The Silver Jubilee has always been my favorite Marshall ever. It's was the only Marshall I ever plugged into that immediately sounded like a Marshall always sounded in my head. A Plexi, and especially a Super Lead Plexi, most people will never get the opportunity to play it loud enough to get the sound they hear on albums…or at least they never could before load boxes and IR cabs existed. If you're a Strat player that uses higher levels of gain, the darker and smoother character makes it the ideal Marshall. I've been building and working on amps for 15 years, and the only other amp I've played that I would choose over it would be a Soldano SLO 100, but at $4000 it's beyond most players reach.

With the EL34, i can have all of them sounding great at same time and i truly love it. Have been wanting this amp for years and i sold 2 guitars and an amp to get it, and it was well worth it. I was working at Guitar Center San Francisco and of course this store got the first of these amps available. This amp was widely disliked by Marshall enthusiasts at the time and was not a big seller. This was when a lot of metal players (Metallica amongst them) were frequently visiting the store. It had too much going on for some Marshall fans and many could not get a sound they liked. The truth is that they really weren't very open-minded about it and likely didn't give it much of a chance. I liked it right away but, in those days, I wasn't into Marshalls at all. Here is my problem with the Jubilee (which I owned at one point): it is not a traditional two-channel amp. It has two channels, yes, but you can not max out both channels for a totally clean, totally saturated tone. You can set it up so you have low-gain and mid-gain, or no-gain to low-gain, but you can not go from clean to fully distorted. To do that, you'd have to mod it or use pedals... so it's pretty much a one-trick pony. This is ultimately why I got rid of it. There was a time when distortion only came from amps, but that time passed long ago. Now we have pedals that sound just as good, so it makes much more sense to get a clean amp like a Twin and go that route. You can do so much more with it, and you're not confined to one tone. And if THAT isn't enough, we even have virtual amps... although I hate them lol.
@mattchurchill5 ай бұрын
You made some good points there man. I'm forever trying to decide if I prefer my jube or my Twin with pedals. The Twin is definitely a more versatile rig (even if it is an absolute bitch to move around😂)

Indeed getting the two channels uniform is hard. But it has in spades the best eq, great effects loop and amazing bloom when pushed, accepts pedals really well and cleans up nicely when you lower the guitar volume. It is to me an awesome JCM 800 with more gain, better EQ section and an effects loop.

I had a JCM 800 20w and a 2525 20w, I sold both to buy a JCM 800 2203. The JCM 800 2203 is the Marshall sound (with the 1959). The JCM is way nastier than the silver jubilee . With a SD1 in front, nothing can compare to a JCM 800. Maybe one day I’ll buy a 100w silver jubilee because they are very cheap here in Europe (1200€) compare to the US. But if you want the Marshall sound you need a JCM 800 or a Plexi first.

As so many of us, all my life I have been looking for the perfect sound. I have found it in the combination of a standard strat and a black jubilee 2550 (Marshall made the silver jubilee for 1,5 years longer, but in a black housing). The reissue does come close. I think the difference must have to do with the transformers because the circuitry is exactly the same. I played my original next to the reissue and yes, there is a difference. As the originals are very hard to find (in a good condition), the reissue is in my opinion the 2nd best amp Marshall ever made.

Hey man, such a nice amp congrats!! Can you link the storage racks you are using for your amp heads behind you?? I am looking to do a similar setup, but struggling to find the right size. Thanks!!
