Ai Upscaling With Topaz And Edius

The results of topaz on the poorly lite and artifact hi-8 footage was pretty amazing. The difference became smaller with better quality footage. It's still sharper but the help began to take on the look of an oil painting. I wonder if Edius 11 has any improvements. I have both some legacy Hi-8 (should be decent quality) and DV footage I wanted to send to HD.

Topaz has got better since the video. I agree it can do an amazing job. EDIUS 11 has some new things but nothing really on this front.

I've found that Revert Compression is a magic tool for adding definition to what might already be a fairly clean clip. Cranking it really doesn't hurt in my experience.

Can i upscale only part of the video?

Not directly in Topaz - it just deals with clips as a whole. For what you want to do, you would need to put your clip in an editor, further split it (to separate the part you want to process) and then process the split clips individually in Topaz. Then, reassemble them in the editor. Perfectly doable. But no, you can't process specific parts of a single clip within Topaz itself.
