water hemlock grows everywhere where i live, it's along a lot of ditches by freeways and some local small rivers. it looks a lot like queen anne's lace when it flowers so kids are just told that all those flowers are toxic to avoid confusing them. i forage for wild plants a lot and that was one of the first ones i had to learn to identify fast. even breaking the plant apart in your fingers causes red blistering and irritation, so i can't imagine what eating it would feel like... ew

Once I passed by them with my friend and she mentioned something about being told that they were poisonous and I hadn’t thought much about it until right now. The flowers may just be look a-likes and not actually water hemlock, but still. I feel like someone should probably look into the flowers in areas where CHILDREN play that look suspiciously similar to a highly toxic flower?

Btw, as I found out while reading a mushroom book, not all amanitas are deadly. Some of the more famous "deadly mushrooms" are the poisonous amanitas. Still, Id like to emphasize that not all of them are deadly. Edit: By searching "destroying angel mushroom", I found that the amanita mushroom first referenced and drawn was amanita verna. I recommend clarifying this next time, as the misunderstanding could confuse those who know very little about mushrooms. Especially since amanita can be used to address over 600 species of fungi.

I use the Kyle T Webster Inking Thick n' Thin brush! I bought it a long time ago so I'm not sure if it is still buyable but any brush that imitates a slightly textured inking pen works very similarly! :) I hope that helps!

dunno if you'll ever do a video on this again but if you ever do I'd love to see an oleander character :] I think that'd be neat. ngl angels trumpet reminded me a lil of it- since they're both shrubbery and very commonly used as decorations and both deadly poisonous. but angels trumpets symptoms r WAY more terrifying 😭😭

Amanita is a genus of fungi. There are a bunch that contain amatoxins and not all of them are in the Amanita genus (not all in the genus contain amatoxins, like the classic Amanita muscaria). Amatoxins can be fatal in doses as low as 0.1mg/kg. The classic Destroying Angel or Angel of Death name typically refers to A. bisporigera, A. ocreata, A. phalloides, or A. virosa. These mushrooms are myccorhizal, meaning they don't act as decomposers, and instead form symbiotic relationships with trees, helping to ensure the trees get the necessary nutrients, while also taking a bit for themselves. Amatoxin isn't even one toxin, there are at least ten different amatoxins, not all fatal, or even effective on humans. Normally a Greek letter is in their name, but not everyone knows those. There's alpha-amanitin, beta-amanitin, epsilon-amanitin, gamma-amanitin, amanullin, proamanullin, amanullinic acid, amaninamide, and delta-amanitin. Delta-amanitin has been reported, though its structure hasn't yet been mapped out. Most are harmful to humans, and all are toxic to the liver and kidneys. Amanullin and amanullinic acid are not lethal to humans, both are species specific, effecting rats, and amanullinic acid is only somewhat lethal as the lethal dose was recorded to be on average higher than 20mg/kg in rats. The toxins work by inhibiting RNA polymerase II and III, which is vital for DNA replication. It does not stop bacteria from replicating their DNA. If DNA cannot replicate, cells cannot reproduce to repair damaged and dead cells. It can take up to 12 hours for symptoms to first appear, usually seeming similar to a bad case of food poisoning. After around a day, it is typical for symptoms to disappear, lulling the victim into a false sense of security. Symptoms later return, killing the victim. It can often be difficult to trace the source of the poisoning as it's not always possible to acquire a sample of what the victim ate, or identify it. Amatoxins can also be difficult to pinpoint in an autopsy as they are only detectable in the blood up to 30 hours post-comsumption, and in the urine about 3-4 days post-consumption. Reports on how lethal amatoxin containing mushrooms are, (such as A. bisporigera, the bestest most special mushroom to ever exist), can range anywhere from 20% to 50% of poisoning cases being fatal. Also it's inaccurate to say that Destroying Angels mimic edible mushrooms. They already have toxins, they don't need to mimic to be safe, there's also many that can be mistaken for them, which is not what mimicry usually looks like in practice. The edible mushrooms mimic poisonous or deadly mushrooms, and the reason Destroying Angels have so many look-a-likes is not because they copy all of the edible mushrooms, the edible mushrooms are at less of a risk of being eaten if they look like something deadly.
