Aging Metal | How To Age Galvanized Metal

We take a brand new Galvanized Bucket and age it so it looks like it's been out in the weather for a few years. There are several ways to achieve this but after some trial and error we found Toilet Bowl cleaner to be the fastest and easiest method.

Great idea! Also you can use "the works" toilet bowl cleaner to clean your porcelean sink, especially if you have hard water.

Nice video! I have found out that liquid gun blue also works very nice! But yours seem a lot cheaper though! :) I have uploaded a video of the process. Gun blue results in a much darker finish, but also a very nice patina.

TheFrugalCraftyMama people usually start with decorating their cameo. I haven't though lol. The first thing I did with mine was cut some vinyl for signs.

This is great! So easy. Now I have to go buy toilet bowl cleaner. I use vinegar for cleaning. You have to wonder what's in toilet bowl cleaner to get that reaction so quickly.

Sage Gideon you would probably have to sand them to get it to work you could try an inconspicuous area and see how it works out

This is exactly what I was looking for ro "unshine" my new galvanized raised bed. Only question is whether this finish will make it rust rught away or will ot still take years?

So I followed the instructions and I put the toilet bowl cleaner WITH BLEACH on my bucket but am not noticing an 'immediate' effects to the finish. So I'll let it sit overnight and see how it is in the morning. I do wonder if it matters what kind of 'metal' bucket it is and/or if the bleach in the toilet boil cleaner isn't as effective. We'll see!

So I have had best results specifically with the Kirkland brand cleaner from Costco... but other brands with bleach have worked as well. Letting it sit over night does help. If it’s still not as much as you would like in the morning hit it with some steel wool and then use the cleaner again and see what that does.
