Of course Simon, it wouldn't be appropriate to post a video without students "enjoying" themselves :)

Nice drill, Daniel. Am I wrong if I see the movements from kata like Heian Shodan (at the first kiai)?

@@DanielPyatt I've always seen more as a aishi guruma or a variant of that. But I like your version. I'm going to try it with my coming beginners class to see what works for them.
@DanielPyatt
@DanielPyatt 4 жыл бұрын
@@ninjadane9365 There is a variant with ashi guruma as well which is quite common which we also do. This merely a selection from a much broader set of techniques. And be gentle with your beginners you might break them :D

I have no intention of breaking my student. That would just be counter-intuitive. At least not until they have learned their ukemi-waza well enough.

Hi Daniel, I can see many similarities between your Karate jutsu and Billy Doak's Goshin Jujutsu. Is there any links? Anyway, that blend of go and ju in your system is in my opinion the finest one I have seen so far. Great work. Rgds,

Hey, there is indeed. Billy's photo is one of the photos behind in our dojo as he was one of my instructors teachers and I had the privilege of knowing and training with Billy on seminars and courses etc. Whilst I can't regard Billy as one of my teachers I do regard him as an enormous inspiration on my journey and I cherish everything I was fortunate enough to learn from him and his students.

Great technique. The only critique I’d make is that an attacker would never leave his arms out after striking.The Uke is leaving his arms out like a mummy. While the techniques are solid, the choreographed sequences are highly unrealistic. One/two yes, but 3-4 counters and the attacker still with the arms out like a mummy will never happen in reality. Good skill though, not criticizing the skill level I see. The sequences look awesome but are not realistic.

Look more carefully at the defense joey and consider what is happening and then consider that it makes absolutely no difference what he does with his arms. The technique works the same if he snaps it back or drives in but of course there is no explanation with these techniques so thats up for you to think about.

Daniel Pyatt I disagree. Leaving the arms extended is what permits some of the throws to be applied. If the uke were to pull back or follow thru after the attempted strikes, the arms would not be in the position they are for some of the throws to be implemented. The uke strikes and freezes. That would never happen. I started studying in the 70s, grew up in Spanish Harlem, I’m a veteran, and I’m 60 now. Unlike many masters out there I have actually used karate to defend myself for real and against real danger. Not just once but many times. I have been threatened with a gun, attacked with a knife, and many hand to hand combat situations, and aside from a few scars I’m alive and healthy. Attackers will not strike and leave their arms extended in front, never ever will this scenario happen in real life. The techniques shown are performed with a high level of skill. I acknowledge that, and I also acknowledge that demos cannot imitate reality accurately. I have done many demos and I understand all demos are rehearsed and not real. And I know and like the techniques shown. But it is critical to observers to realize that the uke is behaving in an unnatural way to make the demo look as good as it does. I think that’s a fair/honest observation, not intended to minimize the technical expertise of the demonstrator, and made by someone who has been in the thick of things in the streets and a lifetime of experience to base my comments on. I hope you find my comments useful. Thank you.

Adding strikes to jujitsu does not make it Aikijujitsu. Good training though but these are sport finishes.
@DanielPyatt
@DanielPyatt 4 жыл бұрын
The differences between Jujitsu and Aikijujutsu have nothing to do with strikes. Also just because these techniques can be applied to sport doesn't mean they don't have a PRIOR martial application and whether those are shown in full or not doesn't determine whether the art shown is named in a particular way.
