The Zelda one is huge for her. The shield on the Phantom is completely invincible, so she can safely charge against projectiles like Wolf's Blaster, Link's everything, Pikachu Thunderjolts etc. This allows her to utilize the delayed Phantom whereas she couldn't before without being interrupted I think it makes her an amazing counter zoner. Camping her out via projectiles will be so difficult with this plus Din's Fire and Nayru's Love. Piercing projectiles will still give her trouble but those are a minority
@jacobrael98725 жыл бұрын

@@jacobrael9872 Yeah it can be helpful against aerials since she's farther behind it. It would also put the opponent in hitlag giving her a minor frame advantage Fun fact: it will even block Bouncing Fish and force Sheik to bounce off. Zelda can then (if she started the phantom early enough) punish her. Or, if she started charging really early, Fsmash her while she's in hitlag. It's pretty good here since regular phantom can be punished from mid range on reaction by Sheik's BF

Man, this is honestly game changing for some characters. I play sephiroth and being able to do a short hop wave bounce shadow flare in neutral is ridiculous. I use a gc controller, and idk if wired controllers don't have the extra should button, but the wireless one which is what I use does. I had both shoulders set to shield originally so I can angle my shield but I rarely use it. Also this is just so much more useful. So the change isn't an issue for me. I haven't quite mastered this 100% yet but am getting it pretty consistently. And it really is much easier and faster to do than a normal wave bounce. So glad I came across this video. Thanks for sharing!
@augustobs245 жыл бұрын
Maybe a little add-on to the guide: Macro cancelling can also be used to cancel Pivot Tilts and do aggresive wavebounces (bouncing into the enemy). For the Pivot Tilt Cancelling, just start a run animation to one side, tilt the control stick to the other side to star a slide animation and then, at the same time, press special and the C-stick to whatever direction you want (or just special to start a neutral special). This CAN be done without changing the controls (mostly neutral and side special are easy to do without c-stick cancels), but doing it with C-stick seems to maximise your slide distance, direction of the move (using the upper and lower right and left notches to instantly reverse the special and also helps tremendously when trying to execute a sliding up-special or down special, since you only slide with the control stick and choose the special with the C-stick (all the Links are benefitted by this, for example). This can be great for both retreating with a grounded special or making sure your specials cover more ground than usual (like Link's or Bayo's UpB). The video also focuses on defensive wavebounces (meaning, bouncing away from the opponent). If you want to do the opposite, just run away from them, jump and the immediately press Control stick in the opposite direction you were running + Special + C-stick in the direction you were running. Again, this can be done with a runaway b-reverse, but the C-stick cancel starts the special way faster that doing it the normal way. This will probably be reposted in Smashboards, but I thought a lot of people will see this video first or don't have a Smashboards account.

I have help!!! Sorta! Lol I had literally the same exact issue for awhile today. On normal speed it would be a b-reverse, but when I went to 1/4 speed, I got it almost every time. I was wondering why this was only broken on 1x speed. Obviously this was my fault, but it seemed like it wasn't. Once I realized that, and my own finger-bias for button pressing, I figured it out. When you b-reverse instead of wave bounce, you are hitting the Special button like a SPLIT SECOND too late. Once I started tricking my brain to 'pressing special early', since my thumb is faster in general, it compensated the speed to make them more direct. So like you should be doing... Over, jump-special-c stick. But I was subconsciously doing Over, jump-c stick-special I think... lol. Once I realized there was timing issues with my button inputs, I went to 1/4 speed til I got it down pat, then to 1/2, then 2/3, then 1x, etc. But I can GUARANTEE you that your timing of how you press the button and c stick is off. Either you're like me and your thumb moves too quickly, or maybe it's your index finger. But I got it working and was 100% doing b-reversals at first instead of wave bounces. I hope this helps!

For anyone struggling with the Zelda technique, I made an error list below. If you're consistently having problems, slow down, do each input slowly, and then slowly speed up back to regular speed (a regular exercise in training memory). You'll get it, give it time. For the reverse down air: If you get a tilt: you pressed jump too slow If you get a forward air: you pressed jump before the c stick If you get a back air: you did not move the control stick downward fast enough If you get a down air with no momentum: you moved the control stick downward too fast (before jumping) If you get a forward down air with backward momentum: you hit the c stick and jump on the same frame For the B reverse down air: If you get no B move: you pressed B too late If you get Din's fire forward: You pressed jump before the c stick, or you pressed B too early If you get Din's fire backward: You didn't move the control stick down fast enough If you get Knight backward: You pressed B before the c stick If you get the neutral B: Work on rolling the control stick from right/left to down. Did they do something to patch this or is my timing just really bad? I can consistently breverse now but wave bouncing is like 1/20 for me. I really want to learn this cause I'm playing ylink. run in -> jump -> cstick back -> special. When I try this it's normally I just throw a backair, otherwise I end up doing side b behind me. Can somebody help me figure out the timing on when i use the cstick and the special?

i cant seem to wavebounce my boomerang when using Link, it just does a b reverse using this method 3:02
@bhilder4 жыл бұрын
Yo, I'm trying to learn this as well and I was thinking the same, but I managed to get it. I practice by doing the tilt attack cancel into special the air at the peek of my jump instead of straight away so I can get the hang of the cancel. Also did it in 1/4 speed too. Hope it helps :)

it's weird, i can do almost consistantly a neutral wavebounce in 2/3 speed and lower, but at x1 i do a turnaround instead every single time :(
@SallowDawn4 жыл бұрын
SAME. Did you ever figure it out?
@MrFloshadow4 жыл бұрын
@@SallowDawn I think i know why. I tested it a lot and i figured out something with my labbers friends : in short, the lower speed game isn't exactly the same for the cstick. I think it's a 3-frames in a direction plus one press of let's say A, in a normal case scenario buuuut in 2/3 or lower speed world, when you do like a c-stick ftilt it's 4 frames in the given direction, plus one press of A we tested it with mega man in the training stage to be sure of it, and we are pretty confident about it So it's not possible to do it on the ground like that
@SallowDawn4 жыл бұрын

@hiraku7415 жыл бұрын
This video is very VERY helpful! I hope you get to continue making content like this. I would like to add a few personal notes. The b-reverse is very inconsistent when I first started but when I let go of the control stick after the jump then immediately buffered the tilt+special+left it is coming out more consistent. I will continue to experiment with the other tech, but highly recommended! Thank you!

Nice idea to use the macro for B-reverse! I will try that. I was experimenting with C-stick mapped to Special before, but for some reason it only allowed me to do a B-reverse (wave bounce) when Time scale was 2/3 or less! (at least in the Training Room) To solve this I had to press B to confirm the reversed direction... So I might as well keep my C-stick for Tilt. I fear that C-stick only simulates low magnitude stick input though, which means we can only use the tilt version of specials with a tilt vs smash variant. Your example at 12:07 actually shows an advantage of a tilt variant, but sometimes I just need the smash variant. The fact that the C-stick as tilt maps to a low magnitude direction matches the fact that 45 degree C-stick + B => neutral B. At max magnitude, 45 degree + B would give a side B (and a bit below, a down B). It still good to know for all the specials without variant, while you can still use the classic B-reverse input with the main stick for an actual reverse smash B.

You can literally run at someone then wavebounce boomerang with ease to bait a shield grab or jump off stage and wavebounce angled boomerang to get extra ledge pressure. Highly recommend using.
