I think one of my favorite moments from this fight is actually the end of it. When she had his own saber against his neck. The look on his face...something that wasn't quite a smile, not quite a smirk either...it's unsettling. And he just looks down at the blade, looks back up at her...and there's one simple fiercely proud question in his expression: _It's your choice Snips. What will you do?_ Hayden was always incredible at silent acting, and that was showcased gorgeously here.

@@MrCarpediem6 Yeah that is a bummer...but he seems to be the chill type who is happiest doing whatever makes him happy. And while he seriously enjoys being Anakin Skywalker, he also enjoys being a fan again too. He said as much himself about the ST. "I really enjoyed everything they’ve been up to, and it was fun for me just getting to go back to be a fan and just watch these stories like everybody else.” I know some of the most hardcore haters will be skeptical of this, since it was during his Kenobi press tour, BUT given he has had a love of Star Wars BEFORE he was cast as Anakin, AND after, despite EVERYTHING...I'm willing to bet they're genuine. He's just...a nice guy. He'd have no need to lie or change his tune on a dime. And I would love to see him more, but if he's happy just making occasional appearances then...well. I'm gonna have to learn to be happy with what we have.

I feel Anakin wanted to test Ahsoka's emotion and self control. His lesson seemed to be: Ahsoka should not be afraid to turn into Anakin, instead use what he taught her (dark side tendencies included) because she will become more balanced in the force as long as she has self control.

It was such an intense moment. Ahsoka has so much emotion towards Anakin, that its palpable. She views Anakin as her older brother and it was surely gut wrenching for her to find out that her mentor/brother whom she highly praised and respected, became a depressed, maimed, and murderous tyrant that was only redeemed in the end through his son's actions.

'Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering.' When Ahsoka threw Anakin's lightsaber away without succumbing to the darkside, she essentially overcome her fear (from grey to white). Meaning Anakin's lesson was learnt, she needed to move on from the past, so she could continue to LIVE to the fullest (it was these fears/past memories that were holding Ahsoka back).

In general I think this scene contrasted well with the last Ahsoka vs Vader fight in Rebels. That was about averaging her master - Vader: 'Revenge is not the Jedi way' then Ahsoka: 'I am no Jedi' - this implies she was still holding onto past events and her fears. Ahsoka: 'I wont leave you, not this time' then Vader: 'Then you will DIE', which she would have if Ezra didn't pull her out into the world between worlds. Then in this episode, Ahsoka is pulled back into the world between worlds (possibly by Anakin) to give her a final lesson about living (to LIVE without anything holding you back from Fear & Failure). Anakin takes her back to the clones wars and him becoming a Sith, so she could confront these fears and move on from them essentially (Confronting fears is the embodiment of Ahsoka being a Jedi). The few seconds we got with Ahsoka having Sith eyes was so they could emphasise her letting go off her fears and similarly for Anakin reverting back from his Sith eyes to portray how Luke helped Vader change back to Anakin.

Young Ahsoka says, "If I am everything you are...". Anakin cuts her off by saying, "You've learned nothing.". But the unspoken part that Ahsoka was about to say is that she fears she'll become what Anakin became. That is why she is so angry and filled with hate towards Anakin, because she's terrified she'll become just like him in all aspects. That's when the Sith eyes come out and she's at the point of "crossing the Rubicon". But she pulls back, just as Luke did, and throws the lightsaber away.

