The protagonist reminds me of an unfinished doll that came to life and is trying to figure out what drives people to live. The cyclops girl could perhaps be someone who's always been really easy going and finds most of her questions kind of bizarre, but is still doing her best to help. And the villain would be an action figure from the same maker as the MC, who's completely given up on life and wants to spare everyone from it.

The AI just copies what we humans do, really. It's like looking in a mirror. It's actually really interesting to see what biases AI has based on what we humans create and consume, for example if you ask it to generate a doctor, it will almost always be a white man.

I'm actually kind of surprised you were confused by all the green in the villain section. When I saw that I immediately went oh yeah of course theres lots of green before u even commented on it. If u think of a lot of famed super villain designs in comics, they are often green (Loki, Green Goblin, tbh a bunch of spiderman's rogues, Doctor Doom, etc). This sort of originates in the heroes tending to have a lot of red or blue on their designs, so the villains were made green in contrast.

That might actually have it's origins as far back as the Victorian era, green paints contained arsenic and were highly toxic, many people died because of rooms painted green so the color quickly gained a reputation of being incredibly dangerous.

Let's not forget that most of Disney's most famous villains are also associated with green! Ursula and Dr. Facilier's magic are green, Scar has green eyes and the smoke in "Be Prepared" (one of the best villain songs ever, IMHO) is green, the Evil Queen in Snow White has green magic as well, Cruella's cigarette smoke is green, Gothel's lantern is green, Maleficent's magic, smoke, and skin are all green, even the Evil Stepmother in Cinderella (Lady Tremaine) has green eyes. The only exceptions are from Encanto! Of course, Bruno's magic is green and Bruno wears green... and Mirabel, the other "weirdo in the family," has green glasses to symbolize her similarities to her uncle Bruno before we even get to meet him. Everyone in the village and in the family see Bruno as an ominous person bc they think he makes bad things happen, when really he was just stating things that were already likely to happen and people didn't like that they were true. Therefore, they see him as a bad guy. In reality, he was the only one with an all-green palette bc Mirabel and her parents and siblings wore blue, and Pepa, Felix, and all of their kids wore yellow. Bruno was never married and never had kids, but if he did, all of them also would've worn green; He would've looked a LOT less singled-out.

The villain definitely reads like some kind of sci-fi evil emperor/scientist who made the android girl but never got to finish her because she gained sentience while being built (probably as an advanced soldier to do some war crimes) and ran away. She finds the cyclops girl on the first planet she manages to crash onto, who is a native of that planet that’s being plundered for resources by the empire. They team up to take it down while building a friendship and trying to figure out how to communicate and helping android girl work out her sense of self.

these designs are awesome! i adore the secondary cyclops character, she's so adorable. would love to watch this movie. :) real quick though: probably no one's going to see this comment, but i figured it might be worth throwing in my two cents on the ai art discussion, because i think y'all haven't been given the right information. the ai is *not* taking multiple images and collaging or scrambling them together, it's a very different process. what happens roughly is the ai is fed a massive number of images which it studies - it looks at lineart and thinks "well, black pixels tend to show up in lines, i'll start making dark lines!", looks at colour palettes and thinks "red and orange show up together a lot, i'll put red and orange in here!" - and then, with that information, tries to make something using those same patterns. (i'm exaggerating when i say it "thinks", but whatever) that example with the signature was *not* an ai scrambling multiple signatures together. it was an ai learning the rule that "art has a signature in the bottom right", and trying to write a signature too (without being able to learn a whole language, so it's made of semirandom lines). it might still be wrong to use artists' work in an ai's data pool without permission, i'm not certain either way. i just think understanding the process better might help the discussion.

That's pretty much spot-on as a description. The AI basically has no concept of what a "picture" even is, so it's looking for patterns in the way the pixels are arranged in an image. *You Look Like a Thing and I Love You*, by Janelle Shane, has an interesting anecdote about this. An AI trained to generate pictures of cats was putting in strange blocky blobs of what looked like, but wasn't, text. It turned out that it was "fed" a lot of lolcats memes and was trying to imitate the caption lettering. (PS: At least two people read your comment because it had two likes when I got here.)

The another interesting thing to notice- you needed to give these meaning, artists usually give things meaning outright while AI does not. In addition- the AI is quite highly stereotipical in what it "assembles", it never breaks a mold. THe only good thing I can say is that you gave things your touches, so at least you aren't like the "AI artists" who take full credit for what was generated without even a smidge of their own work put in ( I do not count a searchword as work)

A small correction for how AI art works - the AI isn’t piecing together existing images like a collage. Instead, it’s been ‘trained’ on very large sets of images, effectively learning what different things look like. Then, it creates its own entirely original images that have the same qualities as what it’s seen before.

'Original character' probably only brought up weird anime creatures because it's just any unclaimed ocs. There's nothing to differentiate them between other ocs because even though they're original, they're not meant to be very unique in how they look. 'My Oc' probably brought up more specific results because it is more specific and people have "claimed" them as their own. It's the specific person's specific character.

Whoaaa, the dead-eyed anime android looks like she was a companion droid that was scrapped and thrown in a dumpster, only she gained sentience and cobbled herself back together into a terrifying assassin who runs up and impales you with her long spike arm. i thought it was interesting that you pointed out the signature on the cyberpunk image you generated because when you generated the "my oc" characters, the first thing i noticed in all the images is the scribbles on almost every single result that seemed to be signatures or watermarks. it made me wonder about the phrasing, since "original character" didn't seem to have any. it makes me think that, probably, "original character" is pulling from 'official' sources (most likely anime and games with the style, which makes me wonder what sources were fed into the ai) while "my oc" is pulling from social media sites and websites like deviantart. speculation, obviously, but just a trend i noticed

The reason there's such a huge difference in the promps "original character" VS "my oc" is because this AI steals art, so when it was looking for original character, it probably found anime protagonists, but when looking for "my oc" almost all of the generated images look like they where stolen from DA.. I swear I recognize some of the og artists, #4 on the far left literally still has the watermark, it just got ruined bc of the ai, and the one chosen from the prompt, also has a messed up watermark. This is why artist say not to use these AI's. Multiple artists have even seen alsomt exact replicas of there art- so try not to use AI, commission an artist insead!! :)

I feel like the AI/creator debate could have an impact on the narrative these characters belong to rather than just being limited to their designs - the android girl represents industry, technology and the future, while the druid cyclops embodies tradition, nature and the past (ostensibly being parables for AI and artists respectively). The villain ties these two characters together by having a very mechanical design like the android girl while also having a predominantly green color scheme like the druid cyclops

Nice to see more a critique of ai that the pitchfork and torch attitude. There's legitimate concerns and problems, especially if art's your income, but I just find how they break different aspects of art down fascinating. They can do lace fabric or tessilated spiral patterns to intricate detail but things like faces and hands have a surreal dream-like indescribability. Or it looks like dropped spaghetti under an Instagram filter. Dealers choice.

I think AI generated art might be good for ideas, like how you can generate names or even short stories, but trying to pass it off as your own original work is not great for the art community at large. People will buy and make whatever they are going to, though so I guess there is not a lot anyone can do if that's the way the community ends up going toward. It's like "art critics"/"art curators" vs actual artists. There will always be this split. If museum art actually reflected what was popular we would have Furry Galleries everywhere.
