Fun fact, and something I didn’t think about/notice till just now. The fight between Shin and Sabine in the first episode of Ahsoka was the first live action lightsaber fight between 2 women. Also, I never felt there was anything romantically going on between Ezra and Sabine, besides Ezra flirting with her when he first met her. That’s why I’m in the Sabine and Shin shipping camp, which would also be the first gay/lesbian couple on screen in star wars, and makes sense for those 2 characters, cause they’re both not very “girly”, and if Thrawn ends up killing Baylan for actually not killing Ahsoka off, Shin could very likely join Sabine and Ezra to get revenge on Thrawn, and/or continue Baylan’s cause in some way, depending on what that ends up being. And Sabine and Shin both have that rebelish, stubborn, and dark tendency nature, the latter Shin more than Sabine of course, so I think they could compliment each other well, learning a lot together and from each other. I don’t know if Dave would go there, but I’d love to see it, not for the sake of representation at all, which I don’t care about, but because it could actually make sense for the characters and the story.

The "Sabine Wren will have the opportunity of Ezra Bridger, just as promised..." was absolute perfection. Right in the same vein as "Now that I have your attention, know this - whatever you build here, you will test personally." and in the original trilogy when he executes an officer for playing a flight simulator during shift but only after having his piloting abilities assessed.

Baylan is definitely the most intriguing character in the series. And now that something is calling to him, something possibly much more powerful has me completely stumped and excited. Also love that we also got to see Shin finally show a little more emotion. She went from straight up all obeying killer to what looked like a lost little girl longing for some kind of purpose and being intrigued about the Jedi. Wish we had more episodes. 2 episodes isn’t enough I want more! And yes every episode it gets better and better

I feel like Shin feels a longing for a real connection and since Sabine is so far the only one apart from her master and Ashoka it makes sense why she is always looking and trying to be close to her, I feel she is also a bit fascinated with her but the tension between them is really amazing love them.

Baylan and Shin are such cool characters and I can’t wait to see what else will be revealed about them in the series! Your insight about Shin wanting to be a true Jedi is pretty fascinating and not something I had considered myself as I saw her more as Sith-leaning (especially when compared to Baylan). But yet, she does also have a sense of honor as she’s clearly not super comfortable with potentially having to break Baylan’s promise to Sabine so I do wonder if her staring at Sabine is her trying to establish a connection rather than antagonizing her. All in all just very fascinating characters and an awesome episode!

After 30 years, the Heir to the Empire himself has been seen on screen in the flesh. It honestly is so surreal to me as someone who’s read both the HTTE trilogy, as well as Zahn’s canon novels (which are arguably even better than HTTE imo). That was one of the coldest entrances I’ve EVER seen in Star Wars 🔥🔥🔥. Even for those that haven’t watched Rebels or read the novels, I think this episode did a good job at starting to solidify not only why he is feared, but also how different he is from most Star Wars villains

There has been some discussion about Lars Mikkelsen being too old for his role and looking a bit fat, but truth of the matter is that he is 59, while Thrawn would be in his mid-late 60's at this point in the time-line, so if anything, they have aged Mikkelsen to make him look a bit older and less fit than he really is ( if you look at recent pictures of Mikkelsen). Not to forget that this role is all about the voice and acting, and not about physical strength and fitness.

I love the relationship between Hatti and baylan so far. A master/apprentice relationship that looks like the Jedi but not bound by the Jedi code. Hatti is confortable asking what she thinks , telling him how she feels , asking him how he feels, etc. It's just details in conversation but it makes the relationship so deep. He understands her, and let her free. Knows she must walk her path, even if it's different from his, even if it seems futile in his eyes.

I think the Warp Ring is that size to fit the Chimera for the journey back, since it has no functioning hyperdrive. Have a feeling that Baylan is true neutral in the Grey Jedi class in that he hates the never-ending cycle of rise and fall of either side, but Shin is leaning more towards the Lightside. So happy that after 46 years of Star Wars, someone (kudos to David Tennant) has finally said the opening line of the entire franchise

Interesting. I'm seeing themes here between Master and Padawan that been touched upon in the prequels and the clone wars series that is showing up in Ahsoka. Shin is following her master but is noticing his inconsistences ie what he trained and told her. Some are obvious like the promise to Sabine not being honored to working with the night sisters. She's mentioned the word witches three times now and always looked uneasy. Yet though we havent seen it her knowledge of that use of the force and why its frowned upon can only come from Baylin. Yet he still working with a night sister while in one of the episodes he showed the same distain to Morgan's skills and called i witchcraft. As well as the fact that Shin knows that the world they on is too dangerous. We also saw this dynamic with Ahsoka flashback with Anakin opening questioning that the Jedi are literally waging a war. This stems from episode 1 in the first five minutes of the film where obi wan senses what turns out to be palpatine but is told to ignore it by Qui Gon. Because the theme is that the older Jedi stuck in their training and set in their own ways aren't noticing the obvious signs that a padawan who is young and still learning do notice. And on top of that bending the rules to get the job done or sometimes doing things jedi arent suppose to. Interesting to find out where shin's journey ends in this series.

when Baylan said "The enemy of our enemy is our friend.. for now" I immediately also took that to be in reference to, yes the bandits, but also Thrawn and the NIghtsisters. Clearly Baylan neither trusts Thrawn or considers him friendly (and vice versa), and Baylan is chasing his own ambition.