Ahsoka (2023) improved Anakin for me. Who knew Hayden Christensen would end up one of the best actors of Disney SW? But then Ahsoka made Ahsoka less likable! I prefer animated Ahsoka much more. Made Hera less likable. "I'm a General." Keep reminding that to everyone. A different character has outshined Ahsoka in every episode. Baylan, Shin, Sabine, and Anakin. More people were curious about Marrok than talking about Ahsoka. Ahsoka is now Ahsoka the White and nobody seems to give a shit! That's not who people are talking about. Every comment praises Hayden and that's it. Wait when Thrawn and Ezra show up. Ahsoka is becoming Jerry Seinfeld where she's the titular character but she's the least popular. Happened last year when Obi-Wan Kenobi should've been called Reva while Obi-Wan had to babysit Leia most of the time. Rosario's Ahsoka is simply not connecting with the audience no different than Temuera Morrison's Boba Fett. They needed to bring back Pedro Pascal's character to save Temuera's series. Then threw in Grogu, Peli, The Armorer, Ahsoka, and Luke to remind everyone The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka are all happening around the same time. So when Grogu saw a purrgil in Mando S3E1 (happens 10-minutes in), he might have saw Ahsoka transport to this new galaxy? Wouldn't that be a welcome surprise if Mando was there to help Ahsoka fight against Thrawn? Seems like Mando/Din Djarin has to always appear to save another SW series from a boring titular character. It probably wasn't her or they would've ended up at the same place. Cool crossover theory though. I Iike Star Wars Meg using Shin's thumbnail for her recent video. Yes, more of her and Baylan, please? I even started to miss Sabine when we didn't see her in Ep 5. At least Sabine has a motive that I'm not seeing from Ahsoka. Find Ezra. Got it. While Ahsoka looks high or bored. I did like seeing Ahsoka without her headband when she woke up. But then back to boring exchanges with Hera and Huyang. Thank goodness Hayden Christensen showed up, brought his A-game ala best Brad Pitt impression, and started to act more of the Anakin a lot of us wanted him to sound like 21 years ago or Ep 5 really would've sucked. Ahsoka after 5 episodes has been uneven so far the way TBoBF and Obi-Wan were. The first 3 episodes could've been 1 long episode. Too many unnecessary scenes we didn't need and characters saying 5 words per minute. I'm still not confident with the last 3 episodes being good and I'm beginning to think like some others that Thrawn is just a tease. We only see him for like 1 minute or less at the very end and the credits roll. Dave will tease him in S1 only to use him for all of S2 and perhaps a SW movie. I also think we'll only see Ezra briefly but we'll see him reunite with Sabine, Hera, and Chop. We know Ray Stevenson died but if Baylan ends up becoming a really interesting character, why not recast him? Maybe this new actor will not be as good as how Ray portrayed him, but why kill him off because Ray died? We saw Daario in Game of Thrones get recasted and Ed Skrein didn't die. Two different actors portrayed Hulk and Rhodey in MCU. Would be a shame to kill off Baylan so quickly because Ray died. I'm really interested in Baylan's main goal to all this. I think Shin has her own motives she's not telling anyone. That's why Baylan and Shin are the most interesting characters. We're still trying to figure out their intentions. I don't really see that from Ahsoka. Rosario Dawson's most boring role ever. She either looks stoned or bored. Talking 5 words per minute. The series is called Ahsoka when the story is rarely about Ahsoka. She's actually the low point of her own series! Some of us are trying to like her but animated Ahsoka and live-action Ahsoka are like night and day. But Dave will protect his daughter and make her disarm Anakin within 1-second while Obi-Wan got buried by rocks before defeating him.. 🤣

Anakin's lesson is that if you want to live, if you want to succeed--you HAVE to fight--but you don't have to lose yourself to the darkness in doing so. This was a lesson Anakin himself did not fully learn until he taught Luke the first part. It's the wisdom of that final encounter in RotJ passed down to Ahsoka, and I think Filoni did a fantastic job making that connection.

So let's see, Anakin, Palpatine, The Grand Inquisitor, Ahsoka...Ohhhhh YOU'RE RIGHT. Ben Solo-Skywalker NEVER had Sith eyes. Just the brown/black. I guess that shows he always struggled being dark, just like Anakin did, but in reverse. Whereas Anakin was pulled towards the DARK, Ben was always pulled towards the LIGHT. And Rey is kind of like right in the middle. At least I hope she stays in the middle like in TROS. She was always just SO FCKING MAD that movie, and always let her emotions run her, like a Sith would. By the end of the film, she had her own inner peace by rejecting her legacy, by realizing there was more to her.

Just a thought that just popped up in my head. I realised thinking back, Anakin never really had a "visual" of what the darkside could lead him too. Think about it, Obi-Wan saw how Maul had become when he gave in to his anger at the end. Luke and Ahsoka had Anakin to see what it does to you but there wasnt anyone for Anakin to kinda warn him about what he could become. Not even Dooku would be a good example because while he did become a Sith he always presented himself as more of a "Dark Jedi" than a full on Sith Lord.

All the darkside users sensed Anakins power and hid in the shadows to slowly eat away at him. Such a sad realization. Now he showed us all that he truly is the chosen one, even all that darkness he harnessed and used to pass on his experience and wisdom to his padawan. Demonstrating he has truly become one with the force. What a bitter sweet full circle moment in SW history we are witnessing.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I looked at her eyes and the sequence several times. The main argument I would put forward for it being a depiction of her taping into the dark side for just a moment is that the color change doesn't correspond to the movement of the lightsaber. The redding of the eyes begins breifly before she raises her sword and moves her face closer to Anakin and then fades just as briefly while the sword remains at similar position relative to her face. So despite what color was chosen and whether the specific color is relevant, to me the effect seems clearly intentional to distinguish it from the swords reflection.
@Zapdos97

@GiraelCS That can be true. We know yellow golden eyes aren't exclusive to the Sith, they manifest when someone is steeped deeply in the dark side. Basically like the Grand Inquisitor. Perhaps Ahsoka as well on Mortis while under the influence of The Son. Her eyes here though are definitely not Sith eyes like we've seen, lighting or not, we'd be able to see that prominent red outline shape.

