I'm not the only one to think this campaign is far darker and grittier than the previous one? As in, there's a sort of earthy type to it. Celtic music works best for that!

I have noticed it as well. gotta say I really like it.

Apart from the Briarwood arc though. That was pretty dark.
@Landis9635 жыл бұрын
@@Evija3000 It was, but in a different way. If you'll indulge the simile, Briarwoods arc was like dark chocolate, or really strong red wine. Campaign 2 is closer to black coffee, in terms of darkness.
@Evija30005 жыл бұрын
@@Landis963 Yeah nice simile. I think the arc itself was rather dark, however it felt lighter because almost everything else about the campaign was lighter - most character backstories and personalities, political situation, other arcs. In that sense it's like white coffee. :) Still coffee, but made lighter by milk.
@danielskovbjerg45625 жыл бұрын
also, campaign 2 has a more civilian theme to it. As in, the mighty nein are just people in the world that help when they can (or are paid enough, which is often the case, which just proves your point)

I felt like crying hearing this. I dunno why, maybe because this was made in the very beginning before everything. Before the gentlemen, before Cad, before the ball eater, before the happy fun ball, before the bright queen, before swordless fjord, before all of that..

I know i'm a year late to your comment but it also gets me how the opening already sounds like its something that happened long ago and like a tale past despite the fact this was made early on.

Anyone else think at 0:48 they actually look like a big family? Fjord's the laid back, wise father figure, Yasha's the Morticia Addams-esque mother. Nott and Jester are the youngsters of the pack, Beau's the rebellious teenager who just wants to fight everything and Caleb is the typical shut-in nerd of the family. Can't quite place Mollymauk though, maybe the fabulous cousin? Featuring also, of course, the family cat, Frumpkin. Anyway, this is a side comment. Absolutely top drawer effort on the theme, I hope this is canon.

In six minutes and twenty seconds, I went out on an adventure, slew all manners of beasts and monstrosities, earned more gold than I could even carry, became pretty powerful, and was treated like a savior, a hero... but most importantly, I made friends--no, FAMILY--along the way. The power of imagination coupled with amazing music sure is something, even more so with games the likes of DnD (and beyond, haha!), and is a big reason why I'm a proud nerd. So stay proud y'all--we've got a good thing going for us.

I have had some very difficult few months and I have not listened to this masterpiece in almost a year because I had remove most of my music off my phone. So, I was just listening to some epic music covers today and randomly thought "hm, i haven't listened to A New Kind of Hero in a while". You know, this piece has been my anchor during very hard times these past few years and listening to it opened several gates within me I didn't even know were closed... I feel like every emotion just flew through me. I do not remember the last time I cried out of genuine joy but I'm bawling right now. I've never felt light-headed after listening to a song but I feel like I'm floating right now. I forgot how deeply I love this arrangement and how much of a beacon this has been in my life. I know, this is a lot of rambling over a 6-year old piece you've probably already forgotten about but please know that I will never forget it. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating this and sharing it with us.

What I love the most is just there’s this section where it starts to really pick up and you can almost hear a crowd roaring in the background . It has a very upbeat and folkish Celtic approach that almost screams. Get up GET UP AND GO DO SOMETHING AMAZING . It also feels very earthy it’s not like fox machina in the sense that they where richest warriors who followed the path of good where as this is more mighty nine they are neither perfect nor these amazing do gooders they do good things it they are not do only good follow the path of light type of heroes

The Mighty Nein are still my favorite of the current main 3 campaign parties. I learned of Vox Machina vicariously through clips and animatics, as well as the animated show. And I’m enjoying Bell’s Hells as they are the most uncoordinated bunch of miscreants. But the Mighty Nein is home to me and still my favorite. Vox Machina were heroes of their realm, but the Mighty Nein found personal happiness and peaceful lives.

The thing I like about this is that, first, it's got a Celtic sound. Every time I hear the Uaellian pipes, I think of Ireland, also known as the "Emerald Isle," which in and of itself sounds like a fantasy setting. But more than that...this has all of the "slow-fast-slow-fast" beats that accompany a good story. Slow beats, where you find the quiet moments. Fast beats, where it seems frantic, and you don't know if the characters in the story will live or die, succeed or fail. At the end, it feels like the buildup to a final battle, and then quiet...like the battle is done, the story is in its final chapter. Then a fade-out, like reading the last page of a story that has kept one riveted to their seat. Such a good story, one cannot help but keep reading the story, and must read it to the end. This is a musical story, no doubt -- one that is fitting for the adventuring party known as the Mighty Nein. Well done!

Vox Machina were heroes by choice, they reached for fame and glory alongside helping others. The Mighty Nein were far from that. Almost every action they took was out of desperation to survive and/or to avoid major conflicts. They didn't seek fame, money, or glory. They were together due to circumstance, and acted as they did because they wanted to. Then their friend lost his life, making them realize how bad they were acting. They understandably wanted to avoid conflict if possible for some time after this, only ever being forcefully dragged into conflict kicking and screaming. Despite their lack of morals, and their lack of care for the happenings of the world, they have accomplished much. They struggle, fail, and sometimes succeed, but by their strength, skill, and friendship keeping them from falling down a darker path they have become more than they are individually. They weren't heroes by choice, but against all odds they still managed to become heroes.

From someone who's reaching the more recent chapters of their Story, I can just imagine the themes for the Nein getting darker, sadder, more terrible as trauma and danger and threat piles and piles and piles upon them... And then they reach That Point. The Darkest before the Dawn point. And their allies, their friends, their companions, their Family comes to their aid and this song begins to play as the Nein stand tall. Mighty once more.

Absolutely wonderful. If you are interesting in some creative thoughts on possible directions for individual themes ... I feel like Nott would be a furtive, flighty piece like a Flight of the Bumblebee but performed in flute / bass flute tones. I can't help but think of Caleb as a sullen and serious brass quintet ballad. Yasha to me invokes a Euphonium or Tuba type voice as a probably quick count march type of theme. Mollymauk feels like it needs to include an accordion feel to it, because carnie. I don't have a good enough sense of the others quite yet to have music in mind. But you are doing so well. Feel free to use the ideas (or not) as you like. :)
@Landis9636 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of that. Fjord needs the sort of instrumentation that would work at sea, something with a vague sense of dread in the background (Maybe an accordion there as well? Violin wood doesn't do too hot with constant moisture, and brass is right out). Jester, on the other hand, needs a piccolo or ocarina as the touchstone instrument, and no dread to be found anywhere.
