Some time ago i delved into Qore's numbers. The carriers to the top of the chart were cryes, HS and so on, and those had their weights and prices measured favorably, while the ones from "less mainstream brands" like agilite were measured in the worse case scenario. For example, they counted the padding on the agilite k0 as a negative against Cryes, but then said that the lack of padding on the straps of the cryes could be supplemented with padding from this or that company. The price for the cryes didnt include these paddings. As for weight, the agilite was measured something like 20% over declared weight and some 15% over customer review weight, while the cryes were reportes as considerably under the weight customers reported for the same set up, which greatly tipped the ranking in favor of Cyes and such. They tested heat transfer but didnt consider airflow or actual comfort. Maybe the carrier has a harder time dissipating heat from one side to another, but maybe the padding and airflow can compensate. Their reply was that they could 'weight them on a live" but if they doctored the results they could easily have a modified jpc (straps cut or something) to reduce weight or modify the scales. The fact is that the numbers they reported where considerably off (several ounces in most cases) from the results from common people just weighing their shit. Customer weigh ins were often +-5% and often were no more than maybe half an ounce in difference. But the Qore numbers were 1 and even 3 ounces of difference. (In a plate carrier thats massive) and in under weighting 3oz for the crye, over weighting 3oz on the agilite turns the reported best case scenario for both from a maybe 4oz difference into a 10oz difference.
@ThinLineDefenseCo2 ай бұрын
Well that's even more interesting haha and yea they measure heat transmission as a bad thing but it's cold where I'm at.... I want heat to be retained. So the padding is a double win for me It's all very weird and the fact that their carrier wins every test is.... well.... a little silly

I skipped the K0 in favor of the Qore PC. Well, after running a 40 hour milsim event, I can say with confidence that it cannot bear weight. I got mine 3 years ago, go out to train usually 2x a month and broke recently only when doing some larping i snagged the cable and ripped it off the headset. Ok... SO, I need help. Here's my scenario, I work fulltime for the DTF, and spent a lot of time with the Fugitive TF, and TFO for a couple 3 letter agencies, so I spend a ton of time under armor. I'm now in serious need of a new plate carrier, and there's no superstore where you can go try all this on. I'm looking for the most comfortable carrier I can buy, not a tacticool load out monster, just comfortable, with a reasonably slick set up. I also run a battle belt, so I generally just run 3/4 mags on a placard, a small admin pouch, comms, extra flashlight, small pry tool, small dangler (situationally dependent), extra tourniquet, some misc. shit on front, then a bladder (just used for the FML long days) and a medical dangler on the back). Suggestions please? My current front runners are the Crye SPC, DM MEPC, Agilite K-zero/ Sub zero, Javlin A-jac, the Lionheart Hot Pursuit, or maybe a Shaw ARC 2 (that's going to be tough to swallow). Also, the structural cumberbunds... do they not pinch/rub when you're sitting in a vehicle/ bending/ twisting, etc? Been watching the hell out of all your reviews since my carrier got prematurely retired, but at this point, my brain is bleeding, and I'm just confused, lol.

100% agree on the lack of the standard 4x2 molle/velcro chest space and lack of back c-bund flap. WHY companies making 'slick/scalable' carriers keep whiffing on these two design features (and a couple others)...is a real mystery. Which brings me to a moment of 'real talk' - with everyone on the planet kvetching over the AC 1.5 price, the lack of back flap means the 'better price' of this Sub-Zero carrier is technically only $20 off. Because now I have to shell out ANOTHER $40 for the stupid placard just so I can have a rear cummerbund back flap that this carrier should have integrally possessed as part of the design process all along. When there are other carriers on the market that have fixed this annoyingly persistent issue, either via such a simple flap, OR entire rear plate bag design (for example, the Beez Aptum or Tracer Tactical TOW, and several others), I find it inexcusable a brand new carrier has been designed without this, and yet they want to say how they've "perfected" the slick carrier design. Nah... lol Straight shoulder straps have always sucked buttocks though... (yet the LV119 did this before the AC1 and nobody complained...), so it is good to see another company embracing the fact that humans are not Spongebob. lol
@backwoodsbeagle2 ай бұрын
It's all just a matter of what features you can fit in the budget. Not everyone needs or wants a built in back flap, so we prioritised other features that we determined to bring more value to a wider range of end users, like the one size fits most cummerbund adjustment system or the molle on the cummerbund. You can't win em all
@TheEightiethTarget2 ай бұрын
A fair point. And I don't mean to say what was done is 'wrong'. But from that exact POV, perhaps it would have made more sense to say " a fresh take on proven concepts" less "ultimate" and "game changing". I get marketing is important, and everyone wants to promote their product as the next greatest thing since staples so people will buy it, but... I still see another "enhanced Slickster". I'm sure this PC will sell well with people who want that. But IMO, I just don't see the "Final Form" carrier design I would attribute an 'ultimate slick PC' label to. I think the Ukraine conflict is a different mission set that prepared citizen cells. The DM APOC is better suited there as it is a hybrid style of soft and hard armor. Meeting that need for fragmentation and hard armor protection
@drkongo21392 ай бұрын
Coverage is the most important thing, and just covering the sides isn't really enough. A smart thing to do is add modules like the groin protector and neck protector. Neck protector needs to have no gaps with the front plate and not affect mobility. A good inexpensive option for the plate carrier would be the Warrior assault systems DCS. It's quite comfortable and the cummerbund is rigid due to the plastic insert (in comparison to the expensive Tegris gimmicks on the market). Plate carriers like the CPC/AVS would be best due to load-bearing capacity. Apart from that, there is little good on the US/Western market. Many Ukrainian and Russian plate carriers are superior and cheaper.

