Hey y'all! As the LPGA Tour's second-to-last major championship kicks off, three players made the most of the morning's ideal conditions to share the lead at The Amundi Evian Championship on Thursday. Seasoned major winner Patty Tavatanakit, LPGA Tour victor Gemma Dryburgh, and newly minted professional Ingrid Lindblad all posted impressive 7-under 64s, tying for the top position on the leaderboard. Tavatanakit set the early pace, beginning her round on the 10th hole and recording five birdies in her first nine holes, carding an outward 31.
“I always relish returning here. It's consistently pleasant, the weather superb. It can get a bit warm, but overall, I feel more at ease with my game this year compared to last,” remarked Tavatanakit, whose 64 marks her lowest round on Tour since the 2023 ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. “I have so many fond memories from last year, even though I didn’t feel as comfortable then. This year, it feels almost liberating.”

Tavatanakit has already secured three top-10 finishes this season, including a triumph in her homeland at the Honda LPGA Thailand, a few years after capturing her first title at the 2021 Chevron Championship.

In just a month since turning professional, Lindblad has made quite the impression. She turned pro in June after a stellar amateur career. In 2024 alone, she garnered accolades like the ANNIKA Award and the Inkster Award, while also securing 15 individual titles at Louisiana State University. As the former No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, she topped the Qualifying (Stage II) of the 2023 LPGA Q-Series, earning her place on the Epson Tour. Competing primarily on this tour, she has already achieved a top-25 finish and a second-place standing in three events. Now, at 24, after her first bogey-free round on the LPGA Tour, she’s eager to capitalize on her sponsor invitations.
“The weather’s been fantastic, which is a huge plus. I kept reminding myself, even if the game isn’t going great, just take in the beautiful lake views. The scenery is gorgeous and the course is in pristine shape,” remarked Lindblad, currently ranked No. 581 in the Rolex Rankings. “The greens were a bit softer today, which probably helped with the scores, but once they firm up, things will get more interesting.”
"I believe many of the players here have had multiple outings at this venue. This marks my third attempt playing it as a major, having previously participated in the qualifier some years ago. Familiarity with the course undoubtedly provides an edge," remarked Dryburgh, who is accompanied by her putting coach, Nick Soto, at the Evian Resort Golf Club. "My caddie, on his seventh visit here, brings invaluable experience, aiding in strategic play and optimal putting."
Six competitors are currently tied for fourth at 6-under, including 2014 Amundi Evian victor Hyo Joo Kim, who achieved seven birdies and a lone bogey on the 12th hole, leaving her just one shot behind the leaders. Also tied for fourth is the 2015 champion, Lydia Ko, following her impressive 65 on Thursday. This marks Ko's 11th appearance in this major, and a victory on Sunday could propel her beyond the 27 points required for induction into the LPGA Hall of Fame. Her recent win at the 2024 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions earned her the 26th Hall of Fame point.
Five players share the 10th spot at 5-under, including LPGA Tour champions Haeran Ryu and Madelene Sagstrom. Defending champion Celine Boutier and Rolex Rankings No. 1 Nelly Korda are tied for 21st at 2-under. Melanie Green, the latest American to clinch the Women’s Amateur Championship since 1996, stands as the top amateur, also at 2-under after 18 holes.
