Aikido opened my mind to how to interact in the world in a healthy way.

I could fight before I took Aikido, it refined me and gave me more options on how to respond to an aggressor. Avoid charges, stop the threat, and only use the amount of force required to stop the problem.

The traditional art form is BEAUTIFUL/LETHAL. Yet, cutting to the chase (not being overwhelmed with choices, with the art form) is CRUCIAL when defining yourself w/o creating too much damage.

I would train both Aikido and Judo at the same time. Get the Kuzushi Waza down pat ingrained into the nervous system.

Aikido is such a research about how to cancel, absorb, avoid, return an attack that I'll never change my mind about what it is. I have the chance to practice with Toshiro Suga, it's a very martial form, constantly seeking for efficiency and realism, far from the dancy way we can see around, and it's passionnant. Thanks to you guys for all your videos, cheers from Brittany ( France).

I like the 'flow' of analysis in this discussion guys. Never hurts to reflect on your journey and what might have been, if only to gain perspective.🧡 To answer the question, the only thing I would change about my development as a practitioner would be to begin studying it earlier in my life and commit to it with greater discipline.

Great question! I'm came to Aikido later, at age 33. Practiced for 10 years, earned my Shodan, but then life got busier with kids and stuff and I had to choose between Aikido and the hybrid Kempo/Kung Fu system i learned growing up, along with Tai Chi, up until my long time Sensei's death earlier this year. While there are many things I like about Aikido, just like the other stuff I've learned, there's always things that I thought were kinda time-wasting. Growing up I did have a fascination with Aikido (thanks Steven Seagal) and was happy to get to train in it when I did. I guess I wish I'd started some of my Kempo/Kung Fu training sooner, and been more consistent with it growing up. As is now, I'm teaching an adult Tai Chi/Qigong class, while figuring out what I want to do with my old Sensei's hybrid system, and which aspects of Aikido I'd like to incorporate. Anyway, love the channel and wish you both all the best!

If I could start over my martial arts journey I’d do aikido again, which was my second art after judo and before karate. After getting my black belt in judo and aikido I can see how each at can be useful in certain situations,, so there’s no such thing as. COMPLETE MARTIAL ART.

For me, I would probably go for Yoshinkan Aikido. It's the only Aikido Style the Japanese Police use, apparently. Perhaps it's more suited for what happens on the street. Though I've never trained in that style.

Not sure what's up with all the "philosophical" videos of late in the series. Nice to hear some of the stuff, but wonder if it would make more sense to just put a transcript up of the discussions somewhere on the website, with headings appropriate to each. ? That way the questions could be answered, but without taking up a whole video that could be better dedicated to actual practice of techniques. ? 🤔 KEEP ON GROWING AIKIDOFLOWERS!

We all travel a martial path. Each one individual. I came to Aikido from karate. I got disheartened with the sport emphasis of karate. Aikido is martial and more budo, this I think is why it is misunderstood by bjj mma etc. There are no rules and no restrictions except yourself. It either works or it doesn't. Nowhere to hide. Arigato.

I would like to see the reversed roles of nage and uke: nage yields to uke during practice.

You have to know the rules to break the rules. You can't find your own aikido until you've learned the fundamentals of it. You need to understand HOW and WHY it works before you can start making your own. It takes a long time to do that. Shodan means 'beginning degree' and is used instead of ichidan (which would be '1st degree') to emphasise that getting your black belt doesn't mean you've finished, in fact you've just started. You've learned the basics, now you can start developing your own variations. I think that is what you guys have done here - taken the teachings of the traditional art and learned how you can use that in your own way.

In terms of being afraid to hurt some one if you hit them depends on the context of the situation ive done frontline security for 15 years whilst training in different stuff everything works everything fails is my moto. And as you said in a previous video no martial art lets us down we let it down. I am curious though Azu asca doorman were there times that you felt you coukd have done better in a situation?.

What is the style of aikido you use or you have created your own style?
@yoseidan1607Ай бұрын
Dear fellow, letme, respectfully tell you something, there is no such thing like "style" in the real Aikido, there is only one Aikido "style"... YOU OWN, and the only way to learn this is : Training. Good luck.
@khaderalikhan3029Ай бұрын
Yes aikido in its otiginal firm would not be ideal for self-defence, but there is a reason why its taught this way abd that's to make it easier for begginers with no knowledge of martial arts, not even effective movement and balance to understand basics before graduating to self-defence.

I did aikijitsutsu until 5 years it's same familly as aikido one day i fought a karateka black belt he was very fast my technique didn't work in front of him his punch was really fast and i loose against him now i do brazilian jitsutsu

Training methods aside, the philosophy comes with a highly expansive lineage. It has assumed some real critical people. World peace is our path, Aikido transcends alot of borders, boundaries and stereotypes. I guess it's never to confuse actual combat with the Aiki training method.

Aikido is great when you are stronger than your opponent. If your opponent is physically strong, you need to equalize with a weapon like a knife. Then Aikido becomes the defense of that weapon.

I missed that one statement very much.... Aikido gives me choice.... If I were to start all over again way back 30 odd years ago..... would I choose Karatedo? Welll.... NO!!! I would have chosen Krav Maga... brutal, cruel & inhuman.... I am a coward.... lost combat training to girls.... my strong point is kata & the explanations of kata.... BUT.... NOT application.... poor pity me.... would I consider Aikido? hard to say.... maybe.... all of those locks & breaks... up close & point blank range.... yeah maybe....
