I think I might have it. I've been so scared of elevators ever since I was like 7 and I got stuck in one by myself. I know its stupid but ever since then (a long time) I've just been so scared of them even if I'm not alone. I think it might be a form of agoraphobia or really bad anxiety.

A daily anti-depressant for fifteen years has stopped my anxiety attacks and severe depression, and I've been diagnosed with PTSD. But, my safe place is in my home. I don't feel like I am afraid of open spaces, I am more afraid of dealing with people and I love being alone. I am my most reliable support person after all.

Looks like your not the only one who feeling this type of way, i also do love being alone and i feels comfortable staying inside my home rather than going outside and dealing with people who we think that are a threat to all of us. I also suffer from depression since may 2020 it was the worst feeling you couldn't ever imagine, I feel as if I was in a hellest place that I ever experienced with bullies and those who seek to take advantage over us and it's sad that I have to go through this and still I am, I just wish this would've never happened to me or to you or anyone else who's suffering from this.

I cannot leave my house for more than 1 hour and it’s been like this for 5 years. When I do I sweat really bad, get an adrenaline rush like I’m in survival mode and think everyone is out to harm me, I see everyone as a threat which makes me a threat. Even at home I feel like people are out to get me… I hate hearing people outside or cars pulling up, I don’t even feel safe at home and it’s so draining because I can never sleep until gone 2-3AM every single night it’s genuinely like living in hell

I think I may have a severe case of agoraphobia, I want to go to a doctor but I am so scared to leave my house, especially with the rise in mass shootings, that has NOT helped my phobia at all. I’m not scared of places/ spaces I am terrified of people! You never know who’s planning your murder or if a stray bullet will hit you and kill you, or human trafficking!!! I have agoraphobia. For me it’s mostly a fear of social settings, unfamiliar places, and anywhere where I’m alone but in public. It started with social anxiety but after a situation where a series of traumas left me homeless and fleeing the state to go live in a safe house where I didn’t know the area, I started having issues with leaving the house. It actually took a few months, post trauma, to be noticeable. It started getting bad when I got into a more long term home. However, I had to work. I had ‘safe people’ at work so I could tolerate it most of the time. I’ve done a lot of therapy and now I’m pretty high functioning with it. The fear is still there but I can cope with it, and people don’t really notice it.

I spent eight years in total isolation due to panic disorder with agoraphobia. However, I have had those symptoms ever since I can remember. It took me about four years before I seeked any treatment only to be mistreated by the doctor which made me waste another four years isolated. I have never had a date or anything like it, however most women who were/are in the exact same situation don't seem to have a problem with it.

Wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I was diagnosed with panic disorder at age 8 as well as social anxiety. 13 major depression with recurrent episodes. 17 I was a full fledged drug addict and alcoholic. 19 experienced severe trauma and added PTSD to the list. I was also diagnosed with a severe social phobia. It has gotten worse and worse every year. Humans aren’t meant to isolate like this. You become hyper focused on your own problems bc your world is so small. It was real bad for a year I almost never left my apartment. No exaggerating there. Only people I interacted with were my partner at the time, my mom and my drug dealer /the alcohol delivery person. After coming extremely close to dying from suicide in February I got help that was suited to my needs exactly. Needed mental health support with the agoraphobia and anxiety tendencies I had that crippled me. It was a brutal but amazing experience. 3 months later I was home except not at home- had to go to a sober living program. I tried so fucking hard. But almost 2 months later I couldn’t take it anymore. Knowing my place was literally 10 mins away- my safe place that I craved more than any drug- was torture. It was insane how quickly I was back in my old patterns and then behavior. It’s worse than ever now. I haven’t been able to work or go to school in 6 months. No more driving or running errands. There’s a constant feeling of death approaching when I’m outside. I walk my dog but never leave my apartment complex. I’m dying inside the apt, the opposite of that delusion. Idk how to change. Or if I even csn

Hi I'm not sure if what I say will help but I will try anyway. I've had agoraphobic issues since 2020 and working from home or maybe before that but didn't realise at the time. Before 2020 I just about managed to get out and some of the time I'm ok and other times my mind goes into a weird state in certain places, certain settings etc. Get crazy thoughts and panic attacks the works, feel like I'll end up in a mental home you name it. But 1 thing about these thoughts is that they're only thoughts, mostly paranoid thoughts and in reality can't really harm you however intense and nuts these thoughts are and how they make you feel. This doesn't make the problem go away knowing this because you'll still fear putting yourself in these situations outside and fear the feelings you get which comes from these thoughts. Most of these thoughts if not all of these fearful thoughts are normally wrong. A load of nonsense plays in our head however intensely scared and disturbed it makes you! That's the crazy thing about these issues we have, we have these issues that have been damaging to our lives over untrue thoughts! A load of nonsense thoughts are the reason we can't be out in the open without our fears! I'm not sure what your lifestyle is but for me tomorrow it will be 7 weeks with no alcohol and that stuff is so bad for the mind and mental health. There's a lot of things people like us can't do anymore like drinking, smoking, caffeine, sugar and we have to replace them with exercise, healthy eating, meditation, breathing exercises and so on. I recommend watching hypnosis videos on here too to deal with anxiety and hopefully might be some on agoraphobia too. I should look for that too actually because I'm still going through it. Also these things exercise etc aren't overnight fixes neither you have to be consistent with all these things which I haven't been admittedly until they bring the desired results. Including these hypnosis videos on here got to listen to them every day to start getting results. Check out Andrew Major on here his videos are great. I'm still trying to figure it all out myself. But along with what I mentioned, if you like your booze definitely advise to give that poison a miss! And see if there are hypnosis sessions for agoraphobia but don't expect instant results. Even when you absolutely don't feel like it keep at it. Sorry for this long message lol but I know how it all feels, hope what I said helps. Bare in mind also, not saying this to downplay your horrible issue but think of this others in the world possibly have agoraphobia worse than you and managed to overcome. So no reason why that can't be you too, let's push back against these nonsense thoughts, these lies. Wish you all the best.

