Beautiful collection. Over 2 months ago I bought an Aglaonema Wishes, soil lasted damp for weeks, never dried up and I decided to get them out and check their roots, they were 3 individual plants instead of a lush big one, they were planted in tiny black plastic baskets with what I believe was peat moss , the roots were getting all strangled ( for lack of a better word) once I cut the basket and planted them individually they are now thriving .Keep an eye on yours to make sure you don't have the same issue

Thank you for posting this. I have a small Aglaonema with the same issue! I live in the desert and it’s very unusual for a plant not to dry out in a day or so, but the Aglaonema seems to last for weeks without needing water, and it never seems to grow, even though I’ve had it for months. I’m going to check it today to see if I have the same problem. Thanks!

OMG! Just one of my favorite plants. I have 3 varieties and planing to get other ones. Just like your Silver bay, after many years thriving and developing a quirky look of long curvy stems, my silver Queen at work started loosing a couple of stems, leaves getting all yellow. I immediately check the root to find root rot on most of the stems. I cleaned and cut the rot out, let dry a day with cinnamon on its end before placing in water to root. So I was able to save most of the stems. Later potted them up except two pieces, one pretty small and one medium size so I can eventually bring them home when mature. Unfortunately my large plant that I saved got stollen along with 9 other plants at work. Great mystery to the disappearances, but I have my suspicion. Anyway, I was glad I had the small cuttings and took them home immediately along with other prize plants. So now I just keep Pothos and peace Lilly’s since I’m constantly propagating them and filled the place with them. Anyway, been really enjoying your channel for many months. I like how informative and often detailed you are with discussing your various plants. I hope to eventually improve my channel just the same once I figure out all the editing tricks?

I had two silvers mailed to me a few years ago and they are still going great. They absolutely love bright florescent kitchen light. Finally got them into bigger pots recently one did just fine the other seems to be throwing a tantrum ; ) Awesome plant for my apartment needs water about every two weeks.

Bought my 3rd Ag today, a Trending Tropical Pink Dal. Since the rubber band incident regarding my Paquira aquatica I always re-pot/check roots after purchase. Today I found hard plastic mesh plugs? holding the plant, roots everywhere. Had to cut the plastic off the roots. Please check your new plants over when you get them home.

Had the same big box clearance-find/clearance-issue myself! Mine is a Red vs a Silver but root rot is what I determined as well. Wound up taking her out of their pot, exposing the roots, carefully dislodging all the soil as it was a super fine soil holding onto all the water they sprayed on her! Separated out the soggy, rotting stalks and potted the ones I could save in better draining soil. She’s doing better and a week later, I think I am getting a flower?! Water propagating two cuttings and I am hopeful! I enjoy the rescue as well. ☺️ New to your channel, glad to find you!

Hi Carmen, great informative video! Great to know they can be propagated in water. I have a small silver bay that I found on clearance and decided to take a chance. I had a siam also on clearance about 2 years ago but she did not survive and I was a bit shy to try again. I have HOPE this time!!!! (Ive seen HUGE aglaonema's at an airport, for instance so I'm confident I can be successful this time.)

I have 5 varieties of oxalis that are easygoing as long as they stay evenly moist and have enough light to continue blooming. My purple shamrock/oxalis triangularis has been in bloom nonstop since November.

Welcome to our little plant community! The key to repotting water propagations into soil is keeping the soil evenly moist after repotting for the first 7-10 days and then backing off to the normal watering schedule. The plant may droop a little at first but Aglaonemas are very strong and it will recover. I'll remember to wear more red, thanks!

I just brought a Silver Bay home from my local Walmart last week, so this was super helpful. I noticed on screen it said to use distilled or purified water. I have a well with a water softener, but have one line that bypasses softener. So it's either hard well water or soft well water. I use the hard for all plants but my calatheas and my African violet, I buy water for them. What do you suggest I use? Are they both harmful? Would a pitcher with filter help? Thanks Carmen.

I think the soft well water would be ok. I've never had a well, but it has to be better than our water. If you notice any browning of the leaf edges, then switch to filtered water. Thanks for visiting!

