"Turning a Bad situation into a Good one"
🌺Your plumeria plant cuttings should be between 12 and 18 inches long.
🌺If you remove the cuttings from the plant straight away, store them for a week in a warm shady place out of direct sun light with good air circulation.
🌺Don't allow leaves to remain on the lower part of the stem. If leaves are present there, clip them off, leaving just a few on the apical, or upper tip, end of the cutting
🌺For the soil use a mixture of 2 parts perlite to 1 part potting medium.
🌺Add water to the potting mixture before planting the cutting
🌺Dip the bottom of each cutting into water then into rooting hormone powder and sink them about halfway down into the potting mixture bout 3-4 inches down
🌺Place the containers in a spot that receives full sun or just a little bit of shade. Roots should form in 30 to 90 days
🌺Water lightly, Watering them too much at this stage can cause them to rot. Remember damp soil not wet.

Plumerias FAQ🌺 When to Watering Cuttings After It Has Been Potted Up: As far as watering make sure the soil is well draining (this is really important). Watering depends on your climate but my recommendation when it comes to rooting plumeria cutting is once you water the first time as you're potting it up in soil. You won’t need to water again for 4-6weeks. Also check the soil moisture after this time make sure the soil is dry. If it’s damp wait to water again till it’s dry then water throughly again. When you start to see signs of growth you can water as normal but until then don’t water it regularly as that can lead to stem rot if it hasn’t rooted yet. Hope this helps 🌺

@aGirlwithaGarden
@aGirlwithaGarden 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFamilyFarmstead there’s no need to mist the cutting that has no leaves. However if you weather is quite hot you’ll want to take that into account and adjust when you water it again after the initial watering when you plant your cutting.

I took a cutting from my Grandmother's tree when she moved, but it was the dead of winter. Then I forgot about it while it calloused. It sat in the corner of my laundry room for TWO MONTHS until I looked at it one day and realized, it's now or never. The stem had begun to wrinkle and I thought for sure it was a lost cause but I wrapped it up in peat moss with plastic wrap, and it sat unchanged until spring when it began to grow new foliage 😍 these plants are RESILIENT!

The previous house I lived at had a tall mature plumeria tree and I got 3 cuttings from it before I moved. I followed your video instructions and they are now starting to produce leaves. I am so happy about this. I have mine growing indoors and monitor them daily. I normally water them 2 to 3 weeks when I water my other plants that I’m growing indoors as well.

Awesome that you grow plants AND butterflies! When my mother-in-law went to Hawaii she brought me a little 5" cutting that I just stuck into a pot without any special care. It's now a HUGE plant that threatens to grow too big to bring into the house for the winter. It's about 5' tall and about 3' wide with leaves. It;s the most easy-care plant ever! And it has flowered for several years here in my NJ garden in the summers. I love your collection!

Deborah Christmas that’s awesome! Yes with you living in NJ it definitely will need to come in during the winter. You could try giving it a good prune to trim down the size and length of the branches. Pruning plumerias is another video I sure want to make :) Thanks for watching!

Wonderful video, thank you. I watch it regularly, each time I plan to root cuttings. My first plumeria was given to me over 20 years ago, in the largest size pot there is, so of course I couldn't repot it, but it is regularly trimmed, and seems happy in it's sunny spot in S CA.

Thank you for sharing, Jaiy. I got cuttings from a friend, let them dry out for a week, stuck them in a bucket with 2 gals. of water with one container of the same rooting compound, left them in the bucket for about nine days, dug small shallow holes for 5 cuttings, added a bit of fish fertilizer,then stuck the cuttings in the holes, and put the dirt back around the cuttings. The irrigation system waters them daily and thus far only one died but it was only about 4" long. The rest look great. Now to see if they can live through winter in the high desert. They survived all the other stuff I wasn't supposed to do. ;)

Have a dear friend Who gave me her starts of two Plumerias because these starts were given to her an she had no means to planting although I thought this was very sweet gift and she’s known how I love plants, the trick for me is that I live 4000 feet into the mountain areas of Palm Springs and I have to put them in pots in order to bring be able to get them out of Very cold seasons. I initially put them in a glass bowl with water and they routed angry flowers I was very excited but then I have a son that lives in Maui and when he saw them he told me that I needed to do something different because the Plumaria‘s need to be in soil where it could have good drainage.🤪I had no clue how to plant these until now! @aGirlwithaGarden
@aGirlwithaGarden 4 жыл бұрын
Marlyn Davis aw no that is pretty disappointing that it was getting ready to flower. You can actually leave the bottom half along with its roots intact in the pot and it will regrow.🌸🌺 it there’s enough truck left over I would got back and give it a clean cut. It’ll throw out all kinds of new growth. My neighbor who’s plumeria cuttings that I had used that had fallen, They just cut the tree down to the stump and didn’t remove the whole thing and months later it came back with all sorts of new growth and it’s flowering now too.🌺🌸 So I would suggest leaving the one in the pot. That is if you want it to regrow.

