrain. An AWESOME full circle right there. Regarding where in the MCU timeline this is, yup, this is before, but getting close to the Age of Ultron. You'll see why soon enough, although the connection is established by just one small scene. Love the reactions and keep 'em coming guys. Imma say it again - if you think it's awesome, wait till you get past season 2.

“Let the girl go” was a line May used in 1x09. It was the shows first May-centric episode. Also, what you said about the fight over powered people being like Civil War, I think if Ultrons plan over humanity needing to evolve was to unveil the Inhumans, like in a terrigen bomb instead of dropping Sokovia, it would’ve been great to have had the Civil War be over protecting or locking up Inhumans instead. Like if the real SHIELD turned out to be funded by Stark after Hill convinced him to start again since she went to go work for him in Winter Soldier. She even sold out the SHIELD base to Talbot in S1 in order to cover up some secrets. Imagine her being jealous that Fury gave it all to Coulson so it’d be SHIELD vs Hill on the show and the Avengers vs. Stark in Civil War. I’ve said this a lot over the years, I should get over it but every time I remember I wish it happened, lol. It would’ve been larger in scale and would’ve allowed more of the heroes to have had opposing opinions behind their fighting as opposed to fighting because Cap wanted to protect his buddy. So that's how Melinda got her nickname. It does explain why she so depressed. She's obviously not proud of it after what she had to do. All due respect Rana, Coulson keeping secrets from his own team isn't wise. It shows a lack of trust between him and his agents by withholding information from them.

Some may argue that secrets keep important information from getting out. It also prevents espionage attempts and workers safe as kidnappers would assume you truly don't know anything and perhaps leave them alone. but like you said, it causes a disconnect within employees and Hydra took advantage of that. A guy gets caught talking to Hydra, all he has to say is it's classified and they'll likely leave him alone 😄 There really is no right system, every situation's different.

The whole naming people with both names starting with the same letter was a Stan Lee quirk. He did it on a whim and it became a running gag. But as for your Grant Guston example???? That one doesn't apply because BA - Barry Allen IS DC Comics and A.o.S. is Marvel Comics.. There are actually very few Characters in DC with the same letter for both names. I can't even think of ONE right now.
