Podcast is Called : ASN Humans Are Space Orcs , HFY and other stories
--------------
This Story is Classified as HFY or Humanity Feck, Yea , but what does the Mean?
-------------
HFY is a story/series that takes a “human element” in either humanity or an “other” (race/species or object) that exists in a “setting” (future or other world/universe) with varying levels of culture, technology, society and history that help show in some shape or form the potential good or bad for humanity’s race/culture. In These stories Humans are often referred to as Human, Humanity, Deathworlder, Hellwolder in reference to the human planet of origin , Earth. This planet is seen by most of the universe as a place where only death and chaos can survive.
-------------
Taken from the FAQ of the r/HFY subreddit.
Humans Are Space Orcs (HASO) or Humans Are (Fantasy Race) Are used as a guide when writing.
In these Stories we normally View humans like the other races view orcs in a Fantasy Novel. We (Humans) share the same characteristics and personalities as orcs. Humans are normally treated as the outsiders and barbarians. Humans tend to be underestimated as well in these stories. Unlike Humanity Feck Yea , these don't always put a positive spin on humans\humanity sometimes looking at the darker side of human and humanity from the perspective of aliens.

A very appropriate story for these times. There are a lot of people today that, when things don't work the way they expect, go absolutely catatonic. There is a good reason many are leaving cities and becoming preppers, or at least, starting a homestead. Much like sports, it is remembering the fundamentals, then build on them. Survival, then comfort, then luxuries.

A: “You…you stared into the Void?” H: “Yup.” A: “Annn…gulp…and…it…it stared back?” H: “Yup.” A: And then…and then…what…WHAT HAPPENED?” The Human stared at the Alien researcher…who shrank back in terror as the Human grinned, leaned forward and whispered… “I LIKED IT!”

Story 1: A nice little story about what's important in life. Story 2: Cut off all contact? A bit overdramatic, ain't she? Xeno: "You stare into the Void!" Human: "Yeah, so? Don't you?" Xeno: "No! It drives anyone who does it completely and utterly mad! Insane! Psychotic! It warps their brains and causes dementia!" Human: "...Are you sure you're not talking about old age?" Xeno: "You're insane!" Human: "Dude, you're the one freaking out over nothing important." It's like the reverse of the 'Humans are Crazy' trope: turns out all the aliens are crazy and despite how mad we seem to each other humans are actually pretty sane. Which now that I think of it sounds kind of like a horror story if WE'RE the sanest species around.
@Warutteri
@Warutteri Жыл бұрын
What if it's more of a case of we're already so insane and learned to cope and function despite it that what drives all other alien species utterly insane either doesn't affect us at all or even sort of stabilises our minds slightly (which would be experienced as relaxing as the unconscious coping mechanisms we've built to keep from collapsing mentally can be relaxed a bit leading to our minds and brains not having to work so hard constantly) I say this because as someone who has struggled with mental health issues basically all my life but (at least nowadays)outwardly seems completely normal thanks to having built up a tolerance to depression and anxiety and a huge number of tools and coping skills to stay functional I know that people can learn to lead normal lives and even achieve a point where they don't have to consciously keep doing all their mental exercises and coping mechanisms as they become second nature and automatic responses to certain stimuli 🤔 Maybe humans could be able to teach the poor bug people some of these skills and help them develop their void jump tech further 😉

The second; "Beware of staring into the void, there may something that stares back. They call themselves humanity."
@SeedlingNL
@SeedlingNL Жыл бұрын
You could also look at it differently... there are entities in the void whose existance means death to all who witness them... until humans encountered them, and they impart their most chaotic thoughts onto the void entities, causing their demise instead. What the subject said about them coming was indeed about the humans.. but it was a message intended for other void entities.

Deep wisdom of ages past is so overlooked these days. Great thing about the wisdom of "survive, then thrive" is that it ALWAYS applies to one's current circumstances, it's just under layers of excess.

The first story is so powerful and poignant. I had already read the story on r/HFY but your narration made it even more powerful and real. Thanks for finding and narrating this story! The second story was cool. Carapaces? The protagonist isn't human so of course humans are the ominous weirdos who stare the abyss for relaxation. My headcanon is that the humans are pissed off for the sentien experiments. For the Algorithm! For the Authors! For the Narrator! For the Beard!

I started today's story time with an older narration that mentions not going quietly into that good night, the very next that the algorithm offered was this one. Since 2020 these narrations have helped me past the time, keep some semblance of sanity and even inspire on occasion. To the great and prolific SQUIRREL I offer my humble but sincere gratitude. The authors write but you breath life into the works. Thank you.

Better last sentence for the void story would have been. "THEY ARE HERE" more gravitas to the bad feeling. And it plays on the Alien who died saying they are coming.

Greetings Mentlegent For the Rhyhtm that is Algo Story 1: Okay...this *is* HFY. The core idea is sound, the presentation and execution fundamentally flawed. But HFY nonetheless. Story 2: Took me a minute to figure this one out. But we are Touched by the Void, so we are, like, Lovecraftian to them. Cool. HFY also, and better than the first story in execution.

Survive ? HA! We cannot survive without our toys. Loss of electricity for a prolonged period of time , will see the majority of industrial nations dead or dying. We are too specialised ,adapted for an electricity rich way of life. You take that away, we cannot survive.