I have recently gotten into Aglaonema so this was fun, thank you! Gabriella Plants have started carrying Aglaonema, and they are ones that seem to be a bit less common. The trick is catching them in stock! Do different nurseries give the same plant different cultivar names? Sometimes plants that appear to be the same have different common names on different sites. It’s confusing!

I have 3 Agalonemas and love them. One of mine is Wishes and is doing well. I recently got another pink one, not sure it’s the same as my older one. I went to repot it and it was soo pot bound that I had a hard time getting it out of the pot. I tried to be gentle, but it kind of looks beat up. It drooped over and I kind of righted it and used a stick to support it. It must be in shock. Is there anything I should be doing? Thanks, I always enjoy your calm presentations!

If you already watered it after repotting, I would just give it some time. They are very hardy and should bounce back. But, don't over water it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

I just bought my first to floor plants a Chinese Evergreen and a snake plant about 9 days ago. The evergreen already has to dying leaves ☹. I have never had place to like that before and the tiny ones I had in the past died out very quickly. I want those to live. The way that I water them was I let water run through while they are in the sink, I wait about 10-15 then put them back in the plastic decorative pot, (the plants are in regular pots with holes at the bottom). I bought them from Home depot online. They were delivered from a different state. Their location gets good light. No direct light. Should I cut out the two leaves that turned yellow and are drooping? Also m, should I buy plant food? The evergreen is call Ogden madonna and it a 1.9 gallon in size. The snake plant is 9.25 inches.

Hi Gina! It's normal for Chinese Evergreens to get some yellow leaves, especially if those leaves are old. I cut those yellowing leaves off, it's just simply draining energy from the plant. Check how often you're watering. I let mine dry out pretty much all the way before I water. I do use a moisture meter to check them prior to watering. When it gets to a 3 (dry), then I water. Hope this helps.

What are the little black flys that came in with a snake plant I brought home a week ago. I have put it in a room by its self. I dont want my other plants to get them. I'm new to house plants. Thank you for all you share.

It sounds like fungus gnats. I would repot it with fresh soil. You can also use little granules call Mosquito Bits on top of the soil to keep them from coming back. Hope this helps.

Hi there! I'm new to your channel, and I'm so grateful I found it 🙏🏼 I just bought a Siam Aurora from Lowes but it came in a self watering planter (Costa Farms Wick and Grow), do you thinks is a good idea to keep it in that or would it best to just water normally? It definitely isnt in the best condition either, a few broken leaves and some yellowing leaves as well. Should I renove those damaged leaves or let the plant lose them naturally do you think? Also, my plant has those plastic cages around its roots. There's about 3 "clumps" in the pot and 1 cage around each. I've heard recently, many sellers are using the plastic cages and if you don't remove them, they could eventually harm the plant in the long run or restrict growth. Have you encountered any of these cages? I really appreciate the tips and advice, thanks so much in advance 💚

Welcome! I don't use the self watering or wick planters, I like to water them myself once I've checked the soil moisture. I also do remove the plastic pots or cages that on the plants. I think it eventually strangles the roots. Hope this helps! Thanks!

Ooo I love aglaonemas. I have three so far. 2 red siams and one large silver bat. For some reason the lower leaves on my silver bay are curling under 😩 no browning no yellowing just fully curled under. Do you know what causes that?

Usually curling of leaves means under watering. She may be thirsty.

Why do they leafs fall off on the Chinese silver bay I just perched one and that’s what it’s doing??

It can be common for the bottom leaves to fall off due to age. But, if a lot of leaves are falling, then it's probably a water and light issue. I water mine only when the soil is dry. I don't put them in direct sun either. Hope this helps.

Not in this mix. I do sometimes use a "renewed" mix, where I take older potting soil and add nutrients (worm castings) along with some orchid bark.

Love your plants. Every time I water my Chinese Everygreen ( Silver) my leaves turn yellow and I lose about four leaves. First I was using regular tap water that I have sitting in bottles for weeks before I use the water that didn’t work so I switch to distill water and that isn’t working I’m confuse what I’m I doing wrong?

I let my aglaonema dry completely before watering again. Use a moisture meter and let the needle reach "dry" before watering.

