However I doubt he would’ve blocked Anakin’s senses in this as him knowing the truth would only work in his favour. Mace sensing Anakin as a traitor though would have worked against Palpatine so he would have wanted to block that.

00:37 the Sith Force scream paralyzed the 3 Jedi. when he did scream he poured all his hatred into the scream infusing it with dark side power. This flooded the minds of the 4 Jedi causing them to become seriously unbalanced resulting in them dying. In the novelization, Palpatines attack is said to be like a blur of motion. You also gotta remember that there hadn't been a true sith lord in forever. None of the Jedi were equipped to handle such ferociousness and true prowess of the dark side. On top of all that, the fact that Palpatine was a phenomenal duelist makes complete sense as to why the 3 Jedi got melted. Mace was just exceptionally gifted and this scene is one of the reasons why he is regarded to be amongst the top strongest Jedi. From Reddit - Windu was the creator and practitioner of an extremely unorthodox lightsaber style called Vaapad that was strictly engineered for opponents who used the dark side. Sith are taught to pour out all their hatred in a duel to overwhelm their opponent, Vaapad essentially teaches the user to redirect that dark side energy back on to their opponent. This is why Windu (one of the only practitioners of this style) was able to survive the absolute malice and power of Darth Sidious. Ofc you gotta be a true star wars nerd to have all these details

The fact George Lucas came out and stated that Mace beat Palpatine in the duel shows how truly powerful and skilled Mace really was. Obviously there’s been debates about whether this was true and the novelization provides an in-depth detailed analysis that proves George’s point. First of all, there are seven forms of lightsaber combat. Palpatine was a master of all seven forms! It would take a grand master of combat in order to at least challenge him, let alone defeat him. Mace used Form VII called _Vapaad_ which he created. It’s the most vicious form of lightsaber combat. Vaapad was explained as being a state of mind rather than just a fighting style, allowing the wielder to channel their inner darkness into the duel and accept the opponent's fury. This is why Vapaad was regarded as the Sith’s kryptonite. Another important element is that Vapaad was forbidden from being used by the Jedi Order because lots of its precepts would lead practitioners toward the dark side. Basically, Mace Windu was a master of both the light and the dark side of the Force. That explains why he uses a Purple lightsaber. You can see Ian Mcdiarmid struggling with the lightsaber scenes (notice the very short shots). Whoever did the editing for 0:41 should be arrested as he holds that saber for the same length of time that it would take to travel across the galaxy but somehow he still surprises 3 jedi masters. Then they give up and have a cgi palpatine at 0:56 look at his face. To be fair to Ian Mcdiarmid he's always said that he found saber fights the hardest so it shouldn't have been a surprise to the producers/editors when it looks bad. He's a lot slower than samuel L Jackson which is I think the issue.

It is pretty badly portrayed but in the novelisation it is said that Palps was extremely fast when he used his full power of the dark side plus the scream he let out was so powerful it stunned most of his opponents. He used the Vaapad variant of the Seventh and Forbidden form of Lightsaber Combat. In case you don’t know, there are 2 variants of the form, Juyo and Vaapad. They are different in a way: -Juyo focused on aggressive assault and a mindset that drew upon anger and negative emotions to fuel relentless assault. This version led so many to fall to the dark side or close to it. -Vaapad drew upon similar anger and passion, but it required the user not to give in to the dark side. It wasn’t as reckless as Juyo though.

I don't know, the slaughtering of the sand people in Episode 2 was pretty evil to me, I mean yeah it was an evil clan, but slaughtering all the women and children was a bit much, After doing that, killing Jedi younglings was nothing to Anakin

Palpatine is the most powerful Sith ever. Palpatine is more powerful than Yoda, too. The goal of Palpatine was to team up with Annakin and form a special type of bond that would allow the two to be united a live in a way that allowed to to essentially be immortal. But, Palpatine and Vader ended up not having that type of bond.

I'm kind of emotionally conflicted with how this happened, even though we all knew it HAD to happen. Anakin KNEW the Sith used such abilities as Force Lightning, and they use deception and mistrust. I can't understand why Anakin would trust and/or believe that Palpatine didn't have his best interests at heart. Also, Anakin had no problem reporting to Windu that he found the Sith Lord they had been looking for. Like, why even tell the Jedi Council you found him, if you need him? Also, the bodies of 3 Jedi Masters in one of Palpatine's rooms should have also clued him in. And, Mace was just not fully aware of what was happening. As soon as Anakin said "You can't. He must stand trial." Windu's eyebrow should have went up and he should have backed away. Windu already didn't trust Anakin fully, ever since Episode I. I just felt, with all things considered, these characters acted strangely in this scene. It should have been done better, IMO.

I always felt that palpatine actually could have beat Mace. As much as I liked his character. I always thought palpatine planned this, lead mace to believe he was gonna win, then when anakin walks in he’s down on the ground like a victim as anakin doesn’t even realize he murdered three others 30 seconds prior. Then he sees mace about to kill him, then unleashes the lightning showing anakin the power he really had, but fakes it wasn’t enough to save himself and then anakin chooses to save him and then palpatine immediately unleashes the “unlimited power” and effortlessly lightings mace out the window and anakin then realizes he made a mistake but quickly realizes he’s more powerful that he thought and pledges to him because he’s scared of him at the same time not realizing he’s actually more powerful then palpatine but will never know it because of his fear of him.

I still find that Force Scream @0.38 absolutely terrifying Love Window's face at 1.10 though. Sorry I mean...Windu PS I am still of the opinion that Mace won the duel, and defeated Sidious fair and square. In fact, I am of the opinion that as Star Wars theory said, he mopped the floor with him. Was just Anakin's arrival that ruined the victory, so out the window went Windu.

I've always felt this was one of the most wasted opportunities. Palpatine's power could have been shown off if he had forced the Jedi to kill themselves without him even moving using the force. And Anakin could have been shown trying to use Force lightning, but failing with one of his mechanical arms. Lastly I wish Windu had realized that Anakin was going to kill Padme and Anakin combines his one-arm lightning with Palpatine's to finish off Windu. Would have been FAR more powerful a scene...

1:07 is the only evidence I’m considering that shows Palpatine intentionally lost the fight so that Anakin could arrive and see what was happening. I want to believe Mace won legitimately but it always pains me to accept that he really didn’t.

Sidious also utilized the Jedi's arrogance to show Anakin that there is no difference between the Jedi and the Sith because if they were going to fight a Sith as powerful as Darth Sidious, then they should've at least waited until Obi-Wan and Yoda got back so that they had some powerhouses of their own to fight Sidious but no, they were over confident and rushed in half-cocked. And that gave Sidious the opportunity he needed to get Anakin on his side. The Jedi were, in reality, destroyed by their own arrogance.

4 jedi masters cant kill one sith. Two of them just stand there and die, third gets gutted few moments later. They just give those titles to everyone they meet, except for Anakin.

Useless Jedi at 0:41 and 0:43 should have at least completed basic training before being sacrificed to Palpatine without swinging the light sabre even once. Even once the fighting starts the guy at 0:41 is staring off to the side at Palpatine's vacation photos.
