I've listened to many performances of this piece and I must say this performance is the cleanest. The tone in the first movement is heavenly.

It's amusing watching people give "constructive criticism", considering this video was recorded in the late 70s, early 80s, and it's by Shinichi Fukuda, an accomplished japanese guitarist.

After listening to classical guitar all my life, I thought I have heard the best music and performance already. But not until I heard this one and played by this guitarist. It is a sound beyond this existing space.

La Catedral IMO is Barrios' best accomplishment. As a guitarist, when you think of Barrios you automatically think of La Catedral. This piece has withstood the test of time and will continue to withstand the test of time. I personally feel La Catedral is one of the best, if not the best, pieces for the classical guitar. I myself have played this piece and it was a milestone for me to just learn it and play it decently. The piece requires most, if not all, the elements of guitar playing.
@RunningJuan14 жыл бұрын
BEST version on La Catedral. But that's might be my problem, I bought his CD recorded this piece, I guess the emotion is totally different from playing in the video in old time. How lucky that this moment was kept.

Certainly, Fukuda's work is not that well-distributed in the US. But he is definitely on the top echelon as a classical guitar performer by just seeing this performance.

Every guitar player in the world can improve. And the good thing about classical guitar and players like the one in this video is you know that they are working. The problem is that there are a lot of annoying guitarist who feel that they need to give a master class in each video, just because they can play and "know" about music. Offering they're criticisms and opinions as if the players in the videos aren't receiving it from the teachers...

Judged by the quality of this video and the player's name, I am guessing he lives in Vietnam. One has to admire someone who may not have the resources we have, such as a good teacher and insturement, and still play so beautifully. I hope you can read English, Mr. Lam, because you are a gifted player and I hope more people will discover your talents.

This video inspired me a lot when I was first playing the guitar years ago. For me the tempo of the 3rd movement is nice and even, unlike some others who rush the beginning and slow down in the scales. John Williams plays with even steadier tempo but slower. Btw, the performer is a top notched japanese pro. I got a chance to listen to Fukuda live. He was wonderful.

I was just a child when the stars fell from the skies, but I remember how we built a cannon to destroy them, and in turn, how that cannon brought war upon us. War was an abstract idea, nothing more than a show on TV. As a child, I always saw it as happening on some faraway land, until on that final day of summer.
