Agra, India is the WORST city I have been to

Please read before commenting... Life is a circle and not a line. It's about learning from your experiences and mistakes. 3 mistakes I made when posting this video were the title, thumbnail and talking about India as a whole and not specifically about Agra. I have since updated the title and thumbnail, but can't change the video. Everything I discuss was my experience and interpretation, so whilst it is not applicable across the whole of India it does illustrate Agra as a city. This is backed up by many Indian natives and people who have travelled there in the comments across all my socials. In the future I will look to explore some of the other areas people have mentioned in the comments, which they feels give a better account of India as a country. If you know somewhere that isn't on the list that you think we should travel to please drop it in the comments. From the comments people seem to be under the impression that I think the the UK is the holy grail when it comes to countries. We have a magnitude of issues from crime, to politics and of course the weather! No country or city is perfect, but I wanted to share a real honest insight to my experience and thoughts (which I do for every country). Please insert Agra everytime I mention India. I'm an indian who left India at age 23. I live in Canada and its really hard to survive here but i still don't wanna go back to India for the same reasons you said. As somebody who grew up there, i can say that the inequality there between rich and middle class is horrendous. I had friends who had cooks,servants,maids and would get away with violent crimes just by bribing a few thousand rupees. Life is disgusting in India for everyday working people like me... More so if we come from modest families. I'm very grateful to have left that country.

@@gazwrighttravel Canada is full of Indians RN. They are pretty law abiding and civil here,just giving you a heads up. West Canada is beautiful...Surrey, Vancouver all of British Columbia is really beautiful to look at when it doesn't aggressively snow. Toronto is just like New York City except more snow. Ontario side the cold is pretty unbearable but worth once in a lifetime visit I'd say.

I thought I was back at uni whipping up a dissertation. On a serious note it is fairly long and you need a certain size photo which is a pain, but its all online and I got my results back in 24 hours so can't complain to much there. I guess with it being such a big place they need to know who is going in and out. When and where are you heading out there?

100%.. My girlfriend and her friend were there for a few months work visas teaching English. They were in upper class areas and staying with a nice family with a lot of money, but any time they left the house they were on edge. Never walked around with anything important and always dealing with men staring at them like hungry dogs. Really really nasty sexual advances too.

Same experience. It was a nightmare. I and my wife planned a month long trip to India and we cut short our trip within a week. The worst part is that my wife, who is 67 years old, was getting some undue advances from a lot of local men. People say that you need to go to other places not just the big cities in india. I mean why on earth we would go to a god forsaken place if we don’t get positive first hand experience. In contrast, I found Africa way more welcoming and positive than India. We are now on an African tour, I’d highly recommend you give it a shot. Just avoid west Africa. Rwanda, Ghana, Mozambique, and Namibia have positively surprised us in terms of infrastructure, cleanliness, people’s etiquette, prices, and comfort.

@@gazwrighttravel Namibia was exquisite. And so was Rwanda. What amazed me was the cleanliness of the roads and infrastructure. We started with a safari at the kalahari desert but ended by extending. We are here till May the 5th. I highly recommend Namibia. The Namib sand sea beach seems surreal.

Entire African continent GDP is 1 trillon dollars, India it's 4 , we have way better infrastructure than Africa and way nicer people, it's you who failed to plan a trip, expecting 1.4 billion to welcome you like king, not you nor me can fix the BHEAVIOUR of entire Indian population, you should've planned properly, and most Indian will help you in any crowded place and if someone is harassing you you can always call the police or ask for help from the local, Assam has the best wetlands and wildlife sanctuaries in the world, kerela is beautiful, and undue advances cut the crap, u don't even know the language of our people, there's worse things happening in your country that you don't condemn, like the rape of an 19 year old Indian student in chicago, or the 11 Indian students dead in past six months, or how you blamed Biltmore crash entirely on indian when they were the one sending sos and the pilot was local and not even indian 🤡

Hey Gaz,. Dont listen to the naysayers. Its all pretty accurate. Ive lived in several cities in India. Hygiene is pretty terrible across the board especially when it comes to food. I avoid street food like the plague. Pretty much everything you mentioned is on point. Great impartial review. Good job!

I've been to India a few times, once as a solo traveller (female) to Delhi and Agra and had a very different experience. I found if i said no to anyone trying sell or begging they listened. I never felt unsafe and never encountered any issues. Maybe as I have been to Goa a couple of times I knew roughly what I would be getting in Delhi, so it wasnt much of a culture shock. So I hope this video doesn't put people off going.