Great reaction, Trent and Julia. This is one of my favorite episodes in the series, within the entire Mandoverse, and The SWU, in general. The world-building is excellent...I need to see more of Peridea and the rest of the star system it resides in. It says quite a bit, that the 3 Nightsisters singled Sabine out as being a Jedi (considering 2 others stood near her, who were strong Force-users), and a threat. It seems evident that, at some key point in this series and the rest of The Mandoverse, Sabine Wren is going to perform acts of Force-wielding, however minor or major those feats will be in the grand scheme of things. Jacen will be so proud to know that Aunt Sabine used The Force, like he has. I think The Force may have been at work with her finding Ezra so easily...it seems, she was fated to find him, which is why he tasked her with this duty...I suppose he had a vision of who would come to rescue him, after saving Lothal from Thrawn...which means that Huyang may have been correct in his theory that Sabine's only choice was to go with the enemy and find Ezra. As The Nightsisters would say: The Threads Of Fate demanded it. The most fascinating mystery of this whole episode: WHAT is it, that's been calling out to Baylan, from across the stars and the galaxy, and how does it stir on Peridea? And, why Baylan, of all individuals in the galaxies? Here's one clue: A fan managed to decipher the runes along the walls of the fortress/castle where The Nightsisters reside, and it praises and worships the exploits of an ancient Zeffo Sith Lord Warrior... May The Force Be With You Two...

Baylan appears to be searching for a power that will reshape the galaxy - a way to break the cyclical history he sees. It's why he isn't concerned about Thrawn and the New Republic going to war - he's looking for something that will burn (figuratively or literally) the galaxy to the ground, Thrawn/New Republic included, so he can start anew - shaping the galaxy to fit his vision. "One must destroy in order to create."

Baylin seems to be suffering from survivors guilt and blaming the jedi order for it. His description of the Jedi being weak reveals his mindset that his idea of the temple and the order was about strength and not what its really about which is peace. It sounds like he was at the temple which my guess is he was there when anakin attacked as no one knows outside of yoda obi wan and ahsoka knew that anakin turned to the dark side which he clearly knew about because on what he said to Ahsoka in episode 4. That to me means he saw anakin leading the attack with the clone troopers and manage to escape. Anyway thx for the reaction Fandom Zone.

The Good: - We went to a new galaxy - Huyang's line, " A long, long time ago. In a galaxy far, far away " - The head Night Sister was Claudia Black of Farscape (a classic and one of my all-time favorite sci-fi shows) - We saw Thrawn - We saw Ezra - Thrawn's army is the most captivating and threatening Stormtroopers I've ever seen. I think some if not all of them are zombies. Their armor has been crushed and restored with gold. Most likely due to a catastrophic crash so they must've been reanimated with Night Sister magic. - Baylan and Shin continue to be intriguing characters. Love Ray's performance. If Filoni needs his character to continue, recasting him with Gerald Butler would be a great move. He has the same intensity, weight, and aura that Baylan needs. And always wanted to see Butler in SW anyway. The Bad: - The intro to the new galaxy took place on a barren boring wasteland of a planet. Instead of a sprawling, bustling civilization with new tech, culture, architecture, etc., we've never seen in SW before. A huge missed opportunity that will hopefully be remedied with exploration of the more industrialized parts of this or other planets in the new galaxy. - Thrawn's Destroyer backdrop during his intro and for most of his scenes was really bad greenscreen or Volume. It reminded me of the large obvious matte painting of the Millennium Falcon behind Lando in the scene with his "Would you get going you pirate? " line to Solo in ROTJ - Thrawn had a dad bod that was comical to look at. Undermining his intimidating look otherwise. - The actor who played Ezra's delivery seemed a bit stiff and wooden on first viewing - The reunion with Sabine and Ezra was overly casual and unnaturally unemotional. Anyone who first saw someone after a decade (?) of not even knowing if they're still alive would be an emotional wreck. Not nearly as casual as Sabine and Ezra were. There wasn't a single tear shed! This was uninspired writing and a missed opportunity for something that should've been a much more realistic, cathartic, climatic, outpouring of emotion. - Sabine's dismissiveness in not answering when Ezra asks her how she got to him doesn't make any sense. Especially because the people who got her there may pose an imminent threat to them both. And she believes them to be their only way home (as she has no idea Ahsoka's even alive let alone coming to get her). Both are crucially important to communicate to Ezra immediately.

I don't really like how selfish and infuriating Sabine is portrayed in this series. I can't actually remember that she was like this in Rebels as well. I understand the urge to find and save a good friend, but if there's a danger to the entire galaxy involved, you don't rush headlong into it without thinking about the consequences. And even now that she's found Ezra, her first thought is a selfish one, in that she just wants to enjoy it for now, instead of getting right to work with her friend to counteract the consequences of her actions.

Keep in mind Sabine has lost pretty much everyone, that leads to a change of personality. She lost her Mandalorian family in the purge, Ezra at the battle of Lothal, Kannan shortly before Ezra, Ahsoka abandoned her, Zeb & Hera went to the republic, and all the while Sabine shut herself up in Ezra's tower with no one but a Lothcat.

Theres nothing to practice. Sabine doesnt have the force. To give her force abilities would be a massive middle finger to the fans and Star Wars Rebels. Besides shes a mandalorian she doesnt need the force.

I'm calling this _Sabine_ , because it sure isn't Ahsoka's show.

@@antliveyabish9555 Episode 5 was the type of focus episode the supporting character gets, before returning to the main character. Sabine has _dominated_ this series.

If they could bring Lars Mikkelsen back to do the character of Thrawn, who he voiced in Rebels, why couldn't they bring Taylor Gray back to be Ezra? Eman Esfandi looks nothing like the Ezra from the animated series, even with the 10 year time jump. Sabine sort of looks like her character from the series, but Dave Filoni could have done a better job at finding someone who more closely resembles her.
