We feel very proud and honored in El Salvador since Master Mangoré taught and lived his last years here. I studied plastic arts (paint)at CENAR (National Art Center of E.S.)back in 1990 and many of my classmates had to learn some of Mangore's master pieces so they could graduate from the classical guitar specialty. That means that we have a few skillful guitarrists around here but as unfortunately usual they have no opportunity since there's no support coming from any way.

well a raised fingerboard has it slightly elevated. Making the higher octave register a lot easier because it has more ground for your thumb to anchor upon. It helps with the high notes, 3 octave scaling, etc.

What are the results of a raised fingerboard, why would one use it?
@keman2514 жыл бұрын
@falafel1100 That is true, but wouldn't Barrios have played it differently if the piece was meant to be played differently? He was a great guitarist and he probably had the technical skills to do so. After all, if there's a "correct" way to play a piece (I don't think there is one), it's probably its composer the one who knows how, isn't it? (I am not saying that David Russel's version is bad - it's actually one of my favourite interpretations of this piece!)

Muy buena versión de este vals N° 3 por parte de Russell. Como todas las obras de Barrios, para interpretarlas se debe ser un guitarrista consumado, de lo contrario no es posible dar con lo que el autor Barrios concibió.

Actually the fingerboard hasn't been raised so much as the top has been lowered, exposing more of the next and fingerboard. It's kind of misleading that they call it a "raised fingerboard" but oh well.

@falafel1100 I deeply admire Barrios playing style ( /watch?v=le0shPMLffY ). Although it's very unconventional and simple,it carries a lot of emotion. I think that with his performances he was able to deliver the emotions he wanted.His version and the one by David Russel are my favourite. Besides,have you ever heard of Berta Rojas? Her way of playing Barrios is absolutely brilliant ( /watch?v=jt4-Mvbc3NI ). And yes,I study guitar at the music university, although I haven't played this piece yet.

I don't know how you guys can judge his tone from the awful sound quality in this recording. That being said, I am a big fan of Julian Bream due to his excellent tone control. Russell, Parkening and John Williams are all brilliant players, but when it comes to tone Bream is king.

I would just like to say that mull99 has no idea as to what he's talking about. Also I have sat in on a master class with Russell and seen him live, and I have no idea what you mean when you say he has a 'metallic' tone.
@Tongdee20 күн бұрын
Children,,, please. I have a metalic tone... ... ... sometimes... ... ... & sometimes cello like wooden tone. When I am at the Top Of "MY" Game... I control it, other times I don't have a clue where whatever tone comes from. We all have different tastes, excepting those that have exactly the same DNA... There are many "RIGHT" ways to play this piece. David Russel,,, on planet earth,,, on the classical guitar???Yes I have heard him play Live in concert and sat 2 meters from Him Giving masterclasses, including Chinawat Temkunkwun ... Mull99???? Critisizing David Russels Tone ????? AAAAAhhh Whom is Mull??? and Who Cares??? I don't see his ((99.999% probably fake) name on any upcoming concerts I would fly internationally to attend. I have 4 Classical guitars to restring 3 with Savarez 1 with hannabachs. And a couple Ramirez with bad intonation replace nut and saddles

Jitpring, please don't lecture me about the art of the classical guitar, I play that instrument for 28 years on a row. Russell's sound is notoriously metallic and that is due to his long nails. It is harder to play guitar with shorter nails, a combination between a nail and finger flesh.

Russel is a outstanding player, however, I personally don't enjoy that much the sound of guitar produced by long nails. Unfortunately, Russel has long nails. Shorter nails leaving some room for flesh too, would give warm and mellow sound, especially for this Barrios Vals #3 tune.
