Lesson on Agoraphobia: Diagnosis, Symptoms and Treatment. Agoraphobia is the "fear of the marketplace" but more specifically, it is a recurrent fear/anxiety about at least 2 different situations due to the the fear of having panic-like symptoms or embarrassing symptoms during these situations. Agoraphobia is similar to panic attacks and panic disorder, and often panic disorder co-occurs with agoraphobia, with individuals avoiding different situations due to the fear of having a panic attack; however, it is not necessary to panic attacks or panic disorder in order to have agoraphobia. Therefore, agoraphobia can be thought of on the "panic disorder" spectrum but also as a distinct disorder of its own. Agoraphobia, like other anxiety disorders, can be treated with CBT and SSRIs.

@@gray5953 I will only have that feeling if there are people i that know are inside the store. Because i don't like talking or socializing and in my tradition you are considered rude, arrogant or weird when you meet people you know and don't act friendly. I did not have this issue in foreign countries because pretty much every restaurant, store, etc that I went to I barely met anyone I know. Is this also a mental illness or just introversion?

@@serenaantony4338 not all agoraphobics are confined to the home. Many agoraphobics lead basically normal lives. But in the case of children , it’s very different. A child has no control over its life. A child cannot execute the desire to “ escape” as this disorder compels them to do. They deal with this trauma in other ways like wetting their pants or other methods. Their childhood which is not usually diagnosed as agoraphobia , creates a living hell through childhood years and can impact terribly on their education

Have u had this disorder all your life or did it develop over time. If it’s agoraphobia, you were born with it. Maybe a distant relative had it It doesn’t have to come from the immediate family. And not many psychologists understand this genetic disorder. Read the Claire weekes method in her book. Hope and help for your nerves. Claire weekes was a research scientist as well as a psychologist.

@Arlie Satchitananda ૐ have you always had this stress. Because if you’ve had it since childhood, it is probably agoraphobia. If it is a psychological anxiety disorder then you need to see a doctor first for the correct prescription and then perhaps a psychiatrist who deals with medicine. Avoid psychologists. They cannot prescribe medicine. If it is agoraphobia then you must learn the Claire weekes method. You might also need something to calm you down from a psychiatrist. Good luck. And most importantly, ask. God for help. Google the divine mercy chaplet. It takes 5 minutes to say.

**TIPS TO THOSE WHO HAVE AGORAPHOBIA ! 1. Take deep breaths slowly, enhale and exhale slowly. 2. Chew on mint gum when you leave your house. 3. Do math equations in your mind, for example, 74 + 82, and do lots of equations to get distracted. 4. Think of your house, and then think of 3 things that make you happy. 5. Create stories in your mind to get distracted. 6. Try to sit down if possible. 7. Eat something small if possible. 8. Listen to music if possible. 9. Calm down. 10. Try to be social, and tell yourself " I'm just outside, just like home, everywhere is my home, there is nothing to worry about. Tips for school : 1. Sit down in class. 2. Breathe slowly. 3. Focus on what your teacher is saying. 4. Participate in the session. 5. Interact with others. 6. Do the general tips I mentioned before. Hope this helped!**

The way I describe this disorder to people is it’s like having a bear running at you, you don’t have to think of why you’re scared you just are. It’s an involuntary response that I believe is fight or flight and it misfires in our head maybe due to genetic disposition or trauma. So we end up having this terrified deer in headlights reaction to walking down the street or going to the store. It definitely needs better treatment.

I was diagnosed with agoraphobia along with generalized anxiety disorder and depression after two and half years of going to a psychiatrist. My fear of having a panic attack and have people stare at me while in public is so crippling that I can barely go outside. I've started to get worse in these last two or so years now where I'm starting to get panic attacks while at home. They are different from my public panic attacks as they seem a lot milder (like increased heart rate and adrenaline). I've been talking to my doctor about it and I've tried different types of medications and it's very frustrating, because these at-home panic attacks seem to happen at random when nothing is going on and at this point I'm not sure what to do anymore.