I get that she was a grey Jedi, you know someone in-between. But to tap into the sith power so much so that your eyes turn, is just too much. And I think it was filmed in the way that you can take it one way or the other. At the end of the day I think it's more about Ahsoka telling Anakin that she does have the conviction in her. Anakin after embodying both the light and the dark understood that the dark side wasn’t loving, or living. He wanted to teach her that it’s okay to feel love, and to love herself. At that critical moment, the Darkside gave her the power to destroy Anakin, th source of all her pain, her anguish, her doubt about life and living on. At that moment Ahsoka was on the precipice. Like Luke, if she killed Anakin, she would become just like him; which is her greatest fear. So she turned away; threw away the red lightsaber. She chose to live ...in the light.. If Anakin wanted to he would’ve Ahsoka in like 2 seconds. The point is that he’s training her and trying to teach her something here. He shows her Vader so that she HAS to confront the source and symbol of all of her guilt and even hatred towards herself. And like Vader in the OT, she does have some disdain for herself and like Vader she has to understand that she’s more than that. That’s what Anakin was trying to teach her. That she is more than her sins/mistakes. That’s ultimately why Anakin was like “Is that what this whole self loathing thing is really about? I know just what you need to get over this” and spars her as Vader to get her to face her fears and feelings.

My initial impression of her eyes were that it symbolised balance. The Jedi fell because they simply ignored the darkness and focused only on the light and the were the same. All have light and darkness within them but for true balance and mastery of the force one must master and control both the light and the dark without letting one consume the other. To me this was part of Anakins final lesson and this is what he has become. Balanced.

Nothing Dave does is without subtlety. In the Siege of Mandalore scene, after speaking to her about Legacy, young Ahsoka calls Anakin out for possessing dangerous power. His answer? "Is that what this is about?" before attacking her as pre-suit Darth Vader. Yes, the Dark Side is part of the Skywalker line. But this first season is all about negotiating that Balance. We see it in Luke, and Anakin, and even with characters like Skoll and the Bendu. Everybody has a light side and dark side to contend with. But when the moment came when she could embrace it, she didn't. And I don't believe Anakin would've permitted her to return to the Living Force if she failed. He probably would've raised her over and over again until she got it right. "This is what it's like to be Anakin Skywalker now..."

I think the 'Live or Die' question posed by Anakin was more aimed towards Ahsoka realising she has something to live and fight for rather than if she personally wanted to die, as the question would suggest, as wanting to live/extend life is a trait of the sith/darkside whereas having a reason to live is associated with the light.

I believe this served as not just a test to see if Ashoka understood what it meant to live as a Jedi in this new era, but also you could see it as her test for becoming a Jedi Master. By not just throwing her into a fight where the only clue to the lesson is live or die but by dropping her into two of her most emotional moments. The battle of Ryloth where she has to learn the harshest lesson of leadership during war as well as the Siege of Mandalore when she knows that as she fights that battle Anakin is completing his fall to the dark side. Then when she again falls back to what has been he immediately shoves his full on Vader side with the red saber and Sith eyes while treating like a fresh padawan again telling her she's learned nothing and must start over from the beginning. While telling her she lacks conviction as the shadow of Vader's Mechanical form pushes through. Leading up to the point that @TheRibottoStudies where Hayden flaunts his silent acting. It's all designed to drive her to the breaking point by the one person who had the most influence on her development good and bad. The one person who could truly drive her to the dark side and then he allows her to make the choice like a master should in order to test if she has truly learned the lesson. This was beautifully done and I hope we get at least one more conversation between Anakin and Ashoka.

I noticed it during watching, but I still think it's just the reflection of all that light. From a director's standpoint, if they wanted to show something (like Ahsoka having sith eyes at one point) they wouldn't have made it so not obvious, with half the viewers saying it's reflection and the other half saying it's sith eyes. If they had wanted to show her with sith eyes, we would have gotten super obvious yellow eyes like with Anakin on Mustafar.

I think there's also a very basic angle this one more lesson that Anakin has for Ahsoka - it's that Anakin the dark side doesn't have to be bad, and that through it you can tap into a particular power that I suspect Ahsoka will eventually tap into during a fight with Baylan. The trend has been towards grey jedi in recent years albeit in different ways and to different degrees. - Kanan showed some grey by abandoning the "jedi can't have relationships" idea and having a child with Hera. - Ezra walked the line between light and dark during his time with Maul and played with sith holocrons. - Baylan left the order and found his own way as a mercenary - also possibly having a child (Shin). - Shin, like her master, has no issues with killing if it suits them, but seems to have a desire for a Jedi life. I think Ahsoka will show her grey by coming to terms with Anakin's turn to the darkside, understanding that sometimes it may be what the force wants, and call upon the darkside herself from time to time.

