With a decent stock this would be a nice looking rifle. The stock that it comes with is a rather odd with a crude cut out for the bolt handle, it's actually a stock for a different model that was adapted to the NS522.

I have shot about 500 rounds of this ammo. Initially I used a Savage bolt action [~150 rounds], in which I achieve similar results as yours. I then switched to a Ruger 10/22 with a 10% "relaxed" bolt spring. It cycled flawlessly [to my surprise] and achieved slightly wider groups [~ rounds]. I then retrofitted the 10/22 with a 1:9 twist barrel by Green Mountain. Any appearance of unstable flight disappeared. I had previously modified this 10/22 to "lock" the bolt in places, i.e. not to cycle. To my amazement, the groups at 75 yards fell into the

Shoots great in my Norinco JW-15 with 1-14 twist barrel or Ruger 10-22 with 1-14 twist replacement heavy barrel. Key holes from my 1-16 twist 22's, so it needs a faster twist barrel to shoot well. Special 1-9 twist barrels are available for the 10-22, don't know how well that would shoot standard 22 ammo. The 1-14 twist barrels shoot all my 22 ammo well, so that may be the best compromise.

I use this stuff to take the smaller hogs up to 40-50 lbs that I raise on my property. Also use it for raccoons/opossums. It cycles in my smith & Wesson 15-22 very well, very quiet. These bullets penetrate very deeply, have a lot of sectional density, don't be concerned with the velocity. I had one do a pass through on one hog and clip another in the leg and passed through the others leg as well. Penetrates 1" plywood. I stopped at that point with testing it on wood. Yes, if I had to ,meaning I had no other option, I would use these for self-defense due to the amount of penetration over a higher velocity .22 round.

I guess that's the sense behind this Ammo: being subsonic (for supressors) but anyway have 50% more impact power than other 40 gris standard velocity ammo. Tht penetration factor is very interresting! I have not much experience with that, (because I'm shoting sportive, not for hunting) and I never really thought about that... Imagine we compare 3 different .22LR's in 60gris, 40gris and 20 gris in ballistic gel. Imagine further their powder (velocity) is set excatly in the level, that they all have the same impact power to the target. In first I would think that they all penetrate to the same deepth, because they all have the same power and diameter. BUT... "Speed" is squared in the calculation of impact power - and the lighter bullet looses his speed faster than the heavier one. That means: If they all have the same power, the heavier (but slower) projectile penetrates way deeper (squared function!) than the lighter (but faster) one does. Is that correct?

I built a rifle specifically for this round based on the Volquartsen Summit action with a Pike Arms 1:9 twist barrel. I regularly shoot 1" groups at 50 yards, 2 MOA, using a 1 MOA red dot sight. After giving the chamber a light polish to eliminate some initial extraction problems, it has performed flawlessly with no misfires or malfunctions in over 3000 rounds. Shooting into a soft clay backstop at 5' the this bullet expands to almost double its diameter. I am very happy with the rifle and the ammo but wish there was a little more ballistic information out there.

@@314299 There are no adverse effects of using lighter and faster bullets through the 1:9 twist barrel. The point of impact is different and the group sizes vary but that's to be expected. Tipped with a Sparrow 22 suppressor, this is a deadly small game rifle, light accurate, and almost undetectable at 15 feet.

I have had this ammo and shot through several rifles ( never a pistol). For me it was stable dependent on the twist of your barrel. As the video showed, 25 yards and closer it was dead on. I have taken squirrels out to 50 yards with it out of my Mossberg " Plinkster". Would I use it for Self- Defense? If it was all I had, yes! Wouldn't be in my starting (5). Excellent Video! Very honest opinion. The barrel twist does make a BIG difference in performance though.

I highly doubt they are powerful enough to cycle a .22 auto, including an AR-15 .22 conversion kit. Most .22 auto's require high velocity ammo and will not run properly with standard velocity ammo. However the only way to know for sure is to try them for yourself.

I use these exclusively in my conversion. As far as them not being stout enough to cycle a semi auto... The heavy bullet actually creates more back pressure. The Same can be said for the 1in9 twist barrels... The faster the twist, 1in9 as apposed to 1in16 (almost twice the rate), the more back pressure. Not to mention these 60gr only truly stabilize in 1in9 twist barrels. If you think your standard 22lr barrel is stabilizing these then shoot them at 100yd & beyond... They will almost certainly be keyholeing.

I expect the accuracy will degrade over 'long' (relatively for .22LR) distances...the standard twist for .22 LR is 1 in 16...not the 1 in 9 used to stabilize the standard 62 grain 5.56 NATO round...

