Lenny, awesome videos. Excellent demos complete with explanations and entertainment. I have spent the last 32 yrs. involved in karate mainly, Shorin-ryu & Shotokan karate-do with the past 5 yrs paying more attention to kata bunkai. I found your videos while searching KZbin for more opinions on interpretations. Your respect & passion for tradition while making aikido more user friendly and applicable is commendable. Like you, myself along with others in our dojo have been practicing & teaching practical application to our karate students for years. Many of the techniques you present ( irimi,tai sabaki,nikyo) to name a few I find woven into our kata. No matter what the origin is of the martial art the styles were made by men and are all relative so you'll never hear my way is The Way coming from me. Trophies and titles are great for the sporting end of martial arts and I have no problem coaching and encouraging sport. Provided the students differentiate between sporting mind and reality mind. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to combative Ran Dori video.

Excellent Kaitenage demonstration. I love how you show the hand change, but (almost) more importantly I like how you show a proper Yokomenuchi by Uke (when he uses BOTH hands as if he was using a boken which results in the second hand being on-guard to protect the face). This (TO ME) is real, old school, powerful aikido.

Great stuff!! I've been training in aikido takemusu in India for 21yrs and we have followed the traditional second version which you showed with an atemi added.The version you show is more economical and practical though, and can be used as a more advanced training. looking forward to the ppf Tenshin kaiten nage.

Ikeda Sensei is the man! I took ukemi for him in Chicago about 8-9 years ago...and it was like grabbing water or something. He is ridiculously centered and his aikido works effortlessly! He is a very knowledgeable and generous teacher. And you Aikido is impressive as well Sensei, keep it coming.

Chicago Aikikai seminar. My friend chuck and I went to several of them while Choate Sensei was alive. And I think that I have seen you somewhere in Chicago before youtube, but I cannot place it.

kevin rynearson It was probably at Chicago Aikikai, Kevin Choate sensei was my first aikido teacher! I started aikido there when i was 18 yrs old, I'm now 45. I also met Ikeda sensei for the first time there when i was 18 along with Saotome sensei. If you went to kevins wake i was there too.

THE ROGUE WARRIORS - Where Warriors are FORGED My friend is Chuck Kapachinski. I can't speak for him but I haven't trained for about 3 years, I am 49. I don't care for most of the teachers around here. And I would really like to come out there, but it's kind of a long haul for me now that I live in Wisconsin . But who knows I would like to check it out.

I really like how fluid your movements are. However, (as you probably agree) these movements are not very economic and take thus too much time. Still, they can easily disorient someone.
