I bought one of these after testing an evo 10 and an m3 and the tts feels wayyyyy more composed at speed around a corner, it is incredible. Looks excellent on the outside and the interior is the best at this price point without a doubt. Build quality is great but the rear seats are for small children or midgets. Buy one. Theyre great.

This is an amazing car! I drove the Porche Boxster & Cayman before buying the TTS last year, weeks after it came on the market and from the moment I sat in and started her up I knew I'd made the right decision. I'm a mechanical engineer working freelance for AutoSport, the main car magazine in Portugal (belonging to the main European car magazine group). I know quite a lot about VW, BMW and Mercedes cars. Statistically, what you're saying doesn't make sense. You might have picked some lemons, yes, but that doesn't make German cars unreliable. Besides, "constant engine failures and mechanical problems of all sorts" isn't exactly a thorough insight on what might have gone wrong, is it?

kudos to audi for giving the TT respectable performance. 45,000 USD seems a little steep for performance you can get in a WRX at about half that price, though.
@Illmatic66214 жыл бұрын
@ulcerprone True, however you have to deal with the dumpster interior, uglier styling, worse fuel efficiency, worse warranty, and you lose the prestige. I like the WRX, but if I had a choice, I would easily go with the TT-S I live in Florida and have barely seen any out here.

At the same time, Honda has one in every 344,first place

in reliability survey published March 2013. Out of 100 different car makers, Honda is first, BMW in the first 20, same as Mercedes and Vw is somewhere around 60th. Judging from my experience, my family and my friends who also had Vws or BMWs, German cars are anything else but reliable. One of my closest friends bought a TT 2.0 Tfsi, he sold it after 28 months and bought a RCZ because he couldn't stand spending a week every two months driving a replace Polo, while TT was being repaired...

Oh, 26.000 cars are being recalled in Australia for dsg problems that have already resulted in the death of several driver because of loss of power during acceleration. Another 14.000 with turbo malfunctions in China. Is this the image a serious company wants? Ridiculous, that's what they are. And Vw is NOT a status car, it's a twin charged shopping trolley and not a well built. P.S. During the last years I had to put out the fire in 17 different Vws. Reeeealy sucks my friend...

BMW 520i, Audi A6 2.0, Audi A3 1.8 turbo, VW Golf 1.6, Vw Golf Tsi 140 hp, Mercedes E 230. All these cars have been in my family and they did NOT worth the money spent for them.Constant engine failures, mechanical problems of all sorts, expensive interior upholstery with a life span of 2 to 4 years max,then it turned to something like melting chewing gum. Well that doesn't apply to my case then.I am a professional driver, I drive my cars in a normal way, I maintain them on time and only with original parts,I do the basic checks every three or four days, so that's not the case here. Judging from fora I've been for many years and after discussing extensively with other owners, after having two close relatives as chief engineers to two central dealers, Audi and BMW, I stand by my argument, German cars are ok IF the prize was half of what they ask.

Did VW/Audi pay you to complement their DSG/S-Tronic? Because this transmission is full of faults, it is not reliable at all and costs a fortune to fix If you are buying a TTS Just stick with the manual gearbox to be in the safe side and don't listen to what he says about a second or a bit more difference in performance! Get a manual shift gearbox better than staying in the dealers shop.

I may consider a used 2013 TTS, so what are clues that a potential problem is lurking?

I was a "manual gearbox enthusiast fan" but i have to admit the S Tronic is far better, more comfortable, smarter to change gear and defitely a best choice and very fun to drive! And it's not full of faults!! It is a really good choice and it's very reliable and free of problems.