I visited India as a solo female for over two months. Went to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Agra, some of the northern parts of India, and plenty of areas in between. Delhi and Agra were definitely my least favorite, so not surprised that you hated India based on your three days there. I was very good at saying no, and would speak to them in Hindi. I noticed people are much quicker to leave you alone if you tell them to leave you alone in their language. If you ever go back, you should consider visiting northern India. It's much quieter and absolutely beautiful.

I think anyone who watched my video (as you have) knows I am speaking just about Agra and the thumbnail is just a thumbnail. 3 days is a small sample size in another country (hence me saying the caveat in the intro), never mind one as big as India. @@gazwrighttravel There are plenty of beautiful areas in Himachal Pradesh. I knew of quite a few people who also went up to Jammu and Kashmir and loved it. I can't speak for that area myself, because I never visited, but have friends who lived there and can attest to the beauty.

I also work as a paramedic in a relatively large city, and the things I’ve seen people die of, just in the US and while going about their daily and relatively safe lives, is truly astonishing. One of my best experiences was visiting many UNESCO world heritage sites in India especially the Taj Majal in Agra (I really admire the incredible Pietra dura workmanship). I also admire the forts and palaces in Rajasthan. My best experience was in Oberoi Wildflower Hall in Mashorba near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, during snowy winter, Manali and Solang valley are also beautiful during winter.

How did I get being in Mumbai, no thanks to my previous ex employer MIDA. While I was in KLCC, I had a vacation in Andalusia, Spain, and I fell in love with Europe. Once I left the full completion of the KLCC project, I was aiming to experience working and living in Europe, a place that's better than KL, a more conducive environment to broaden my horizon. In India, Northern eastern States like Sikkim, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram are clean, somewhat hygienic, better traffic sense. For newcomer to India, i suggest you to visit Kerala (like Sri Lanka), some premium parts in Himalayas, and Rajasthan. Andaman and Lakshadweep islands are the best, it give a feel of low cost Maldives. You can visit "off-beat" historic temples of Tamil Nadu (state with 44000 ancient temples),

We went all the way to Agra and never got to see the Taj. My girlfriend kept on getting harassed and the line was long so we just gave up. We briefly saw the Red Fort then left. I don't even regret it. It's a shit city in a pretty shitty country. I still recommend it to anyone that struggles to appreciate their home country.

Also, some time has past so I'm probably less PC diplomatic and a bit more objective and frank. @@gazwrighttravel McLeod ganj and Manali are nicer spots I remember. I wanted to get to Leh but didn't make it. Gets cooler and cleaner the higher you go. You can rent one if you just need to get around a few areas of interest but if you want to wander, go to a guesthouse with lots of dreadlocked Israeli dudes and buy a bike from one them heading home. Enfields might make for nice social media photos but are heavy for can be tricky for unexperienced riders (like I was). Get a Bajaj Pulsar or a Yamaha if you actually want to get anywhere. Yamahas are better bikes but they have parts for Pulsars everywhere.

Kerala in the deep south is by far the most beautiful part of India, and its people are well-educated and mostly Catholic, so it's a much more civilized region. The food is better than the north's too. Definitely visit it if you give the country another chance.

I've been living and working in India (6 months at a time) for the past 20 years, not in the tourist hotspots I might add, but after the initial assult on your senses, India is a great place to visit. Things you are correct on, the driving, its madness, people spitting, yep, this happens and its disgusting, hygiene is not up to western standards, but Indian houses are pretty clean in themselves, though slums do abound in big cities. Keep away from touristy places and India is a very different story

Agree with everything. It is disgusting and just chaotic unlike anything that you would have ever experienced. The country has extensive history and the sites are incredible. India has to be experienced - somehow things work - there is order in chaos. I would say, why go to remote places in India which you can go anywhere in the world. India is about people, culture, history and the madness! If you are looking quiet and scenic place, India is not for you. If you are about somebody who enjoys different culture and just absorb what you see - go, and enjoy! Unlike many western countries, the place very safe.