@@salligriffin2847 I can leave home just about but can only go as far as my local woodlands. Recently I couldn't get out at all because of the ridiculous amount of booze I had 7 weekends ago. The anxiety was insane. But that's done now, no more ever after what it's done to my mental state. Yeah try some hypnosis, I'm not sure if Andrew Major has any to do with agoraphobia. His channel is good though and he reckons you get full benefits thr more you keep doing it. Consistency is key. If he hasn't got one about agoraphobia might be another somewhere on here. Maybe who knows you might be able to get back out again but in baby steps rather than throwing yourself straight into the deep end and build it all back up. @Linward
@Linward Жыл бұрын
Embarrassment is a big component with agoraphobia, but public nausea alone is not enough to be diagnosed as agoraphobic. Anxiety can and does act on the sympathetic nervous system. It certainly effects me that way. I'm prescribed anti nausea meds, but I only take it when I have to attend a public event, doctors office appointment like the dentist, even going out to get my hair cut is challenging. Agoraphobia also upsets my lower GI so I'll take Imodium. There are days that I don't eat all day long, or maybe only have some crackers.

Until this I was very happy. So after building house I wanted to expand and open office and did exactly so and rented a place set up the whole beautiful office but when time came to go office daily things started going down. I started feeling tightness in my chest, my heart beating super fast and my mind about to burst and while going to office I kept thinking what the hell was wrong with me that I had to open this office. I was earning so well sitting at home. It's been 2 weeks I'm lying on bed and heart beating. @MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric 3 ай бұрын
@oliviathomas-c2p That sounds incredibly tough to deal with, and anxiety can often manifest in challenging ways. It’s important to remember that this response is due to heightened anxiety and not a physical issue. Practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing and grounding exercises can help reduce the intensity of these feelings. Working with a therapist who specializes in anxiety or phobias might also be beneficial to address these specific triggers. You’re stronger than your fears-keep pushing forward! 💪💖

Trying to figure out what I have and this is the closest I’ve found but idk if it’s right. If anyone has an idea, pls let me know what these mean. There’s a lot, just to warn you. - not being able to keep my balance (e.g. with biking, skating, skateboarding- can’t learn to do those) - wind (specifically being aware of the force it puts on the materials of large structures around me. Not scared of them breaking, just being aware of the force of it scares me) - if things supporting me move, especially when it feels like they aren’t supposed to (again, the force thing. I can’t ride in busses or campers, and most rides are terrifying. Also things like grocery carts in parking lots, when they rattle n stuff) - having blood flow/ circulation interrupted in any way even if it’s minor and not enough to make a limb tingle - sharp objects ANYWHERE NEAR fingers (esp with skating. I’m terrified someone will skate over my fingers) - really small spaces (but only if they restrict movement. Like if something happened and they were to compress more and I wouldn’t be able to get out quickly. Otherwise, I actually like small spaces) - things like incurable illnesses, especially involving the brain - surgery of any kind - needles - stolen time (specifically stolen. I’m fine with time passing, even if I’m “wasting” it. It’s specifically when it’s taken unfairly. I can’t watch Interstellar bc of that one scene, probably the best example of this) - any feeling where you’re momentarily not in control of your body (was scared of slides as a kid, couldn’t do a lot of things in gymnastics, can’t go downhill on wheels) - stairs (I have issues with coordination and don’t trust myself not to fall) - driving (not a fear but I’m dead-set in never being behind a wheel, for the same reason as the last one. Also [mostly] because I process information really slowly and can’t take in details. Sort of unrelated, but worth mentioning.) To summarize: I have issues lol

You need to seek professional help for sure, sounds like multiple phobias are part of your struggles, on a purely physical level have you been diagnosed with vertigo? There are some non invasive treatments for that. Just one suggestion about some of the issues.
@icchasaki
@icchasaki 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t been diagnosed with anything, unfortunately. We’ve been trying to get me an autism diagnosis since I was five and it still hasn’t happened, so I doubt other diagnoses will happen any time soon. :/ I don’t think I have vertigo, though? I don’t have the feeling of things moving or swaying. I just process information slowly and don’t trust that I’ll react properly/ fast enough in many situations, if that makes sense. And with the slide thing, for example, I was never bothered being at the top of the slide; it was that moment where you go and there’s no option to slow down or stop.