Hi Lynn and welcome! I use to live in an apartment with north facing windows. The plants I used were Snake Plants, Peace Lily, Maranta, Golden Pothos, heart leaf philodendron. Plants that have green leaves instead of variagation will do better.

Not sure if it's ok to ask for advice ....I have a Silver Bay...years old....it used to flower but for the last 10 years or so I will get the bud and it will start to open but then close back up and after a while turn brown and die. I've never seen that issue addressed anywhere....any ideas?

Hmmm, that's really strange, especially if the rest of the plant is fine and has lasted years. I would check your fertilizer, more phosphorous is good for plants that flower. Hope this helps.

Hi! I was just at the plant stand today. I think they had the Rose, it had lighter pink foliage with pink stems (beautiful 😍). They also had the chocolate aglaonemas. 😁 Only a few left though. I almost bought them all...I was there to get a pot and was able to restrain myself. 😂😂

@@carmenwhitehead Could you share your aglaonema propagation (i.e. go into a bit more detail and show current propagations)? I'm wondering if I should propagate my pictum tricolor. It has a loooong stem and of course, I would loooove a bushier plant.

@@JewelButterfly It's very similar to propagating any vining plant. Where the leaves grow out of (the rings around the stem), those are the nodes on the Aglaonemas. So cut just below a node and place it in water. The roots will grow out of the rings/nodes. On the mother plant the new grow will grow from the top node. Hope this helps.

Hi. I wonder if you can help me figure out why my aglaonema is drooping. It had only a few mealy bugs so I divided the stems, repotted in different pots, sprayed with a neem oil and soapy water mix, then rinsed it off. The following day all of the plants were severely drooping over as if they were dying. I hate to toss them out, but don't know what to do. What would you do?

Sounds like they went through some shock. Not much you can do other than water when needed. I wouldn't treat again for at least 3 weeks and only if needed. Hope this helps.

Hi, i really don’t have a window that can provide natural bright light to my Aglaonemas. Will a grow light do? what is the right ratio for slow release fertilizer? And lastly, does washing the leaves and soil with neem oil for pest harm the plant? Thank you

Medium light is just fine for Aglaonemas, especially green leafed ones. I do an even ratio 10-10-10. Neem oil will not harm the plant, it's a great preventative measure. Thanks for watching!

It may be the type of soil. I like to use a chunky mix with orchid bark in it and lots of perlite or pumice. This makes it very free draining. Also, I use a moisture meter every time I water to make sure it's ready for water. Hope this helps.

No, they are different. Wishes actually has more pink.

Just be careful of aglaonema golden fluorite and aglaonema pink moon.... those varieties tend to grow slower and root rot, even with cactus potting soil. Most varieties are stable- not all.

I pour water from the top when watering the plant or I will put water directly into the pole with a squeeze bottle.

@@carmenwhitehead I find my poles, even with humidifiers, need to be watered almost daily to keep them damp. I'm always worried about overwatering even though I do my best to only water the pole. I'm finding it quite annoying & anxiety inducing, lol

How do you keep your red Siam from getting leggy? I had a pot of them for two years that looked bushy great, then it started losing most of its lower leaves and looked terrible. Sigh. I finally cut off all the stems down to 3 inches and have successfully rooted the leaf stems. (I tried rooting in water. After about 8 months only 1 out of 6 cuttings got a root. So I finally took the other non rooted ones and put them in potting soil with a lot of pumice and put the watered pot into a large ziplock bag. Those did root well.) Meanwhile, the original pot with the 3 inch stubs have all sprouted new branches and 7 new sprouts have emerged from the soil. Whew. So I might be given a second chance. How do you keep it bushy , not leggy? I want to succeed the second time around.

Some Aglaonemas I found grow taller than others and the Red Siam I think is one of them. I have to tie mine together so it doesn't flop over. Fertilizer may help it grow more leaves and stay bushier. Good luck!

I'd just monitor the dog with plants for a while and stick to non-toxic plants until you're sure he doesn't bother them. My dogo canario couldn't care less about what kind of vegetable i put on the ground. He just sniffs at them but they're not interesting for him. The only problem was that he could knock them over, so the ones I really like I put out of reach.