I have been to India 5 times and here i have to disagree with you that India doesn't have scenic places. North-east India is made up of 8 states (Meghalaya, Arunchal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland. etc i forgot few names) and these states have the himalayan mountain ranges and foothills one of the most scenic places on earth and people are completely different than the rest of India and places are very clean. Then further up In the Northern India there you have Himachal Pradesh(kasol, Dharamshala Shimla,Manali,Kalga),Kashmir (Sonamarg, Gulmarg,Kargil,Dras) ,Ladakh and Leh and boy oh boy these states are the most beautiful places i have ever been in my entire life. Then in the south you have Kerala, Karnataka, Goa famous for its beaches, hills and greenery. Then there are islands Andaman and lakshadeep which have the coral reefs, white sands and clean blue water probably one of the cleanest beaches in the world. You can google the places to see if you don't believe me. Foreign tourists only visits places like Delhi, Agra, Varanasi and come to the conclusion that the whole country is choatic and doesn't have scenic places.

Kerala (green lush forests and unique culture), Mangalore (clean and beautiful beaches, better than western country beaches), Mysore (Palace and heritage city,billion times better than Birmingham palace), Hyderabad (Best food in India), Kanyakumari road trip (trip to the end point of India), Bangalore (Silicon Valley and beautiful pubs). I am not exaggerating. It’s a totally different and beautiful India in the south. Rich people, rich culture, rich heritage.

I completely understand your viewpoint and there is a lot of legitimacy to it. India still has a long way to go with regards to hygiene and urban infrastructure. But I do think your review suffers from confirmation bias. It looks like you went into India expecting the negative stereotypes and your brain was actively picking them out. I am saying this because, you mention a few times about being on edge looking out for pickpockets and the like. But truth be told, India has one of the least property crime rates among all the countries I have lived or visited in and that includes many in Europe. I have never felt my things would be stolen in India as much as I had worried in San Francisco or Paris. So that's what stood out to me. It looked like your preconceived notions heavily colored your judgement. Nevertheless, on certain aspects you are right. But hope, you would be a little more discerning in future.

Hey Nick thanks for the message and noted. I wrote a little note pinned at the top... but I think based on most feedback from tourists and Indian people - Agra is one of the 'most heavy' places to go. I have since changed the title, thumbnail etc, but I could have worded things a little better :) we live and learn don't we. Taj - Beautiful Homestay - Amazing But I do stand by the being on edge with our belongings and constant harassment. Lots of socio-economic factors as you say that play a part of it, but I just like to share my thoughts and experience from an explorers standpoint. I have to say I definitely loved India much more than Europe. I found Europe to be an overpriced piece of vanity cities boring as heck full of old people. India was a lot more vibrant, full of energy, and plenty of innovations. In Agra, I took the swanky metro everywhere - the metro is way better than anything i have taken in Europe. The worst country I have been ever to has to be the UK - absolutely overpriced garbage experience with some cities stuck in the past. The wireless was slow and drunken bozos peeing everywhere. Not to mention wading through drug addicts with tattoos all over. Overall I preferred India a lot more to countries like England for sure.

Thats great to hear matey! Europe has a great diversity of places and things to experiences. I agree that the UK is at the bottom of those. I love Italy, Spain and Southern France and then you have cool places like Croatia, Germany and Albania :) Life is a lesson and we learn and improve. Cities like Srinagar and Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir also offer pleasant experience. I just want to say that UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are worst states which you can visit. In West Bengal Kolkata is an exception.

I spent 10 days in India (Mumbai, New Delhi, Agra and Goa) and had a great time - I'm even planning on going back! But I do agree with the touts being unstoppable, I was constantly bombarded with people trying to sell me stuff and drag me into shops or get me in their tuktuk. Agra was definitely the most hectic place I went to so I can see why you think that. Apart from the aggressive sales tactics, the actual real people I met were all super kind and I made great connections and had good convos. Driving is chaos in India but if you're going to travel in Thailand or Vietnam it'll be the same haha. It somehow works. Crossing the roads in Hanoi is something of an art: just start crossing into traffic, consistent speed, no hesistating and the cars/scooters will avoid you! India is definitely intense but most people are friendly and there's so much to see and do, such a huge country. Been enjoying all the vids, keep it up!! Enjoy!

I didn’t want a ‘vacation’ I wanted to explore. Specially the Taj. I’ve been to 67 counties so I would say I’m a fairly seasoned traveller… Agra is unfortunately the worst city I have been to. That being said I should have spoken specifically about Agra and not India as a whole. It’s a huge place and like the UK there are obviously good and bad places. Lots of people have recommend other areas of India, so we’ll check them out next time.