That would be better suited for the APOC, IOTV(or whatever the new one is) or other hybrids like those offered by velocity systems and countless other companies

@@mattquist5696 Yeah I really liked my Point Blank OTV. Also live in CA so more than likely to encounter a pistol than a rifle. This kinda goes hand in hand with most shooting fatalities in the US are from a handgun than a rifle. Easier to go covert with soft armor as well. Maybe it is a different philosophy, but I subscribe to cover is better than any armor and would rather be quick to get to cover than hoping to face the shooter with a plate. Thanks for the discussion all!

I don't know what that would entail and what their exact loadout and SOPs would be so probably not. I just don't have the knowledge to do that video correctly. Dirty civilian is bankrolled like no other hahaha they can probably do it.

carbon fiber? it's called Tegris and it's actually been replaced by Curv because it doesn't break like Tegris does. so yes... Ferro has some cool stuff that people stopped using. It's a great great carrier for Instagram real use? not so much edit: it's 1000d cordura.... if you want to edit the post to be correct. But that's not actually anything different than what anyone else uses

calling the qore performance videos heavily biased is definitely not cool. those are all tested the same way and they provide the empirical data from the tests.
@ThinLineDefenseCo2 ай бұрын
they do a test that they always win.... totally unbiased It would be like agilite doing a test of features only agilite has.... They don't do that though... because it would be silly
@Bdubs-ns7nn2 ай бұрын
@ThinLineDefenseCo it would be weird if they didn't show exactly how they test these things and where the results come from. But putting everything on equal footing and showing you the results is not what i would call biased. How else would you test these things? Besides wearing them for months and abusing them the whole time
@ThinLineDefenseCo2 ай бұрын
It's not how it's tested.... it's what they're testing. It's like building a car with pontoons and testing how other cars do on water.... oh weird... they all do poorly but the test is stupid because you wouldn't want to drive on water in the first place... even if it's conducted correctly making specifically designed that you win..... is obnoxious

@ThinLineDefenseCo i mean testing for weight and heat retention is pretty important when talking about gear and yes they made their product specifically with weight and heat transference in mind but their videos are more than just reviews. They're overviews showing how each carrier stacks up in those regards, and how to integrate their cooling infrastructure on popular brands regardless of whether you buy their ultralight carrier or not

The shill is hard 😂
@ThinLineDefenseCo2 ай бұрын
The notion that liking an object, product, or concept automatically makes someone a "shill" is a misunderstanding of both individual preference and the nature of advocacy or promotion. Let’s dissect this idea comprehensively, addressing the difference between genuine preference and being a paid or coerced promoter. 1. Defining a "Shill" A "shill" is typically someone who promotes a product, service, or idea in a deceptive or disingenuous way, often for personal gain (like monetary compensation or benefits). The critical aspect here is the lack of transparency and sincerity-shills aim to manipulate others under the guise of impartiality. By contrast, genuine enthusiasm for something is rooted in personal taste, utility, or emotional resonance. 2. Personal Preference is Not Advocacy Humans are naturally inclined to like or dislike things based on their unique experiences, personalities, and needs. Enjoying or praising something doesn’t imply ulterior motives; it simply reflects one’s subjective perspective. For instance: Someone might adore a brand of headphones because of their sound quality and design. This isn’t a covert endorsement but rather an honest opinion shaped by use. Another might enjoy a film that others found lackluster. Their positive review stems from personal enjoyment, not because they were incentivized to boost ticket sales. Personal preference is a form of self-expression. It’s unfair to conflate it with manipulative promotion unless evidence of an ulterior motive is present. 3. Misinterpretation of Passion Sometimes, people mistake passion for advocacy. When someone enthusiastically praises a book, gadget, or fashion item, their intent is often to share joy or foster discussion. The level of passion can sometimes mimic what a marketing professional might exhibit in a sales pitch, but the origin is entirely different. Unlike a shill, whose objective is conversion (e.g., convincing others to purchase or believe something for external benefit), a passionate individual is driven by personal fulfillment. 4. Cultural Context and Hyperbole In online discourse, especially in spaces where skepticism and cynicism prevail, accusations of shilling can arise quickly. This is often because: Suspicion of marketing tactics: People are wary of how pervasive advertising has become, leading to knee-jerk reactions to positive opinions about products or services. Echo chambers: In communities that align strongly against certain products, companies, or ideologies, even neutral or mildly positive opinions can be met with hostility, being labeled as "shilling" to maintain groupthink. Projection of biases: Those accusing others of shilling might themselves assume that any praise must come from ulterior motives because of how they perceive the subject or their own experiences with marketing manipulation. 5. The Burden of Proof To label someone a shill is to accuse them of dishonesty and ulterior motives. Such accusations should be backed by evidence, such as: Financial ties to a company or organization being promoted. Undisclosed compensation for endorsements. Patterns of behavior that align more with professional promotion than genuine opinion (e.g., scripted responses, coordinated timing with marketing campaigns). Without evidence, claiming someone is a shill simply because they express positive feelings about something undermines constructive dialogue and unfairly maligns their character. 6. The Role of Nuance Liking an object or advocating for it also doesn’t mean someone is uncritical. People can simultaneously appreciate aspects of something while acknowledging its flaws. For example: A gamer might love a specific console despite recognizing its high cost. A car enthusiast might adore a particular model while admitting it isn’t the most environmentally friendly choice. This complexity further separates personal preference from promotional behavior. 7. Why Liking Something is Normal and Encouraged Liking objects-whether they’re products, works of art, or ideas-is central to how we connect with the world. It: Encourages diversity of thought and taste. Drives innovation and improvement by signaling to creators what resonates. Builds communities around shared interests. Stifling this enthusiasm by accusing others of being shills discourages genuine interaction and limits the richness of discourse. I also know you stopped reading at like 1 ....but it's still fun for me.
