It was only a matter of time before a large distributor started fabricating them cheap en masse, in this case Thomann. You probably won't ever see guitars of this level of quality sold for this cheap for another decade or so. Right now there are no competitors for them in North America or Asia, but unless Thomann expands into those markets the gap will eventually be filled to eliminate shipping expenses.

Just to be clear - there is a shot in this video of the back of the vibrato that shows a bolt or screw, except it isn't the grub screw that sets the friction on the vibrato arm. That grub screw is on the back of the inertia block under the point where the arm pushes in. You need to be looking at the top of the guitar towards the neck. Insert the arm and dump it. The very small hex grub screw should be visible in the back of the block just under the top plate of the bridge. Although the guitar ships with the vibrato springs tightened so you can only do down bends it can easily be set to float by slackening the spring tension. Once you do that there is a design flaw that becomes apparent. The Wilkinson 6 screw vibrato bridge (or tremolo if you must) is designed to pivot against a flat guitar top. The factory making the CST-24T has continued the curve of the top carve all the way under the bridge. As result not only does it pivot front to back, but it can also tilt from side to side, which affects the tuning stability. This can easily be fixed (and the friction typical of this type of bridge reduced) by removing the two outside pivot screws, fitting a small brass washer under either end of the bridge plate and then replacing the screws passing through the plate and then the washers. As a result the plate is stable, resting on a washer at either end and the length of the plate in between sits slightly above the curve of the guitar body. With these washers inserted the vibrato should perform extremely well. Mine is very stable and always returns to pitch. This washer trick can be used on any six screw vibrato bridge, even when the guitar it is fitted to has a flat body.

you just have to loosen the screws that hold the 3 springs in the back of the guitar. the bridge will come up. After that it works in both ways. To fasten the Tremoloarm you have to push the Tremolo down an look unter the upcoming bridge from behind. There you will find a Hex-screw where you are able to tighten the Arm.

Hi Agufish. The tremolo-arm is probably locked in by a little hex screw under the bridge. What you do is put in the arm and push down. If you look under the bridge from behind you'll see the tiny screw. It's a pretty common way of locking down a trem arm these days. I think most strat style bridges have it now, even fender.

I have a 1980's Japanese strat with the system 1 trem made by Schaller and it has the locking mechanism for the trem arm just like you described and it is the best trem I've ever used because it stays in tune no matter what abuse you subject it to, which makes it the best trem ever, Schaller should reissue this along with fender because the system 1 tremolo is far superior to anything made since, trust me !

One could just buy a used EC 256 lemon drop for under $200 and have a far superior guitar compared to this or the one you mentioned. Also those Ltd EC 256 are built side by side with the PRS import models and we all know those are great guitars so you could just buy the EC and be way ahead of the game only needing pickup's upgrade and still being under $400 way under ! I got my EC 256 used for under $200 and found used Gibson burst buckers for like $50 so there you have it. BTW this guitar he's playing sounds real good for under $200 !

"far superior", except not really. My two HB's have no issues keeping up with not just Viet/Chinese LTD's but my Korean Agile, Korean Epiphone Les Paul Custom and Korean LTD Viper 400. They both literally blow the fuck out of my old Schecter Omen Extreme (which now retails for about 650ish here, vs the HB's 200-300 with shipping and tax). I was expecting something close to that Schecter actually, but simply got way way more than expected. I actually highly suspect that the HB's are made in the very same factory that those Vietnamese LTD's are made in.

I also can't believe how some folks will buy a guitar for 2.500 dollars, take it to a custom shop, be charged 1.500 just to relic it and add their special touch, and put on the custom shop decal... I'm not sure if this is a new model of the CST-24, or perhaps just incorrect as he's content with this being used as a hardtail, but that's not how you screw the tremolo arm in.. For those interested, it's not a cross-head on the back of the bridge, its a hex screw on the side of the block, but on the front of the guitar (IKR-weird). To access it, I recommend taking off the back of the guitar so you can remove the middle spring to release the tension on the bridge. Flip the guitar over to face strings-up, place the bottom strap lock on your chin and look straight down the guitar as if you were checking the straightness of the neck, pop in the tremolo arm and bend the bridge down. You should see a hex screw the same size as the saddle screw on the right side of the block, just under the bridge on the right size, just in front of the tremolo arm. This took me a good 20 mins to work out last night that I will never get back. You are most welcome random internet person: pay it forward :)

Out of all my Harley Benton's I have which is a lot, the CST-24T was best out of the box experience. If you are a beginning student and need a rock solid guitar that plays well out of the box this is the one for you. It is heavy but should be good for learning. If you plan on stage time and you are more experienced move to the PRS SE Custom. I still ply on my CST-24 at home, but if I gig or go out I play my PRS 24 SE Custom 24-08 for extra tones. Plus it is a good pound and 1/2 lighter which is a big deal if you need to use it for a long time. In reference it is lighter than my US Pro Strat, which is crazy. I prefer the upper access on my PRS and CST compared to even my strat. But if you need quack you won't get it from the CST or the PRS. Only a Strat can do that. CST and PRS are much closer to the Gibson LP sound, heck yes it is way lighter then those, both PRS and CST don't weight 9 to 12 pounds. If you are old strat and PRS are the lighter for your back. Only thing lighter is the Ibenez Prestige S series which I don't own and they are like 4 or 5 pounds. I dream of one, but the 2000+ says hell no.