FrankDaTank Hello there 🌺🌿 glad you enjoyed my video and found it helpful. To answer your question yes you can root large cuttings. The process is the same but be sure to stake the cutting. It may take a bit longer for it to root but it is possible. How large would you say it is?

thanks for the info I'm gonna try this now!! And I always heard you should pour the root hormone into a plate or something and then use it so you aren't contaminating the hormone. Is that true? I assume it doesn't matter?

thats a general rule while working, not to use your stock container as working space. got nothing to do with hormone specifically.

Hey girl, I'm Dale Andrews from Lake Charles, LA. We're in the SW corner of Louisiana about 40-50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and enjoy a classic subtropical climate here. When it does occasionally freeze, it does so only lightly (28-32 degrees) in the dead middle of the night, warming up into the 40's or 50's the next day. It's also quite rainy here with a afternoon shower almost daily in the summertime. It's almost frost-free and will snow about once in 10-15 years! I love the warm climate here without snow! We can grow most varieties of palms outside in the ground (e.g. Washingtonia and Canary Island date palms are planted all around the city). You get the idea. We are not warm enough, however, for Frangipani to survive outside, as even a light frost would kill the tender plants. We grow them in pots and a relative of my sister's ex-husband has had one for many years, scooting it inside during the event of a light freeze or frost. Your channel has provided a lot of useful info as I try to start my cuttings that came in the mail yesterday from a vendor off of Etsy. Thanks for your posts and channel.

Lulu The narwhal hello there😁. To answer your question yes the straight branches will eventually branch off. They often do so after flowering. I’ll be doing an update video on my plumerias. I had to wait till they grew more and branched off to be able to finally show it in a video to you guys🌸💕💚

Thank you!! I'm new to Plumerias and followed this for a handful of cuttings a friend gave me. Should you pull them out to check and make sure they aren't just rotting?? I'm in zone 8, storing them inside my house, and worried that it won't work
@aGirlwithaGarden
@aGirlwithaGarden 3 жыл бұрын
Rachel Vong Hello there🌺. I don’t recommend putting the cuttings out of the soil to see if it has taken root or even to see it it is rotting. The roots that will first form will be very fragile. To check for rot just check the firmness of the cutting from time to time making sure that it stays hard. If you are rooting them indoors you’ll really want to make sure your soil is well draining and that it is getting adequate lighting as well.

@@lesliekoch7822 Get the milkweed plant and leave it outside. The Monarch butterflies will find it through their high sense of smell and lay eggs on it. The eggs are small oval shaped cream color. Keep the catepillars protected in a very fine mesh cage as the Monarch catepillars have many predators such as wolf spiders, wasps, lacewings, earwigs, assassin bugs and tachnid flies that will lay eggs in the catepillar and then the larva will eat the catepillar until it dies. God bless you for helping the Monarch butterflies.

Hello, thank you for the great video. I was wondrring if you maybe able to help. I have planted some cuttings into 3 pots, unfortunately one pot has died. No 2. Has some shriveling and possibly starting to become soft. And No 3. The stem is starting to go black slowly slowly. I do have some baby leave on the 2 i still have left. I more so just wanted to ensure they survived and i havent killed them. Initially when i planted them i didn't use a root or cutting compound and but actually i did get advised that putting honey on the tips helps. So i did so. If you have any ideas how to keep them and how i can make them become healthier it would be muchly appreciated. Also i love butterflies and that was amazing. Such a Wonderful idea.

Hello There, Sorry it took me a few days to respond to your comment. I hope your plumerias are still with us. To address the honey :) I have never tried rooting my plumerias with that method. I do know that honey is a natural antiseptic and contains antifungal properties and that could be why it can aid in root growing. I will have to try that out one day ;) but like I said I've never used honey to root any cuttings before. The plumeria cutting doesn't need any root growing hormone to root. I work with it because I have seen really good results when used. Now to address your Plumerias. I would cut back the soft and black parts of the cutting. It sounds like your cutting is experiencing stem root :( After cutting away the unhealthy part of the plant I would wait until it callous overs and then follow the steps again in my video. The plant still has some life left as you mentioned it has some baby leaves on them. Don't over water you're cutting. I can't stress that enough. Good luck with you're cuttings. Let me know how it goes :)

Yes, absolutely you can propagate a couple cuttings from that 2 foot cutting. Just remember to keep an eye on which side is up. You don't want to stick the wrong side of the cutting into the soil.