I have the same problem, and what's worse is the fear of being alone. Once people I feel safe with leave home or the house is empty, I instantly get panic attacks. It's been this way for years and it's been debilitating for me and people around me. I wish there is an actual solution for this. I feel like the mental health community is not addressing this issue enough.

To be blunt, the only thing that can fix you is yourself. Medication isn't a cure for your emotions and you shouldn't think of it that way, sorry. Don't try and fight it, embrace it, let it happen. Honestly go outside and walk, and just tell yourself, "no matter what happens I'm reaching my destination. If I panic then I panic, if i don't then I don't, either way I'm making it to my destination and back". Anything can be fixed as long as you're alive. Never give in and work with your emotions not against them. You're scared because you're not facing what you're scared of. Yes you'll be frightened in the short term, but the long term result will be a calm mind. Whereas if you run away you'll be calm in the short term but still frightened continously.

My agoraphobia (if that's what it is) manifests itself in wide open and very flat landscapes. There has been some research into a spatial connection in which the eyes don't have enough visual cues to make sense of the surroundings. I feel disoriented and dizzy. Agoraphobia is not a fear of the market place. That is simply how ancient Greeks named it in people who had panic attacks in public. The ancient world had no real knowledge of genetic disorders or psychological disorders. And when psychologists only mimic what other psychologists write about it , the errors will continue. Agoraphobia is not gender biased. Just as many men get it as women. But many men see it as a threat to their masculinity and are less likely to get help. But judging by the numbers that write into social media , it proves it

During the plandemic was the absolute worst because wearing masks gave me anxiety and made me feel like I wasn’t breathing, but if I didn’t wear one, strangers would come up to me and start yelling at me! I ended up quitting my job because I just couldn’t do it.

Agoraphobia also has another dimension. It can also contribute to a criminal act. An agoraphobic may be so overtaken by a panic attack , that they will commit a crime crime rather than face another solution. A person with agoraphobia might steal something like numberplates , rather than face the thought of going to the registration branch to register the car. It can also be an incentive to drug take or other difficult situations

I'm tired of emotions being labeled as disorders. I'm actually here wondering if I have this because OTHER people have made me feel this way. I didn't originally have a fear of anything until these people came along putting me down. So it's not a disorder. It has an outside cause. It's someone else's fault. Does anyone else feel this way?

(Could some1 tell m wut this is) Idk if this is what I have and I’ve felt it once and like this week but it wasn’t as bad. I was at like a carnival with my mom and I was eating ice cream and we were by like circus music a little, and then my heart started to beat fast and i was getting scared and I also felt less important, that If anything happened the crowd of people that it was jsut an incident like death for example, that’d I’d be jsut a case, that was one thing I was thinking of, but that wasn’t jsut it, it was me being a group and that music, (I’m not afraid of clowns), it jsut got to me somehow, and I told my mom and I was almost about to cry, I could hardly get it out my mouth that I was scared and I was repeatedly asking, “Where’s the car” “where’s the car”, because idk why, but I was panicking. There another time this week, when a lot of people were in the cafetorium, they were sitting down and there were a lot of them but on one side, but them they told one of the fourth to stand up and go to the right, then I started to panic of how much people were there jsut a little bit, it def wasn’t as bad when I was out with my mom and wanted to leave in a snap and everyone was there to talk about the field trip and I’m wondering if this’ll prolly happen again. It between both of the situations, I did go somewhere with some rides but I didn’t feel it., I’m not sure what I’m feeling but it’s new and scary.

CAC Vata balance tablet is a rejuvenating blend of herbs is specially formulated to balance Vata doshas without aggravating Pitta or Kapha doshas. It may be used to support overall health and well-being by Vata constitutions with or without food. For those with a dual constitution that includes Vata or a tridoshic constitution, it is an excellent formula for the Vata season, which in most parts of the world is autumn and early winter.
