Interesting video, however when I changed 'Progressive' into 'Upper field' for a long clip and I got an overlay on that clip saying 'Davinci Resolve Studio' ... Resolve is not that free as one might think.😵💫
@ivanburvenich514228 күн бұрын
And testing further revealed another issue: capture video via Media Express using the DVCPRO HD format, which don't require to set 'Upper field' in Resolve: the overlay(watermark) is also there in Resolve free and the sound has a few seconds delay (done during capturing - double checked outside Resolve). So that is not nice neither. Blackmagic: Thank you! 😭 Any way: one should pay for the Davinci Resolve Studio version once you have a too long clip. From what size on? AND Blackmagic Media Express has an issue with the DVCPRO format. Possible solution: extract audio from the video and shift the audio compared to the video ... OMG! I can accept the concept of time limitation, no problem. But the sound delay issue is unacceptable = a program bug.

With QT just add a box with the transparency on the fill set to 100%, tick border line and set the colour and width you want and then transparency at 0% and you get an outline of a box. In Vistitle you can do something similar by making a shape, adding and edge and making the fill transparent.

For EDIUS 11 you will need a more recent driver. If you use the EDIUS setup tool it will update it for you, if not just go for either the latest or something after 12.4.1. Then it should appear in EDIUS. If you have the Intensity Pro then that is what will show up in Media Express, even though all the drivers are called "decklink"

Thanks for the video. I have just purchased a BM intensity pro 4K capture card and wish to capture and archive analog vhs video in original interlaced PAL format. Will DR allow for this? Do I assume it has to be one of the uncompressed codec options to preserve the video in its original interlaced state? I am trying to capture and preserve first before I upscale and deinterlace so that I can go back to the original video at any time down the track. Would I be better to use media express for this first preserve step?

As I say in the video above I think you are better off capturing with Media Express into DVCPro HD than using Resolve. The files will be small and they will know the correct aspect ratio and field order. I think Topaz is really good at upscaling and I have that as well. AVC has the colourisation feature which Topaz does not and I use quite a bit.
@williammchugh43614 ай бұрын
I ended up trying a few others. HitPaw's trial is too limited (small preview only) to evaluate what it would really look like. VideoProc was recommended and I tried it but the models were too limited. It made people look sort of weird (especially the eyes) and there was no way to adjust it to tone it down..... Then I experimented with AVCLabs. I found that the best setting for me was just the denoise model with slight face work and sharpening (for well shot 480P). Unfortunately, AVCLabs denoise model also took detail out of the image making things like arms look smooth and weird. Before I could experiment any further to confirm that I should purchase AVCLabs, they cut off the watermarked trial. Unable to confirm it would work- I dropped that one too. So it seems Topaz is lkely the only game in town, unless I can take a que from my experimenting and find another good upscaling tool with workable denoise and sharpen. I was doing very little face work with these programs because even at 480P to 1080P, the faces looked noticeably strange. My wife walked in and said "wow, his eyes look crazy like someone off the tv show V." A medium shot of an interview guest just doesn't have enough facial information there at 480P (even well lite) to do AI facial from what I've seen. Close shots seems ok though.

I generally only record standard def through a Blackmagic card as for all HD I copy files off cards/hard drives. For SD component is best, SVIDEO second best and composite worst. But most SD devices only have composite or SVIDEO (if you have a SCART socket it will be composite out). For 4K you need HDMI or SDI and the Decklink will do that. However the only 4K formats are uncompressed - huge files which will need VERY fast hard drives to capture and possibly MJPEG (I have not tried the latter).

From some comments I have had below you may also see that soem types of cameras don't work using the programs I have mentioned - although all the Sony cameras I have used do work. If you want to try the Thunderbolt route get the parts from somewhere that you can send then back to if they don't work - I can do this through Amazon.
