@AIForHumansShow
@AIForHumansShow 23 күн бұрын
The question is... who will it burst for. It's always been a pretty terrible VC investment IMO. Tiny one to five person companies are great and can get to cashflow positive pretty quickly & the trillion dollar majors have the money to spend on the models. The middle ground is absolutely screwed tho. Too many people to be VERY small and nimble, not nearly enough money to compete with the big boys on training. Ultimately the big question will be: Can AI prove that it can create income for the MSFTs and Googles of the world? I suspect it will come in the form of new inventions and patents etc. Thanks for the comment!!

As an automation engineer that worked in a car factory, hearing Elon wanting a fully autonomous production line was a fools errand. One thing he eventually learned is some humans in the loop provide some quality control in addition to their assigned task. You can try to scenario capture all you want in manufacturing but there is always gonna be something that wasn't programmed to check for. PS, dark factory refers to the fact that the lights are off because no people are there to need them.

This new layered video generator reminds me of how I work with 3D and bring it into Stable Diffusion, importing and generating each character separately and then bringing them all together with a much weaker denoise to blend all the elements in the final result which works way better than having it figure out how the limbs of multiple characters are intersecting when they pass in front of or behind another character. I think 3D driven generation is the future to avoid things like impossible spaces or certain elements not maintaining the correct scale relative to other objects in the scenes. Cameras in 3D engines have already been figured out for years so if that's driving the physics logic as a sort of controlnet, that's going to eliminate issues where everything looks great but one character is much bigger than another relative to their world position or maintaining scale consistency between scenes.

- World wide web developed in 1990. - 1994: "Investment banks wonder where are the returns." This is basically the logic of these quarter to quarter-minded investment banks. If it were just up to quarterly reports we would never see the multi-trillion dollar returns that come about 10 or 20 years down the line. Investment banks do not invent or innovate. Their only aim is how can they extract capital. So their assessments shouldn't be taken as roadmaps. The future is coming, and every country on Earth that can is getting on board. Whether Goldman extracts funds this year, or 5 or 10 years from now, pandora's box is not closing.

100% hard agree -- I think it's interesting to see people say that this is a giant bubble. While it prob IS a investment bubble the economic and societal changes that will come from an AGI are really hard to fathom. This seems like a very unidimensional take on how they're making money or not. There are enterprise level tier subscriptions that they make thousands of dollars on with big companies using their LLMs. Also, there are a lot of different use cases in the development world for LLMs. Also, the point of OpenAI and the major NLP-based-technology companies is to create the technology and make money along the way, until the tech becomes cheaper and they already have more resources to build on it, inshaAllah. People are working on the different architectures of how they make and sort LLMs as well as agentic frameworks that can bring cost down by 85% and still have at least 90% of gpt 4 quality. It's not just about training the models. It's about the engineering of everything to get the highest output for the lowest input. And this is being done. The reason they are spending so much money, is because, once they reach the point of major cost-cuts (due to more efficient agent frame works and more efficient compute), then they will have already been on the top of the hill, inshaAllah. They will zoom away with progress, and no on will be able to catch up, inshaAllah.
@AIForHumansShow
@AIForHumansShow 22 күн бұрын
yep we mostly agree with this, after all open AI is now making billions (like 3.5 a year) but a lot of this is about how much money will continue to be poured into the ecosystem outside of OpenAI -- like large companies (say Fortune 500 ones) that are trying to figure out if AI can make THEM money and they're spending a ton right now. i think ultimately the huge models will pay off -- it's the middle ground that's a little bit shaky thanks for your thoughful comment!!

These chatbots are too inaccurate and unreliable to be used in critical systems this won't change in the near future where its currently be used however there is not enough money to be found to justify the current costs its simple as that. The problem is many companies blindly boarded the bandwagon "to not miss this opportunity" not realizing the big limits of what these systems can do and what not. You can't magiclly improve these systems twofold every year its at a complicated software frontier and the current transformer based large language models will still "hallucinate" (outputting nonsense as a legit answer).

A smartphone a minute is just over half a million smartphones per year but their claim shown at 10:48 was they could make 10 million a year so that would be a smartphone every 3 seconds. Either their claim is wrong or you should have said 20 full cell phones every minute in the sentence that followed. I wonder which is true but I'll assume it's 10 million phones a year, which is still probably an overestimation but that's what they claim. Even with 10 million phones sold a year I wonder what the return on investment is, if it will be before those phones are too outdated, like who would buy phones produced 20 years ago and would you be able to sell 10 million a year of them every year at a price that would cover the cost of running that dark factory.
@AIForHumansShow
@AIForHumansShow 23 күн бұрын
i think the investment is likely in the systems to make the next thing as well -- i would assume this isn't JUST for this specific phone but a more general system that can make whatever the next thing down the line is as well... but you're right - the question will be is how quickly the tech advances + is this dark factory completely out of date within a few years etc

@AIForHumansShow Interesting clip and fascinating discussion. The key question, for me, is what is the relationship between scaling cost and model improvement. If a model increases in size by 10x and cost to create it by 5x, but only improves the quality of the output by 3%, is that worthwhile? Even if hallucination rates decrease from 5% to 2%, I will still need to manually check the result. Does this justify a 5x price increase for an end user? Probably not. If the model price remains the same, it's beneficial but not game-changing. Keep up the great videos - they're truly thought-provoking!

There's so many hurdles in the way of giant corporations using this tech right now so you're absolutely right. But given the current environment where like one bad news story (even about an individual or a small issue) can blow up into a massive stock drop, it's not hard to understand why they move so slow. Universities are often the worst offenders in the slow tech world which is weirdly ironic considering how many students would wanna push forward with it. Thanks for watching & your comment!

I personally disagree. I think we are about to hit a major breakthrough in a.i come July 22nd. I am loving Claude 3.5 Sonnet, I have built several applications using it's new artifact features, it even built me a fully working remote desktop which I can access via a web browser anywhere. A.i can do amazing things, the problem is that people want the credit, and feel too embarrassed to say a.i did the work. For example, I had chatgpt and Claude go back and forth to write and self critique a scifi called "Mirrors of the Mind", and it is the BEST scifi i have ever read! I forgot to mention, chatgpt makes ALL of my videos and even generates the prompts for the images and image to video.

If you can't see that Middle Schoolers are going to be able to produce compelling short films by like, 2030, you've got your eyes closed. @@AIForHumansShow You have large amounts of money flowing into the large companies (NVDA, MS, Apple) for the perceived value that AI will bring. Objectively, AI is not bringing that value in dollar terms. Companies are not generating 500 billion + of profit that can be attributed to AI or adoption. Will this happen in the future? Maybe, but there are few examples of anything that could produce that amount of value. Additionally, VCs are handing out money to companies with zero product and zero revenue/profit. OpenAI and Anthropic are loosing propositions, meaning they are not profitable. If this was the Oil or Railroad industry could companies with similar dynamic survive?
