I have this throne and the bicycle-style one and after a few years of using them I think all thrones should have the spine split. I don't even want to use a throne without it ... ever. I had a lower back issue that would appear here and there for many years and these thrones have almost solved the problem completely. Any time I sit on a normal throne now I can't believe how much pressure I feel on my lower back, and I have to take breaks way more often. I highly recommend these thrones. I got the bicycle one first, which is super comfortable, but after a while I wanted to go back to the more balanced feeling of a flat, round throne, so I got the round one and it's been great. I found it surprisingly firm/hard at first but I've already broken it in pretty well and it's pretty comfortable. Funny you mention the not-turning thing... I actually have a little issue with the new throne turning when I don't want it to. If I clamp down the seat top really tight it's usually fine though. I don't remember having that problem with the bicycle one, and I noticed that the seat top fastener part on that one is a little different. I guess they've changed that part on the newer ones. Anyway, that's my only criticism and I can usually get it to stay in place.

Hi! How long did it take to break in? I find it quite firm and I feel it in my seat bones. Granted, it's very new, and I just had like one proper practice session on it.

@777malkavian I haven’t noticed the firmness changing. It’s just right, in my opinion. The foam is soft enough but not too soft that it’s compressed too much. I personally really like the feeling of sitting *on* a throne and not sinking into it. My posture is better and my legs are more free. Having said that, the Ahead is definitely softer than a DW or Roc N Soc.

I actually just sat on it now :) ...it still feels pretty firm actually, but not uncomfortable at all. But yeah I think that firmness was a little more intense when it was brand new. Probably eased up a bit after a couple months or so. @@777malkavian

They are nice thrones but my preferred preference is The Rock-N-Soc round I have had two back surgeries and that's the one that works the best for me but I do suggest everyone try at least both of them out see which one you prefer really you can't go wrong with either one the Carmichael throne is a good one too but way expensive great video thanks!

I have both too, I wish the ahead was just a lil less soft. I sink into it a bit too much and I think it makes a lil more energy to move legs. Just a touch firmer and the ahead would prob take the win. Also I don’t have the back rest for the ahead and they do not sell it separately which is bad business imo. I’m not going to buy another whole throne with the back rest for 300 bucks when I already bought the model without it before the back rest was available. I bought the roc n Soc back rest separately and that’s what ended me with roc n soc.

@@larrytate1657 trust me you don't want the back rest it will just make your back weaker in the long run you need to rely on your torso.

I’ve had it for years now no issues. I don’t use while I’m actually playing, I only Lean on it when I’m taking a break searching something on my iPad. Whenever I play I’m off it. I also workout at the gym 5 days a week so and work a physical day job so….

Excellent review mate. I’ve been having lower back and thigh issues for a while now and I’m hoping this throne can help alleviate them. Placed my order today.

I don't understand the comment starting at 4:00 about a rotating seat rotating to the left when you play a fill to the right putting strain on the back because the back is compensating. My seat rotates to wherever I go it doesn't try and go the opposite direction. Can you explain or anyone? thanks

He explained it in the video, he doesn't like thrones that turn/rotate. He likes them to be solid and locked down.

When you have a throne with a top that rotates freely and you have 2 floor toms and play a fill all the way to the second floor tom, your throne top will rotate the opposite direction when you are trying to rotate your torso to the right. The strain you unconsciously put on your back to keep the throne top steady is a total killer.

I love my Ahead throne! Can play for hours without pain. So comfortable. Pretty pricey for a seat but worth it.

Thanks for watching! Roc N Soc are quality thrones and built like a tank but as I explained in this video, on their pneumatic type thrones you can't lock the top and it's always rotating. Your lower back muscles are constantly working to keep you stable and straight and that can really cause lower back issues eventually. Also, their tops do not have a vice clamp so they are a little more prone to wobbling although their clamps are pretty heavy duty. I did a video about the Superstar kit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZWXlYyAlsidebs

I want one but wondering, round vs saddle? Im looking to relieve mild sciatica and up my double bass game for metal. Wondering if the round will be less restrictive and better for what i want to do

Thanks for the review! I am considering buying one with saddle shaped seat. They look nicely and sturdy made. I guess saddle shape seat is more ergonomic and natural than round seat. I use Sonor 600 series throne for years but seat is turning and it is annoying...

They do indeed. As opposed to regular throne tops, the two sides don’t affect each other. So when leaning more to one side, the filling or air doesn’t get pushed up on other side. These thrones feel much more solid in that sense.
