I messed up my aglaomena first year. All the lovely stems broke off one by one. I tried rooting the "cuttings" in water but was not successful even after 6 months. Then as a last resort, I put the ach of the unrooted cuttings in separate small pots of soil, watered them well, and plopped each one in 2 gallon ziplock bag. Opened bag once a week or so for 1/2 -1 hour when condensation got pretty heavy. Never needed to add more water. In a few months new leaves started growing. After about 1/2 year all had good roots and I potted them back in with mother plant of stumps. Figured I would give all a year to recover or give it away. Well the rooted "cuttings" looked great and the mother stumps all grew 2 branches at their bare top and new shoots started popping up from the soil. Years later I have a gorgeous pot filled. So worth the wait.

I inherited mine from a dear friend who passed from ovarian cancer in 1997. She had it as long as I can remember. It's still doing well in 2024. I never knew houseplants could live so long. It's only been repotted once since I've had it but already thinking I'll give it some attention this spring.

I bought this plant this past November and it is thriving! It has shown new growth since then, about 4-5 leaves so far… they are beautiful and easy houseplants 🥰

I got mine at a big box store and we're definitely entering our LEAP growth year! It was 3 plants when I got it, put off a single pup in the 2nd year. Now it's working on about 10 new shoots! :) Love this series, thank you, Nick!

I managed to grab a couple cuttings of this from my job back in the fall. I’ve been propagating them in water ever since. I’m really excited to finally pot them in soil after months of waiting for them to root!

Thanks for the video. I think I told you before Aglaonemas are my favorite. I have about 21 varieties at the moment. I had Silver Bay when I first got into plants back in 2020. I got it at a big box store. It was in a 10” pot. It lasted about 6 months and died. After about 3 months it started losing leaves, several each week. I’m not sure why. My first Aglaonema was Siam Aurora which I still have and doing great. Maybe I’ll try Silver Bay again.🤗💕

Great video, Nick! I love Aglaonemas and I always look for a new variety. The ones I get in 6 inch pots seem to grow slower but on their second year they step up their game. 😊 Many thanks for mentioning that typically they don’t carry a ton of leaves. My Red Siam is like that and years ago I would panic at a yellow leaf. The rest of my Aglaonemas stay fuller with a yellow leaf just now and then. Many thanks for your video! 👏🪴🥰

Got my silver bay on sale because it was ‘too big’. I don’t care that these plants are ‘common’, mine grew all throughout winter and was just happy to have a home instead of wasting away in the discount section. One of my favorite plant babies 🤍

I’ve had an aglaonema since July 2018! The leaves were damaged and it was on clearance. Last spring I started learning how to care for plants and since then it’s been growing like crazy! I repotted to a smaller pot 8’ then this year I had to repot to a bigger size again 10’, it loves the sun. It’s about 3ft tall with huge leaves and a spotted variegation. Idk what kind it is, but it’s looking great!

Hey nick, recently found your channel. I've been branching out 😉 and getting more into the leafy side of house plants. My comfort zone is definitely with cacti and succulents in general. But every question I type into KZbin one of your videos pop up. It's awesome!

Perfect timing! I just got a silver bay plant a month ago. I’ve been letting the leaves droop a little before watering them, not sure if that will stress the plant out.

I managed to give my first one root rot but chopped the stalk off and re-routed it in water, in which it's still growing really well in a pretty conical flask.

Love aglaonema. They are my second favorite after scindapsus. I find the common types are prolific growers but my rare variety, sterling silver, is much slower.

Omg I got one of those (already in a pretty mature stage) from lowes and its the most rewarding plant I own. All I did was to keep it by a north facing window and its always putting up leafs and flowers for me! I just think they are way more thirsty than I expected.

I’ve had this and another, unsure of the sp. for a few years now, their new leaves are having a hard time unfurrowing and when they do they’re limp and have vertical ridges in them like fold marks almost. I thought I was under watering so I ramped that up and no change. I am going to repot with fresh soil as I’ve not done that yet! Any recommendations?!

I got a stam cutting of Silver Bay from the guy that looks after the plants in a building that I'm in and out of fairly regularly! I've had it in water for two weeks! It is sending out a new leaf, but there are no signs of root growth? How long does it take for the roots to form? I very rarely see the guy that gave me the cutting!

I was given 2 cuttings back in November and I rooted them in water. While in water, 1 cutting had a new leaf that opened up. Once the roots got long enough, I moved to good soil and... they're not dying but not growing. One cutting has had a furled leaf this entire time and there has been no movement AT ALL. I'm wondering if something's wrong and if the leaf will ever open. Any ideas? What could I be doing wrong?
@Korina422 жыл бұрын
You're not doing anything wrong; the fact that it's alive proves you're doing it right. Water roots are structurally different from soil roots, so it's just using all its energy to grow new roots; when it has enough, it'll start putting energy into growing leaves.