I'd love to get a 1:9 twist 28" barrel for my Mossberg LSA 144. The standard barrel will do under one inch at 100 yards, but my AR15 with CMMG .22 LR conversion kite can hit 1.5" circle at 50 yards and 12 shots every 10 seconds - better than with lighter bullets. Precision bolt action with fast twist and a silencer would be an amazing head shot weapon. An SSS 60 bullet drilled 5/6" deep with a 3/32 h drill filled with Vaseline and capped with wax plug turns obliterated a wet compressed roll of toilet paper.

It *appears* this ammo has about the same OMMPH as a 22 SHORT. So, it will not cycle any 22 I have that is semi-auto. But in the Revolvers and other manual actions, it "works well" shooting at a paper target. I don't "hunt" but I live on a farm and this is good for getting rid of a nuisance Skunk that is trying to live too close to me. You know, a couple of people have told me this stuff was popular with some people for MURDERS!! You know, low noise, and a 60 grain bullet shot up close, I guess it would be good for that LMAO. I don't want to be in THAT racket. So far ANYTHING I have tried that says Aguilla on it has been MORE than satisfactory. It is good stuff, BB

By way of energy the SSS load with it's 60 grain bullet at 908 fps gives about 110 foot pounds of energy compared to a 29 grain standard velocity shorts at 830 fps which has about 44 foot pounds and the 29 grain high velocity short at 1095 giving 77 foot pounds of energy. Not hard to see which one would be better on a rather solid critter like a skunk.

Looks like the lower twist rate of that barrel isn't able to stabilize the bullets at those longer distances. Makes sense considering most 22lr is 40gr out of 1:10 to 1:15 twist barrels. I'm going to get some of this for my CMMG conversion kit for my AR rifle and pistol because they have 1:8 and 1:7 twist rates respectively. This ammo should stabilize pretty well in those twist rates since I normally shoot 62gr 556 through both. I'll be interested to see how the cycling works, I don't tend to get extraction issues on the pistol. Thank you for the review and showing your results! Looked like a nice day at the range.

Standard factory made 22 LR barrels are generally 1 in 16" twist. Yes, I realize there are some exceptions to this but the vast majority of 22 rifles and pistols that have been made over the years. No doubt a faster twist will lead to somewhat better performance with the SSS load. When it comes to AR conversion kits I have found them to be poor performers in regards to accuracy as there is an enormous amount of "free bore" from the conversion insert to the actual barrel of the 223/556 firearm. The best systems use a dedicated 22LR upper/barrel, for one of those a 1-9" barrel would be nice and should allow decent accuracy with most 22 ammo.

I have tested them too. They don't like every barrel. (I guess it depends on the twist rate) Shot from my 70's Austrian made Voere biathlon training rifle (Model 1007, 16,5" barrel, bolt action), they're very precise at 25 and 50 meters, similar or maybe a tiny bit better to Your results. But shot out of my Ruger 10/22 (Model Target, w/ hammered 20" x 1" bull barrel) they're unprecise (groups 4" or more) and some are keyholing on 50 meters. But in both my rifles, they feed and extract way better. Not 100%, but way better.

The NS522 used in the video has the standard one in sixteen twist rate, so I wonder if the extra length of the barrel is what matters. Lots of people report poor performance in the 10/22 with standard barrel that is 18.5" long whereas the NS522 has a 21" barrel. As for extraction, this particular rifle has always has extraction issues so I dont blame that on the ammo.

The big advantage to this ammo is that it is very low noise but still having decent power (for a 22 rimfire) due to the heavy bullet. The weight extra weight of the bullet makes up to some degree for the low velocity, this ensures decent penetration. Uses include pest control at short range where noise would be a concern. Disadvantages include shorter range and the fast drop of the bullet at distance.

I'd be curious if they used stock-length cases, with that huge bullet, ignored the cartridge OAL requirement for mag length (so no putting it in mags like in a ruger 10/22 or your norinco) -- basically requiring single feeding (or beign restricted to bolt guns) what sort of velocities could be achieved and how it would effective accuracy. might make a good option for something like a rough rider too. maybe dub it the "22 Long-ER rifle" lol since 22 mag is already taken...

@@314299 Out of a rifle they are quiet, that you can bet your hat on. Most people just test for noise and that is getting old, but few test for accuracy. Forget the noise test. All of the low budget decibel meters are no good for rifle noise testing anyway, you need really professional equipment for that. The average .22 rifle report at 150 to to 165 dB with sub-sonic and HV, check if your meter reach that. If it is a budget meter it will not. Are the Quiet ammo accurate? That is the question. Low noise and hitting power is nothing without accuracy. It seems with some rifles they are accurate up to 25 meter but at 50 meter with most rifles the grouping fall apart. The few that was tested anyway. You should try 25 and 50 meter (or yard) for accuracy.
