The thing that impresses me the most is the insane charging speed of these batteries & that you only need 3 batteries per drone. Even if you needed 10, it would still be cheaper than old school equipment (tractor + sprayer). That's amazing!
@JanVokas
@JanVokas 2 жыл бұрын
And If you have 20 of them (or the amount for all day long work), you might not need the gasoline generator. Refuel just with simple ol' gravity and recharge all batteries at home/shop. And thus whole setup should be even more cheaper (I assume that batteries are cheaper than this massive generator, I might be wrong).

I too think that recharging them constantly is allot cheaper. Would it not be interesting to have bigger lead acid batteries and some solar panels as a power source? You could easely charge those overnight for a full day work and charge the drone's batteries from the power of the lead acids.

You could adapt this to automatically refill itself relatively easy and the entire process could be automated. You could add various field sensors(water levels, nutrient levels, ph, etc) that report back to it so the entire thing is completely automated.
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper Жыл бұрын
Battery swaps would be a problem, that would be a complicated task and costly to automate without redesigning parts of the drone so the battery could be swapped from the bottom, and it would still be fairly difficult to implement. Loading the tank would be easy though, just have the port on bottom and make a pad to center the landing skids so the nozzle aligns with the port.
@Jonj57
@Jonj57 Жыл бұрын
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper It wouldn't be cheap but if you built the truck around the drone you could build a dock into the top of the truck where the battery gets swapped and water filled automatically. Not sure its any better than just having a dude do it though considering you're always going to have to have at least one guy drive the truck and monitor the drone.
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper Жыл бұрын
@@Jonj57 Well think about how you'd get the battery out and a new one in...it's accessed from the top and has a latch that needs to be undone as well. You'd need an arm that extends out with an apparatus that both grabs the battery and unlatches it, then pulls it out and drops it in a charger, then grabs another battery and pops it in. It sounds simple but practically speaking would require some automation approaching the level of a 4 axis CNC or assembly line robotic arm. By the time you get the bugs worked out, you're probably out enough money to buy another drone. Now, if the battery could be accessed and removed from the underside of the drone, that would greatly simplify things, as all you'd likely need is a carousel arrangement for the battery packs. I could see a fully autonomous loading operation being very useful though, even if it doesn't save a whole lot of time (or any, really) with a single drone. It would start becoming useful with say half a dozen drones or more on a large flatbed trailer, where they all could theoretically be managed and monitored by a single operator sitting in front of a screen for each drone, checking status and operation on the entire fleet (swarm?) both on displays and when they come in for another load. Rather than having six pilots/loaders for a single field, you'd have one guy, making it more profitable for a sole owner/proprietor. The name of the game is to rack up as many acres as possible when you're in aerial application, and if you're stuck only being able to cover one or two drones by yourself, you're not going to be making a whole lot of money.
@Jonj57
@Jonj57 Жыл бұрын
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper sorry i forgot to mention it would require a sidle loaded battery. Then when it lands it would be easy to have an electric arm push the old battery put and push a new battery in

Very impressive to be able to carry that much weight. If down the road we develop different herbicides, insecticide, fungicides this could be a very nice advantage. Of course the biggest advantage is not being able to sit down and drink sodas, lol….the advantage is not having to enter the field with equipment, thus saving from compaction damage and equipment damage. Roughly $50k at a minimum, plus many months of time for passing exams and waiting for FAA regulators. ~$30k for drone, charger, batteries, spare parts. $10k for modest trailer setup. $6k for insurance. $4k for legal, generator, misc. These are minimums, and assumes you already have the vehicle to pull the trailer. Don't forget marketing costs-- ads, trade shows etc-- anywhere from $2-$20k depending on how aggressive you want to be. And, you have to hire a Visual Observer for every job, at $15-30/hour.

It's already super inefficient. There aren't many products that's are sprayed at such a low rate of 2 g per acre. Even at that low rate, the drone can only spray 4 acres. LOL. Farms big enough to invest in a $15k+ drone (plus ancillary equipment required for it), won't have any use for a drone that needs to constantly refill. Most products will only get around 1-2 acres done per flight. You have 1000 acres, and you'll be there for weeks spraying that. You'll never be able to charge batteries fast enough. You'll need a dozen of the $1.1k batteries
