If you don't even have time or will to teach a dog basic toilet rules, don't get a dog. If this basic things prove to be such a hassle, having a dog for its entire life isn't something you will be able to provide. I suggest rehoming 100%, the dog deserves it.

Right? My aunt passed away and I wanted to take in her dog, but her son said no that he’s going to keep him. I get he doesn’t want to get rid of him because it was his mom’s, but the dog was matted, stinky, and the nails were horrible long. My sister and I bathed him and cut the matting off and did the best to even the hair out the best we could with the little scissors I found in the house. My mom even asked if she could have the dog and he said no. My mom even went and bought him food because it had ran out. So if he’s barely home, and not giving him the attention, why not rehome him. I took my dog to work since she was a puppy which helped me potty train her real fast, so I was willing to do the same with him. I hope he changes his mind and lets me have him. He’s a very sweet and friendly dog, he just needs a bit of help with potty training and the fact that he’s a runner as soon as the door opens, but I’m willing to work in that.

No way they will have the time for shelby with a new baby in the house alongside the other very young children, and I imagine the older kids will have to do a lot of babysitting for the siblings which can damage their relationships to their parents.

But if it still got hold of a diffetent child after being adopted, you (the shelter) can be made liable, huge problem. (haven't watched the episode yet) but i would think the mum having Shelby on her lap as she gets aggressive/protective would just be fueling this behavior - if my dog acted this way he would be straight on the floor

Shelby looks just like my dog! He's 9 years old. Great with the older adults that I do hospice respite with. Not great with little kids who want to treat him like a stuffed teddy bear. He came to my home because, after living with a teenager & his parents, he couldn't handle it when Grandma was babysitting the little ones.

He also continues trying to touch and pet Shelby when the dog's freezing, staring, growling. Hopefully the family got some education about dog body language as well, so they could learn to listen to Shelby's warnings as well as change the behaviours.

We used to have a mini poodle (purebred) that had aggressive tendencies like this and was very protective over my mom
@libertybell8852 Жыл бұрын
My step-dad had a blue heeler that was the same way. He had cancer (my dad) and I know the dog could sense it. He was protecting him. When he died that poor dog was LOST. My husband had to put on my step-dad coat, go outside, get him and feed him and love on him. Once we did that one time and brought him to investigate he was OK. Still sad and he grieved, but he calmed down and attached to my mom. Thank goodness. Now he's a very good, working boy.

She's encouraging her dog to attack her husband. How does she not see it. With the kids it's more bratty over excitment gone wrong. The adults have zero structure in their home kids or dog wise. How do they plan to have another kid
@ALinn-vr3nl2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I love the kid standing on the kitchen table in her shoes, and another one sitting on the kitchen counter. That would have been unthinkable in my mom's house.
@lenahali5444 Жыл бұрын
I feel bad for them they got a pup thought it would miraculously just train itself? So glad they got help. Now this is exactly how you train a dog. Wasn’t the dogs fault. At all. How graceful is this trainer. The calmness. The potty training, the treats to let him sit on the sofa to relax. Now it’s time to train the kids to not be lunatics 🤣🤣🤣🤣 kids are high stress and it truly is a loud chaotic house. The dog needed an escape crate area. It’s removed but not isolated. What a great trainer. Everyone owning a pet for the first time needs to watch training videos. 99% of the time it’s the owners fault on what’s going on
@smash42362 жыл бұрын
My dogs know when they did something wrong, and they know they will go to their crate after for a small amount of time. No different than a kid going to their room fora timeout. They still love their crates and go in voluntarily to rest without my guidance throughout the days! So this is a big misconception, in my opinion.
@m66662 жыл бұрын
Yes, but there's a very fine line with doing that. Your dogs may do that and be fine with it, but if I did that to my boy, he wouldn't go back in voluntarily. He loves his crate and goes into it when he sees me getting ready to go out (generally the only time I use it now), but he's a very sensitive boy and if I told him off and then put him in his crate, he'd no longer go in voluntarily. I've only ever used the crate as a good safe place for my dogs, which is what they were intended for, and Victoria says the same.
@smash42362 жыл бұрын
If it is something to do with fear and less to do with overstimulation and impulse control, this may not be the right approach (using a crate for a timeout). Especially if they are already more anxious/ stressed in their crate.

With all these young children, what made them think a dog would be a good idea. I don't even think another child is a good idea. Too busy, too hectic & stressful...😕 Well, in this case it, at least, looks like a good ending. Hope it stays that way, mostly for the dog...😏

People are sick. Too many kids. How about take care of what you have and if you want an animal take care of and have time. Don’t expect to have a good mannered dog when you have that am at kids. Ans want more. I have none and probably can’t now. That is overboard. Give the dog time and attention if you wanted him. Take care of the kids you do have. You have more than enough