You've been to most populated state of the country, among the lowest Literacy rate. You should have not left the area nearby Taj Mahal that is known as Taj Ganj. Since you were staying in homestay you were likely in a village (was village couple of years back) so when you go out for the food and stuff you cross the busy slums like streets. Hope things will be improved in future but just to let you know the area nearby Taj and the main city is different. It was a village now it is improved because of tourism. So you see mixed things there. But I wonder why rich people like you from expensive cities like London stay in Homestay in narrow lanes :D Why can't you people book Amar Vilas kind of hotels and feel the beauty of taj right from your window. Then visit the main city. However, honking piss me off too. :P

Here in India the average income is 400 USD per month (2 nights in a 3 star hotel in London). If you know nicotine is the hardest addiction to quit and a pack of cigarettes costs 6 to 7 usd here so people buy chewing tobacco that is 0.05 usd per pack. When I was in europe i saw the butts of cigarettes on the road everywhere i did not say that's worst thing I ever saw. Now I am not justifying any of the wrong things even I truly wanted people to improve. But this is Asia not west that should be the expectation. Poverty and illiteracy bring what you saw in Agra. Btw I have courage to say that what you said is 100% true and i wish it should improve I am just not sure why you became so upset. Southeast Asia and East Asia are much better for travel. Well considering that you are not a fan of busy bustling and chaotic cities, I would suggest northern Pakistan. Start out of Islamabad, and head north, places like Gilgit, Hunza, Fairy Meadows to view the mighty Nanga Parbat and the associated glacier, are fantastic. If you wanna experience a bit of history and chaos then Lahore, but its like Delhi Lite. Best things about Pakistan are the people, food and natural beauty, if that interests you, you will have a good time. @@gazwrighttravel

Well if thats the case, you should have atleast empathized with the situation of poverty, desperation and appreciated the fact that the poverty in this country is a big issue. And so is lack of access to education. You may very well know or may not that the government has started taking such initiatives to allow for better sanitation for those who have the lack of basic amenities in their life. Im sorry you had a bad experience .... Agra and delhi are not for everyone and so are most cities in uttar pradesh. Although its a big big caveat that you only were here 3 days and only visited Agra. I would refrain from calling the video about India when all i visited was one city. You should definitely come back and have a longer stay. And visit places which normally tourists overlook. You'll have a much more pleasent experience. And never be worried about safety in India. People dont keep guns here 😜. Indian streets are some of the safest. Even for solo ladies. That said, some crime is everywhere. You cant even roam alone on the streets of Paris these days. India is magnitudes safer than that or even cities like LA or LV. I would suggest learning some basic words in Hindi. The moment you speak even one of those words to someone you'll see their friendliness multiply by a 1000 times and it will also be a quick deterrent for scammers and those oesky rikshaw drivers... I really hope you come back and try out more of India

"India isn't for beginners and the weak" 1. Very poor country - agree or not but among all states most of them are poor. And it also ranked 139 in poverty index. 2. If you watch the news, Kolkata rape case, and there are even more which r not that popular cases 3. Caste system, discrimination, no hygiene - again agree or not 4. Worst government ever 5. Illeteracy 6.Ignorant attitude 7.Religious blindness 8.Uncultured 9.Aggressive behaviour - always ready to fight even when they r wrong, I'm an Indian too so no lie 9.Not accepting modern lifestyle 10. And the main, still not accepting your country as a horrible country (most states) I mean even east india is clean and has a lot of trees and no pollution is there then why r we only like this? Because their patriotism is real. When they say they respect their country it means they also clean and take care of it while what we do is, we say india is not for beginners because we know it's not a good country at all. You think your country perfect in everything? We are developing country and we are learning.. and bro we don't have gun culture and homeless people , drug addicts and yeah greed enough rob poor countries like your continent did.... The UK has many issues and it’s deffo not perfect. Appreciate the feedback and as I have mentioned to other people I should have talked specifically about Agra and not India as a whole. That being said it would be Agra is the worst city I have ever been to as I’m standing on business with everything I saw. Many people suggested other areas of the country and highlighted Agra and Delhi as the worst places to visit as a tourist. Is that fair?

@@gazwrighttravel I completely got your point about the shock you received, be it the horns or the homeless people on roads or the uneducated cab drivers or the local tourist ( illiterate poor Fans of white skin) queuing up to take selfies with you guys , and the small business owners trying to sell you their services, but that doesn't mean you will summarise the whole country in your few hours of stay, You need to turn up a few history pages to see what India actually is and why was everyone so mad to invade India, what was columbus actually trying to find ? I can't change your experience or your perspective but I'll surely say that you need to have bigger balls if you really want to gain something out of your so called tourism vlogs, this video will give you a short spike of views but you'll ultimately be a loser only
