If you win Grand Prize, the AGT owns your face, every photo, voice, and penned signatures. If you win 2nd or 3rd, you are trapped. You have to wait until they give you the break, their priority is the Grand Winner. Even if you want to go ahead with your career, you can't because you are under contract and they still own you. Changing your name legally won't help. Long ago I was called to sign a contract as a Songwriter with a prominent record label. After reading the biased contract I didn't sign up. They own your time and pressure you to write some songs that are not even reflecting your personality. One sure way to have freedom doing your own stuff is to finance your own music. So I kept my 60 original compositions until now, but pursued my other career as an Engineer. I'm investing on music recording equipment to record these songs with my own chosen collaborators and publish them as independent music someday.

This humble man with such a beautiful voice is 55, so to receive his well-earned million as mentioned in this video, he has to live until the age of 95 because he'll only get $25,000 a year (minus taxes). Granted, for Mr. Goodall, given his job and background, this will give him added financial stability. But that's not the point, is it? I am more than deeply disappointed and disgusted by this fraudulent representation presented to all AGT fans . I agree with you. I am sure contestants are aware. Even with AGT making a percentage of future earnings, the contestants still do pretty good. Considering Richard's age, he should take the 3 or $400,000., and will make some more money performing, maybe records etc. Kelley Clarkson seems to be doing well. There's others. The contract has to end sometime and in the meantime, you'll be meeting people that you need to know. Calm down people! Of course AGT is making money! They aren't doing this for charity but these people wouldn't have the opportunity they now have. You need to look at both sides of this.

There shouod be different categories for age groups so each winner can get the total amounts or lump sum, say 50 years old gets a lump sum with no strings attached or even at 40. The lump sum over 40 years should be at ages 20 to 40

Basically to me, it appears that this is FALSE ADVERTISING and that is not allowed on this side (EU) of the Atlantic! On BGT the top prize appears to be £250K! I imagine the winner gets the lump sum. That's how the industry works. You basically sign your rights away. They even get permission in these contracts when you sign them, (even just to audition), to use your likeness or anything else they like about you for their purposes - whether it is for you - or if they take something about you, and apply it and put it to use on/for someone else they want to market. They control how you look (your image) etc. That's why most with music talents these days market themselves - to avoid contracts.

I really love AGT, but after hearing this explanation of what really happens makes me sick 1. Why is it an annuity for 40 Years? Thats insane 2. Everyone should get 1 millon dollars ( with taxes and stuff already taken out !) so make the Shows winner $125 millon 3 the annuity Only works for the younger contestants, like Grace Vanderwal, Darcy Lynn. If i was Richard, i would take the lump sum, ( i am really bad at technology and how it works, But i would set up a Go Fund Me Page for Richard) to raise 1+million dollars ( so when taxes are taken out he still gets paid the full million in one lump sum !
