I found it fascinating that the guy who made this civil war series is the same game who made DarthMod for the Total War games!

People knock DarthMod for collecting various smaller mods and compiling them, but with this he really showed that he's capable of making his own game.

@@darth-hellhound6534 i mean, it's still a gigantic chore to put together so many mods, and picking choosing and balancing each of them to make such a good total war experience, but with this the "darth can't do shit" party of the comunity can take their complais and stick em werever they please . The man knows how to do stuff.

I'm finding that close management of supplies is especially important. I've noticed units start being resupplied as the supply wagon passes by, just as long as they fall into the circular zone around the wagon. I'm also making use of the hold fire command, especially for artillery. It's a waste of the resource to fire cannon or volley fire at targets at extreme range. I can handle a few casualties at extreme range and hold my volley until I can inflict several casualties. Holding fire also gives me the chance to deliver a solid blow to enemy should they decide to charge.

Very good tutorial, especially for those just starting out. Stay off that RUN button or your men will lose condition very quickly.. only use it when it's very advantageous to do so.. Also, don't charge until your close or at the very least, not as far from the enemy so as not to lose as much condition. This applies to your cav units especially.

I always, always, always use the double quick button when I"m maneuvering troops within range of enemy fire. It's well worth it for the edge you gain by getting in position and getting that first volley off a few seconds earlier and it can help you get your brigade turned in time to avoid flanking fire.

I find it best to deploy skirmishers from brigades that are in defensive positions. If im feeling more aggressive ill put the skirmishers in the defensive positions and send the brigades out. Slowing down and depleting the enemy with skirmishers is hugely important. They also can counter flanking attacks and protect cannons and supply wagons from cavalry and skirmishers who get behind your lines.

if I ever get charged by a battalion of troops I liked to split off skermishers if I can in that instance, because they basically give me main force enough time to basically shoot a whole volley a point blank range, it's surprisingly effective.

I keep getting my cavalry killed. I'm overly aggressive with it or forget to move them and level them exposed. There should be a skirmish button for them to automatically fall back before they get into trouble.

using the shield icon to entrench a 2,000 man brig is a mistake they will suffer huge casualties and before long they will break . Your better off using skirmishers maybe 200 because there so spread out there hard to hit even when in the open and fired on by a full brig hardly any are killed. Next place two brig behind them on top of each other you must lock them in place or they will separate as soon as an enemy gets close enough move them and another two brig next to them forward lock them in place and order them to fire with all 4 brig firing at once the enemy will take massive losses and break after that move them back behind the skirmishers. Locking your brig in place is the most important tip otherwise they will make a stupid move or turn leaving their flank exposed or a cannon will pursue a brig that has pulled back out of range. Placing a brig on top of another is a sure way to out gun your enemy. Remember skirmishers are always running you must let them rest or they will exhaust themselves and be useless

All was going well for me defending until I clicked a unit to simply re-position it and they somehow showed their flank right when an enemy volley crashed-immediate route and wasn't keeping tabs on where my supply wagon was-it surrenders...*forehead slap* I felt as incompetent as General Ben Butler. Skirmishers are your best friend in this game as well as keeping track of cover. I feel stupid blundering through this game...steep learning curve. Controls are fairly easy but I'm still figuring out specific buttons and actions as they can be catastrophic if you do the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time. I guess one could say that's 'realistic'. (I'm used to 'Total War' with non-firing units that's more forgiving as far as flanks and rear fire are concerned.)

I know this is 3 years old but why send brigades foward to get destroyed in detail? Malvern Hill is one of the most defensible position of the entire civil war. You lose all the advantage of that ground holds by moving brigades foward of it. Just stay in those trenches and rotate fresh brigades as needed. Y

In this map rather than defending, i would chose to attack them first using forest as perimeter and canons beside my division, at least until they bring reinforcement. Those forest offer excellent defensive position and shooting the enemies in open field means the disadvantage stacked against them, In the main fortification perimeter after our reinforcement arrived, I use a lot of 10pdr & nap cannons at the left center and 2 12 gun strenght 10pdr at my right, when their last bit troops charge i literally obliterate their army

the only thing I dont like about this game is during the campaign it will say "your 2nd division approach's from the north, and your third division has set up on the east hill" im like, no? I dont want to do that, I would never do that? I want to decide if my divisions split up or if we march as one whole corps. it just feels like the first half of a battle is just getting my army together after they split up for no reaso

This is a great question, I will look for my video on Chancellorsville regarding this. From what I remember the Confederates have a long line extending almost through the map. The way I won was focusing entirely on one point of this line, charging it and then rolling up the rest of the line.

Why would a flanking shot do more damage? I would assume it would only cause a moral penalty.
@harrisvalle6639
@harrisvalle6639 4 жыл бұрын
It has to do with focused fire. Imagine your regiment and the enemy's is 100 men wide and 5 men deep. If you fire at the enemy regiment front-to-front, you are targeting the whole line, and missed shots are more likely to fly past inflicting no damage. Your fire becomes spread-out, hitting everywhere but not hitting anywhere efficiently. If you fire at their flank, your fire is focused and effective, and missed shots are more likely to hit men deeper in the enemy regiment. Also, the enemy regiment cannot effectively return fire. Other then that, being flanked is extremely demoralizing as well as deadly, both in the game and in real life. The best thing to do is have a regiment engage their front, and another regiment or skirmishers engage their flank. Just remember to protect the flanking units' flank!

Understanding Fall Back and Skirmishers is essential to the success in this game. Bring your artillery up close but make sure to protect thos batteries. Dont think cavalry will route the enemy as they do in Total War games. This is a different experience.

With the supply truck I noticed it has options for it looks like infantry rifles and cannon balls. Do you have to click on them when the supplies truck stops for them to distribute supplies? Also, how do you know how much supplies your units have, can you monitor a infantry units supplies as the battle goes on to make sure they don't run out? I've run into that a couple times where my units ran out of ammo.
@KrisWustrow
@KrisWustrow 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am a long-time player of this game. Answers to your questions: (1) do you have to click on supply wagon to distribute? No. As long as the supply wagon has supplies and is not set to "off", then supplies will automatically distribute to all units within the circle. (2) can you monitor unit ammo level? Yes. When you click on a unit, in the left corner of screen a unit info box will appear. There is a horizontal bar which shows the ammo amount.
@Alex-ej4wm
@Alex-ej4wm 5 жыл бұрын
@@KrisWustrow Thanks! One other question if you don't mind? When you're in Camp before a battle there is the "supply" part of camp with the arrows going up or down. How do you know you have enough supplies in that number? I never know how much money I should put into that before a battle.
@KrisWustrow
@KrisWustrow 5 жыл бұрын
@@Alex-ej4wm Yes, this feature is the amount of money you decide to put as ammo for that specific corp's supply wagon. How much to put in? Typically I always just keep it maxed to $35000 (unless you are short on cash, you can go down to about $15-18K). Basically, your artillery soaks up the most ammo supply, then your snipers. The best answer is how long is your next battle. For a short one-day battle, with only 10 or 12 units allowed, you need maybe $15K. For a long slug-fest like 2nd Bull Run, you'll need the full $35K. Here is another note about supply wagons: For ONE DAY battles, your supply resets to your selected amount WITHOUT taking any money from your treasury (it's like a gift). So, no matter if you use $15K or $35K or whatever amount, after the one-day battle it goes back to the original amount at no charge. So that's why it is best to set it higher...it's essentially ammo for free. For multi-day battles, the supply wagons are refilled but money comes from your treasury (if you haven't spent it all). So be careful of that on the grand battles.
