Smash Bros Editing Tutorial: Recording Clips

This is the first tutorial in a multi-part series. I hope some of you are able to benefit from this video and can get you started on track for creating smash montages. Looking to expand the smash editing community and I think this is a great way to get new people to try it out. I would love to see tutorials on recording with the in game camera, the actual editing process, how you do those 3D effects with text, stuff like that. You're style is probably the best I've seen on YT, those DK Primal Videos are fucking fantastic.

Hey Bro, I'd love to see a part 2 coming! I started to edit my smash clips, but I just can't get the camera angles right that it looks so smooth as in you montages. It's very different. I recommend looking up tutorials for the ui of after effects and get familiar with how it works

Is recording the replay with a capture card better quality than recording the video with a capture card? Whenever I do this, I feel like recording the replay itself is better quality. The switch seems to display the replay in full quality as opposed to when the switch is playing the mp4 file in the SD card. It could very well be a placebo, but I need someone else’s opinion.

That works fine. When you are creating a video out of your replay (video conversion thing in the menu), when you watch the replay back to choose the parts you want, it is actually playing the replay at full quality, even though the MP4 file on the sd card you get as a result of this process has been lowered in quality. TDLR; during clip conversion and just playing a replay there is full quality for a capture card. The video files are worse than both of these.

Pretty sure you can only do the cines with a capture card because smash replays don’t allow you to record you panning around characters when it’s paused...

Hey I wanna use the sd card method only. becuase I want to be able to hear the game music while playing. Is the replay quality any different if you dont export it on the sd card? In other words when I record the replay with a capture card on the replay is the quality different?

yes it does, if your Mac doesn't have a slot just buy a adapter. Shouldn't be that expensive. That's btw the exact way I am recording my videos, just save the clip, then convert it into a video and move it into my pc. Then I edit it with premiere pro.
