AIDC F-CK-1 Ching Kuo - A Short History on the Taiwanese Indigenous Defence Fighter

The AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo is also known as the Indigenous Defense Fighter. Taiwan initiated the IDF program when the United States refused to sell them F-20 Tigershark and F-16 Fighting Falcon jet fighters following diplomatic pressure from China.
The F-CK-1 is produced by The Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AICD).

Ck means “Ching-kuo” Named after Chiang Ching-kuo,the President of Taiwan who decided to expand the indigenous defense industry in 1980s. In 1980-1990,Taiwan designed and built AT-3 attack/trainer and F-CK-1 fighter

This is the true descendant of the f-20 tiger sharks. Uses a lot of the same parts, but in a distinctive home brewed design.

Well, sorta. The airframe is General Dynamics (F-16) design, whereas the F-20 was a Northrup product, derived from the F-5. The radar is the one element that this airplane shares with the F-20. I worked on the GD-53 technology transfer program (redesigned and updated the FFT processor boards) when I was at GE in the late 80s. It's a pretty cute, exceedingly capable radar, especially considering how small it is...