I just procured this guitar with flamed Cherry... The guitar is an incredible value! The quality outweighs many guitars that cost 2-3x the amount. It was set up well, intonation was bang on etc. I did lower the action slightly to match my other guitars... but arrived more than playable... Look and finish was excellent! I wondered about the pick ups and I was very surprised how the pick ups sounded with the JMP-1 preamp set up that I have... a little "dark" but the tone and volume pots work well to clean up the gain and tone as needed... For the price it is an incredible value...

If you have 200$ to spend on a guitar, you can get up to 300/350$! This guitar seems solid (I LOVE that carved for easy frets access) but for me this model needs changes: 1) Only ONE GOOD bridge pickup. Maybe a Seymour Duncan JB, very good on a mahogany body, classic, standard and not so expensive...or a P90. Basically, If you spend 200/300 $ you can't expect versatility so two pickups are wasted money 2) Better bridge (no tremolo or floyd rose systems) and maybe better nut For me it makes no sense to spend 200$ for a guitar and spend another 300$ for mods when (at that price) you can find a good, second hand PRS SE. Better starting from a guitar without versatility and details but with a good sound and a good feeling.

Samick Linda's go for ~280 ish USD used, and fit the bill- one bridge pickup and easy to mod (only need to purchase 1 pickup to upgrade), fixed bridge too. The stock pickup is comparable to guitars in the 400-800 range- very serviceable. Not a huge fan of the lower PRS pickups- so I'd realistically have to add another 150-180 ish bucks on top of the 500-600$ PRS. If you want the flatter radius, a cheaper guitar + mods is probably the way to go, especially if you know how to do the mods yourself.

This guitar to mod or a Holcomb SE? Opinions? Thoughts?
@agufish6 жыл бұрын
The Holcomb has some idiosyncrasies I just didn't vibe with. The fingerboard is stupid flat, and the Alpha/Omega pickups are incredibly treble-heavy.... but it is the better-made guitar. Personally, though, I'd go with the HB to mod more to what I like

LOL, Thomann policy seems to be to ship you your guitar, have the tip of the headstock chipped off in transit, then send you new one after you talk to them and tell you to keep the damaged one.....that's what happened to me and seems to have happened to you too. I got the Harley Benton CST-24 HB (a semi-hollow body version of this guitar). I really like it, but can't say I love it. Both of the ones I got needed to be set-up, intonation and string height need to be dealt them. The first (damaged one) had corroded strings and the frets on both benefited from a polish job. Still can't get the string height lowered to where I want it. I could on the damaged one, but not on the second one. Intonation is still a work in progress, mine has the hardtail wraparound bridge. Mine has the older Wilkinson pick-ups, they are actually the most disappointing part, just can't get a sound from them that I really like, will switch out eventually, these are just kind of blah. Overall, worth the money (especially if you get two for the price of one!) look great and, with a little work, a fun decent guitar. I am more then willing to get another Harley Benton, the guitars for the prices are enticing!

I have owned/still own 3 CSTs, not a single one had damaged headstocks. Same goes for most of other people from Europe, you rarely get to see chipped headstock or destroyed boxes. US on the other hand....

Dainius Vyšniauskas.....Yeah, I should have pointed out I was talking about guitars shipped to the USA, like mine was.

Oh my gosh, that vocal on "Sarassasstium"!!! I already got addicted to it after your demo song for the white Gibson SG . One of the most amazing voices I've ever heard, can you give us a link to the vocalist's page on social networks, please? Also, please do not stop collaborating with this artist, thank you!

Haha we've been meaning to record some more stuff together. Reese actually doesn't do the whole social media thing; we just used to be in a band together in university!
@OskarsArbidans6 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm her biggest fan now. I know only one more vocal of the same charm as Reese Findley's - it's Mara Lisenko of Karmafree, a band formed by her and her husband, Dmitry Lisenko, who is a quite famous musician right now due to his acoustic percussive bass technique. Anyway, I'm ready to buy anything you & Reese are going to record. Keep things up. Thanks a lot!

BTW, Corey Mura interviewed the Thomann guys about HB guitars. Thomann was saying that the Wilkinson pickups they were getting sent from China were not legit Wilkinson pickups. So they switch to Roswells.

Hey Hunter, if you can get your hands on a Hagstrom Fantomen, would you review it? I'm thinking about grabbing one in a couple months and there's only a couple reviews available. I'd like to see your analysis on one.

Hey man! Great review! You should review the new harley benton telecaster fanned fret 7 string for 2018! It looks killer and no one has done a review on that one! Cheers from Mexico!

I was looking at their website just now, and apparently these now come with black smith stainless steel frets 😯

Not sure on this model but when you depress the tremolo there should be a screw under bridge to tighten the arm.
@StevenChisham6 жыл бұрын
looks a lot like the 2017 Hamer guitars. The major differences are the single volume vs hamer's two volume knobs, the benton has a tremolo and the Hamer doesn't. As far as the look, vineer, and binding go, and I think even the magnet types on the pickups, this is like the 2017 hamer, only a quarter the price.
@philippeverneris89565 жыл бұрын
Plus, the HB cst-24t has a switch for single coil the two humbuckers (i guess the Hamer hasn't got one)...

Greetings from the UK! Great video. Did you get to try a Harley Benton XT-22 whilst at Thomann? Would love you to make a video on that model some time in the future. Cheers.
@IvanLjubesicljubax6 жыл бұрын
06:59 you need to lift up the bridge with the tremolo arm, and there is a small alen wrench screw to tighten it ;)

So nice to see they ditched the brush script font on the headstock for this one. I'm normally not too picky, but I can't handle that on other models.