@MedicalCentric
@MedicalCentric 8 күн бұрын
@bonsai8493 I'm really sorry to hear your child is struggling after lockdown-it’s been tough on many. You’re right that CBT often requires in-person visits, and getting prescribed medication usually involves seeing a GP. However, there are still ways you can support your child at home. Encourage small steps toward routine, structure, and comfort, like engaging in hobbies they enjoy, gentle exercise, and creating a calming environment. Online therapy options (telehealth) are also available for CBT, which might be a good fit for your situation. It’s important to approach things with patience and empathy, and seeking online support could be a helpful first step. You’re doing your best, and that’s what matters most. 💖

Diagnosed officially today but knew I had it. Also extreme anxiety to the point of nausea every day. Don’t want to fix it like psychiatrist wants me to try to do. He said it would take me out my comfort zone. I never leave my house. I love being alone but I’m not lonely. Why put myself through worse anxiety attacks when I feel safe and lower anxiety in my safe bubble? Also have had bipolar and ptsd for years and self harm a few times about 10 years ago. He wants me to do group therapy. I could cry. I do NOT want to do that. I have my husband bring me things I need so I don’t have to get out. I’ve got a freakin 2023 Tahoe in my garage and don’t even want to walk to the mailbox.

I have been dealing with agoraphobia for more than 6 years now but from time to time. Back in 6 years I was almost about to kill myself cause I couldn't bear that fear shit but fortunately or unfortunately my mom found out about it and my parents helped me a lot to overcome it. I received CBT therapy and I was almost healed. But when I don't go outside it comes again and again. Somehow I'm doing a job now and I've to travel alone and it makes me so much anxious and feared. I've always travelled with one of my parents and now I'm travelling alone. It makes me so much unmotivated so I again feel like I don't want to live anymore. Tears are flowing even at the time when I'm writing this. Idk what to do or how to deal cause I'm so done with everything now. I'm so tired and lifeless. Idk why I have such a weak heart that I can't resist to this fear and anxiety. I really want to go to work but this shit keeps distracting me. I don't know what will happen in the future I want to die but I know nothing will change after I die. I still have small hopes let's see what will happen. I wish no one would have to go through a shit like agoraphobia it truly kills someone inch by inch.

I was having panic attacks everyday almost all day especially if I have to leave the house or drive somewhere it ended up getting worse and worse thinking I Was dying from heart attacks everyday. I went to cardioligist my heart rate would randomly shoot up to 150 and sometimes stay there for an hour it was terrifying. I am taking anti depressants for a month now and the anxiety seems to be getting better still hasnt gone away and I still dont drive yet but I Feel like im slowly getting better ive been trying to exercise more. I havnt worked for 3 months cause im scared to drive alone now even though ive been driving and doing things normally for 14 years this is the worst anxiety ive ever had.I still barely leave the house but im slowly starting to kinda. I feel bad cause im not helping bring money in but ive been trying for months to get help with this its very slow going. The anti depressants do seem to help me after taking for about a month. I want to get back into the world and start working again and hanging out with family and stuff like that but I feel like im still trapped. Im trying to push through it and remind myself if I start feeling anxious that im not in danger trying to keep your mind busy can help. Ive had panic attacks before in my life but only once in a while. It started happening everyday all day had to quit my job and stay home and just keep going to differnt doctors trying to get help with it its terrible I dont wish anybody to have a mental disorder like this.

Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder where individuals feel intense fear or discomfort in situations where escape might be difficult or help unavailable, often leading them to avoid places or situations that trigger these feelings. If you've never left your town, it might be linked to this fear, making it challenging to venture out or travel. Addressing agoraphobia usually involves therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and sometimes medication to manage anxiety. Taking gradual steps to expand your comfort zone, with the support of a therapist or loved ones, can help you gain more confidence and freedom in your movements.

@user-jq9oo2tx8i Benzodiazepines can be effective for managing anxiety and other conditions, but it's true that not all doctors are willing to prescribe them due to concerns about dependence and side effects. I was actually diagnosed with agoraphobia recently, but I kind of have suffered from it for the past 10 years. I honestly have no idea what started it. A lot of this video makes sense. I have always been kind of nervous person, and I am very sensitive to noises and very loud stimuli. My agoraphobia got significantly worse after my health started declining after the birth of my daughter in November 2021. I went from just being afraid to go to certain places to legit being afraid to just walk out in the sunlight. I have some sort of connective tissue disorder that we’re trying to figure out and I have a very very negative reaction from the sunlight. This didn’t happen until after I was pregnant, but it has made it excessively difficult to even walk outside my house sometimes. I am in literally every treatment program you could possibly think of. I’m on a lot of medication to try to manage the symptoms and I do have some other issues aside from this one but this video does describe it pretty well. I’m trying to work with a therapist currently to find out why I have so much fear around even walking out the door.
