I did one random one, "Ron Weasley in Fisher Price car," wanting something like him in the red one with the yellow top that people get for their kids to run around the yard in. The AI made it look like there was a little Ron Weasley Little People figure, in a bunch of the Little People cars. I'm in Midjourney and you'll probably be fine. I'm an illustrator too but the prompts are still limited in an odd way. Especially composition is a problem, most of it is perfectly centered and rarely in an actual interesting composition. Also once it gets difficult you don't know what you're going to get. It won't work well if you need to be specific and have requirements. For example a cyberpunk neon cat with red eyes and gold earrings probably won't get red eyes and gold earrings.

This is technological progress, it's happened since the dawn of time. Technology allows us to produce more with less labor, freeing up people to do other tasks. 99% of people used to be farmers and now only 1% are thanks to technology. At one point in time all the farmers complained about less farmers being needed, but now we have engineers, doctors, delivery drivers, programmers, so many jobs that help make our quality of life so much better. Some farmers really liked to farm but the increase in automation isn't just better for society, it's also inevitable.
@zephyr42542 жыл бұрын
@@MatthewBaka the same logic really doesn't apply the same when it comes to art. Art is art because people make it and express things with it. Imagine an AI-generated song. Idk if you're an artist or have made art at all, but artists are concerned for both moral and practical reasons. Idk, I think it could be an AMAZING tool for artists looking for inspiration, but the fact it just makes full on illustrations like that makes me scared for my future careers. Also the fact that Jack was saying he "made" them even though he just put a couple words in an AI image generator was a bit aggravating. Artists put so much time, thought and effort into their works.
@queen_ch3rry2 жыл бұрын
I honestly agree with you. While self-taught, I have spent years learning how to improve myself as an artist and still have people tell me my commissions or merch is "too expensive." Watching them go to another fellow artist who was willing to give them what they wanted for $10 vs. my $50 has been hard enough. Knowing they can eventually go to an AI generator and get it for free is even more upsetting - and genuinely depressing - for a creative person. It's beginning to feel like artists have no purpose when machines can generate thrills in no time at all.
@iferawhite76612 жыл бұрын
Same. I guess the future is the future, but it breaks my heart to think that the next generation might not even bother learning to paint or draw because they could just have an AI do it for them. I wouldn't worry too much. These AI only take from what already exists. If you were to give midjourney an incredibly detailed and niche prompt, it will give you a nice looking image that's missing a lot of the details you described. It mainly excels in imitating general concepts in a pleasing art style. It works well with single word prompts especially, but that's not too impressive considering they're vague prompts to begin with and thus can't really have "wrong" interpretations. Humans are still absolutely necessary. At least for now lol..

I've already gotten the "AI will replace artists" comment once or twice around the time of the previous AI photo generation hype, and im worried people are genuinely going to think you can replace artists with AI. Why not learn to manipulate AI generated images to create the artwork you want? That's what I do! I'm a digital artist, music writer, and amateur 3D modeler. Learning to evolve with the tech is one of the most important ways of the modern artist imo, use that shit and squeeze the fuck outta it until you get shit. When life gives you lemons make some goddamn goodass lemonade! There's only so much detail that you can give an AI. Remember, this AI is only replicating what exists. Sure, the crazy stuff does it well, but it's not even creating something truly new, it's only building from what it has already existing. That's why you can't give it such complicated specifications, because then it'd become VERY janky.
@jayshirley82742 жыл бұрын
@@exist4046 well, anything anyone has ever made is just something replicated from what they already know and what they know exists. Thats how everything works. We make stuff and things and art based on what we know, see, hear and feel/etc. Eventually AI will genuinely be able to create art just as a human would. Humans are basically just very very complex and intelligent AI or I guess you could say AI is/are just dumbed down humans but soon enough they will become just as smart and even smarter then us, eventually AI and machines will be able to do everything a human can but better AND more. The only real difference is that we are organic and that's mostly a downside because if or more like when we finally destroy our planet, we will die off while AI will continue on.

What I feel is sad about the “good” ones is that if these engines become widespread, it will become increasingly harder to value and analyze art. If you look at a digital painting made by a human, then despite the medium you can speculate on what was a the artist thinking about, what choices they made or what symbolism they wanted to portray. If you look at an AI generated painting all you can speculate on is “what was the prompt?” even if the piece looks beautiful and meaningful.
@toyguy1192 жыл бұрын
While the artistic intent and the artists vision for a piece is always an interesting discussion to have, in my opinion the more important part of art and its value is how other individuals respond, what they can gleam from it, and that is still something we’d have with ai generated artwork. However it’s a moot point, as artwork made by humans isn’t ever going anywhere, even if ai generated art becomes more common alongside it.
@rexana_rexana2 жыл бұрын
@@toyguy119 The problem also becomes companies using AI art to cut corners and actual artists lose their jobs. Concept Designers, Illustrators, Storyboarders, Character Designers, etc, all of their jobs could be tossed because companies would rather someone sit on a computer and input prompts. That effects real people. Yeah, Ai art is cool and all, and if it ends up a seperate medium then it's completely fine and the worry will have been over nothing, but knowing the trend of companies, they'll cut any meat they can to save a pretty penny, even if they end up with an artificial replacement and the actual humans they dumped are left with nothing left to do to feed themselves. That's my worry, and the worry of many other artists in this comment section.

Honestly at this point I think we as a species need to think about this a lot more, and that makes me want this to happen faster. Almost every job will be automated eventually. I forget the exact estimated percentages being thrown around, but pretty soon a good amount of entry-level jobs will be taken up by what will then be considered simple machines. It’s my hope that the concept of “working for our keep” will be challenged, because eventually, there won’t be job opportunities for everyone to reasonably do that. As a working artist, the concept of AI generated art is somewhat terrifying. It's hard enough to operate as an independent artist already, but tech that allows for the image compilation of all artists' work on the internet to create a product that didn't take the time, work, or creative initiative as the original images it draws from is blindsiding to artists, removes the human element of art, and makes it even harder for artists to set themselves apart creatively and make a name for themselves

The tech is mind-blowing, but personally, I GREATLY dislike how it's being applied to art, mainly because I have a very real worry that, once it starts generating properly competent and cohesive imagery, beyond even what Midjourney is capable of, there will be a paradigm shift towards devaluing pretty much all levels of manual artistic skill, especially for those at the bottom. I cannot deny the improvement in productivity and utility it provides to many a profession, but I believe that the realm of creativity should be left to people. Maybe it's me being a hopeless idealist or someone who feels like an inadequate artist, and it's what society wants to move towards, but I maintain that, should we ever reach a point where the underlying societal systems, maintenance and dull, thankless jobs can be offloaded onto perpetually self-sustaining AI management systems, creativity will be the expression of the human experience we push towards.
