I was a jet engine mechanic on F-106's at Malmstom AFB and in support of planes in Korea, our jet shop was at Kadena on Okinawa. We used to get flyovers at Malmstom from 102's with the Guard from Montana which were stationed near by. I always liked the duece.

I have over 1000 hours in the F-102 (Deuce) as a member of the 111th FIS. 147th FIG, TxANG at Ellington Field. We flew operational, training and Air Defense Alert missions in the U. S. and Canada. Several of our pilots also flew with the 509th FIS, 405 TFW, PACAF during the Vietnam war. They were primarily based at Clark AB, PI with detachments at Tainan, Taiwan and several bases in S. Vietnam and Thailand. The Deuce was by far the best flying airplane I've ever flown...

My father, Moses Capps, flew the F-102. I have fainted memories of him taking us to the base and seeing the planes take off and land. Every time I see or hear of the F-102, I immediately think of my father... R.I.P. dad, miss you.

I worked for Sperry in Phoenix back in the 80's doing helicopter autopilots out in Litchfield, AZ where they were also turning F-102's into QF-102's. They had the tail sections removed to work on the engines. Those things were all engine! Amazing birds. At the same facility they were droning up F-86's for the Navy to use as targets. That made me want to cry - thinking about those beautiful things being targets. The sear size of of the -102 compared to the -86 had to be seen to be believed.

Lots of the Sperry pilots came through our F-102 Engineering Systems Course at Ellington when we had the F-102 and F-101 CCTS as a primary mission.

@@deanroome5420 Ellington in Houston? I grew up in the area and today live in the traffic pattern of Ellington’Field’. Houston turned Ellington AFB into a civilian field now.

Anyone interested in more should right now go and check Bruce Gordon, on his channel he tells stories of his experiences as a F102 and F106 pilot.

The fact both Delta Dagger and Dart were made to intercept high altitude, low maneuverable Soviet bombers and also intercept them at high speed before they could reach their targets, they're not a dogfighter and their primary role wasn't to engage enemy fighters, their AIM-4 and AIM-26 missiles were great and had great range but wasn't design to shoot down highly maneuverable aircraft

I always thought the deuce was an exercise in try and try again. Then I transfered to the 147th Houston and they had the sxs deuce called the TUB. IT WAS.

Did you get to fly the 101? I always thought it was the best looking fighter out there.

@@robertstack2144 I lived in the traffic pattern of Ellington AFB (now Ellington field) as a kid. Still do as a matter of fact - love watching the fast movers and transports fly around - and just loved those big beasts. When I was 16 I soloed out of Humphrey field in Baytown; on my second pattern of my first solo flight a Voodoo came across the field at pattern altitude and cut me out of the pattern. A big test for a first time solo pilot!
