For real, I’ve seen one too many families looking for high energy breeds at the shelter or with breeders to “keep up with the kids”. You will never tire a high energy dog in the same way a child tires out, you’re just going to have a dog that’s bored (i.e destructive) and anxious.

If you don't even have time or will to teach a dog basic toilet rules, don't get a dog. If this basic things prove to be such a hassle, having a dog for its entire life isn't something you will be able to provide. I suggest rehoming 100%, the dog deserves it.

I’m not sure they put enough time in for the kids and that’s not to say they are bad parents but when you add a dog to the mix you have to teach not just the dog but teach the kids how to be around the dog.all I saw was total wildness. Right? My aunt passed away and I wanted to take in her dog, but her son said no that he’s going to keep him. I get he doesn’t want to get rid of him because it was his mom’s, but the dog was matted, stinky, and the nails were horrible long. My sister and I bathed him and cut the matting off and did the best to even the hair out the best we could with the little scissors I found in the house. My mom even asked if she could have the dog and he said no. My mom even went and bought him food because it had ran out. So if he’s barely home, and not giving him the attention, why not rehome him. I took my dog to work since she was a puppy which helped me potty train her real fast, so I was willing to do the same with him. I hope he changes his mind and lets me have him. He’s a very sweet and friendly dog, he just needs a bit of help with potty training and the fact that he’s a runner as soon as the door opens, but I’m willing to work in that.

I don't think those parents realize just how costly, both in time and money a new baby will be for them, especially as shelby becomes an adolescent and dogs don't really become fully grown before they're 1 year old & 7 months - 2 years old. No way they will have the time for shelby with a new baby in the house alongside the other very young children, and I imagine the older kids will have to do a lot of babysitting for the siblings which can damage their relationships to their parents.

Imagine having two lol I have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. The 4 year old is well-behaved and obedient due to basic training, setting boundaries, routine, etc. It helps to have knowledge about poodles and cocker spaniel regarding their temperament and unique personality. One thing I learned about Cockapoos is that they are definitely food and treats driven so it’s easy to train them with treats

Shelby looks just like my dog! He's 9 years old. Great with the older adults that I do hospice respite with. Not great with little kids who want to treat him like a stuffed teddy bear. He came to my home because, after living with a teenager & his parents, he couldn't handle it when Grandma was babysitting the little ones.

We have 5 kids and a Saint Bernard puppy, it’s a lot of work but we knew what we were getting ourselves into and made an informed decision. She is well trained and a delight to have as a member of our family. Dogs are really healthy for kids, even when there’s 5 of them, you just have to put in the work to train them. But can't any dog can bite if they're not listened to? They don't listen when hes telling them to: not take his bone, not touch his mom when hes there, and not pet him when he is telling them he doesn't want it... the only problem with rehoming him would be to find a person who would listen to him. Don't think he had a tough background, i think he just doesn't feel comfortable or relaxed in this home, with the need to guard his things all the time ?
@denisesander7728

@@zoeyruas1333 I'm in welfare. The problem with a dog with a bite history, for whatever reason, is that they're more likely to bite again. It does depend on the dog though. If the dog, for example, bit a screaming child, you could possibly rehome it to a house without children. But if it still got hold of a diffetent child after being adopted, you (the shelter) can be made liable, huge problem. Some dogs cam be rehabilitated and trained, but it's not fair to the new owners or the dog when people just rehome a dog with a bite history. Give the problem to someone else

My step-dad had a blue heeler that was the same way. He had cancer (my dad) and I know the dog could sense it. He was protecting him. When he died that poor dog was LOST. My husband had to put on my step-dad coat, go outside, get him and feed him and love on him. Once we did that one time and brought him to investigate he was OK. Still sad and he grieved, but he calmed down and attached to my mom. Thank goodness. Now he's a very good, working boy.

People are sick. Too many kids. How about take care of what you have and if you want an animal take care of and have time. Don’t expect to have a good mannered dog when you have that am at kids. Ans want more. I have none and probably can’t now. That is overboard. Give the dog time and attention if you wanted him. Take care of the kids you do have. You have more than enough

Toileting 7-8 times a day in the house?? Excuse me but why is this animal not getting access to outside? WHY do people think keeping their animal inside all day is “spoiling” and “loving”. It’s cruel. Your animal, just like your kids & yourself, deserve to have access to fresh air, wind, sun, rain, grass and nature. In Australia most dogs are outside all day. Unless of course the weather doesn’t permit.