Ngl though I wish they did a better job at having anakin explaining what his lesson exactly was to ahsoka. Making sure not to justify the clone wars and what the jedi did to Palawan’s like ahsoka, while also making sure ahsoka understands she did complete her training and is indeed a jedi

RE: The Darkness in Ahsoka: I think there is a more to the message than that Ahsoka is capable of falling to the dark side. The war itself fostered a need for darkness. As a child soldier, tasked with taking charge of other child soldiers no less, she had to learn to be able to take lives with little thought (we see that progression from her horror in the first memory to her ease at killing Mandalorians in the second), had to bear the death of comrades on her soldiers, had to live in a constant survival mode. It is hardly the place for a Jedi to learn the serenity of being, of what it means to live outside of constant fight or flight. That aspect of Ahsoka's character (her past framed in terms of the trauma of being a child soldier) hasn't really been dove into until this point and I'm SO GLAD this show went there.

When Ahsoka tossed that lightsaber after I saw her eyes, it made me cry, just a bit. Anakin succeeded there. Hearing "there's hope for you yet" just made me stomp my feet a little after seeing the duality his display and the Vader-augmented voice saying "you lack conviction!" Just the fact that Anakin embraces both the light and dark, even in death and afterlife in order to do good, it just makes my soul happy. To see Ahsoka do exactly the same, just for a moment, is just... Something else. I already loved little 'Soka. But this just put that into overdrive. No wonder Ahsoka and Anakin got along so well. Sorry for the ADHD ramble, and I appreciate it if this is actually acknowledged.

I noticed something in this episode that at first seemed like the actress finally falling into her character after four episodes. But on further contemplation strikes me as ahsoka perhaps gaining back some of the happiness she lost with her leaving the order and later her former master falling to the dark side, the Jedi order falling and the whole galaxy being in chaos. I saw in the last portion of this episode, after her encounter with anakin, her character show some signs of the happy/at ease/relaxed ahsoka we saw in the clone wars. Almost feels like a reaction to some closure to the wound. Her master is still with her. As far as the sith eyes, this is foreshadowed by anakin telling her she is part of a legacy. “Within you will be everything I am, all the knowledge I possess.” She possess his skills and wit and cunning. But more than that she possesses his gleaming light and his passionate darkness. More so to the point you made about the hate she does feel for him, this is shown just a few lines later in the way she says; “You are more anakin, but more powerful and dangerous than anyone realized.” The hate comes through a bit in these lines. Showing her disdain for his falling and throwing the galaxy into chaos.

Jason Whitlock (AKA Fatlock) was talking about House of the Dragon last year. He's not into it to watch dragons and epic battle scenes just like he didn't care about the White Walkers crap in GOT. He watches it for the political intrigue which can relate to the real world we live in. That's how I feel about Star Wars. The lightsaber duels don't do it for me anymore. Maybe when I was still in my teens and 20s. I grew up on Jackie Chan and Jet Li throughout the 80s and 90s. I've seen better martial arts from Hong Kong. Star Wars was highly inspired from samurai films but I'm more into hand-to-hand combat. With House of the Dragon or Star Wars, I'm more interested in character motivations. Stories. Drama. Suspense. Andor was a very slow burn. I remember when I saw the trailers before it came out, I was trashing it. Why would anybody watch it if we already know how Cassian died? I saw the first 2 episodes and put it away for 9 months. Man, I was dead wrong. Andor is the best SW project I've ever seen and I saw it entirely twice. No lightsabers. Nobody using the Force. Just realistic characters with great drama and intersecting background stories. The payoffs in Ep 6, 10, and 12 are so satisfying. Thrawn doesn't fight with a lightsaber. But I don't care if he didn't. I want to know his next agenda when we finally see the Thanos of SW who fights with his fists and is a strategist like Thanos was. I prefer fighting without using weapons and telekinesis. I also want to know the agendas from Morgan, Baylan, and Shin. What's their role in all this? Cool lightsaber duels? Been there, done that. Ray Park did it the best in The Phantom Menace and that episode in Rebels against Ahsoka because Ray Park is a wushu champion like Jet Li is. Lightsaber duels is one of the least things I care about in SW at my age of 42. It's for the kiddies to jack off to and then they'll go play their Star Wars fighting game.

As others have said, I think going with your theory he wanted to see if she could move on from her own past. Pass the one test he himself couldn't, let go of her self-perceived failures and focus on the future. Equally though, I think it isn't just her past, but Thrawn also. She's been very I would say aggressive in her pursuit of him. She sounded vengeful and angered when she dueled Morgan. I may be reading too much into it, but her, Sabine, and Hera, all have been extremely passionate in their search for stopping his return, and trying to save Ezra. Passion in the Code, is anathema to Jedi, and a tool of the Sith also. Very cool detail, and well spotted.
