Yama arashi. Variations thereof. And... is it a "hand throw" or a "shoulder throw" or something else?

Interesting. It's brilliant that you acknowledge the issues with translation and nuances of language and therefore unashamedly admit your own linguistic take on the techniques. Very crisp technique too. Thank you

Can you make a video showing how various throws would work against a bigger/taller/heavier opponent and what you might need to change about your technique to deal with a height/weight/strength disparity? I dont have much practice in martial arts so I dont know if there is or not but I would love to see how various throws would work against someone who has a physical advantage over you.

Hey, apologies for terribly slow response I've only just seen this comment for some reason didn't make it to my inbox but yes I can do video on that topic and will look to cover it in the future.

Is your uke really a white belt? I’m assuming not hachi kyu, though. I do aikijujutsu and the naming is different but really interesting, thank you.
@DanielPyatt2 жыл бұрын
No any more but at the time in our grading system he was just prior to yellow. He is now a green belt and still terrible :D there is a lot of common naming variation just like synonyms in English you get many in Japanese phraseology
@amandastrader2 жыл бұрын
@@DanielPyatt very interesting. I did get to the end where koshi came in more which is exactly the technique I was looking for today. His ukemi is impressive, your drills must be fun. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for a very consise and well produced video. Really informative. May I ask your view on pining the attacker's left hand to his hip before immediately going into a right sided seoi nage? Could you illustrate this with any tips you have, in a future upload - pros and cons? I've seen other instructors give it a passing mention but interested in your thoughful analysis. In a self defence scenario away from a dojo leaving a hand free to reach for a knife while you have your back to him, even briefly, is not advised.

Patrick But-Not-A-Saint hey, thanks for your comments really appreciated and glad you liked it. Your observation is correct that one of the inherent weaknesses of shoulder throw is the risk of back exposure. I will be releasing a video in a few days which actually has one of these methods in demonstrated by my Sensei where the opponents free arm is trapped across the body during the entry phase, this is very important in Jujutsu verses Judo. Obviously this video focuses more on the roots of names and classifications.

@@DanielPyatt that is great! Keep up the great work. Showing why one throw DOESN'T work on a bigger/faster/stronger attacker, and why another does, and here-it-is might be worth including too, perhaps?

Ryukyu kobujutsu, aikijutsu and kenjutsu are all part of japanese jujutsu right?
@DanielPyatt3 жыл бұрын
No, and yes. Ryukyu kobujutsu is it’s own specific martial art. It is a form of emonojutsu the art of weaponry which is in Japanese Jujitsu but the form is quite different. Kenjutsu is often but not always synonymous with Japanese jujitsu as the two are closely linked

I think the thinner man should be throwing the heavier man. See how well it really works. I mean, I can see the hip play from around the second half of the video onward, but other people might not. Also, if you grab a punch, I don't think you'll have time to hit or position your hand or twist or whatever. You'll only have time to throw.

Just wonderful, been searching for "list of judo ground techniques" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Keyandon Judo Process - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my mate got great success with it.

I'm currently building an online portal for members that will have detailed study of the groundwork of Judo and Japanese Jujitsu. Announcements will be made on the challenge soon.
