@@Marko-the-Beast-Master they have been live on instagram together. Before joining the Band Floor went to Tarja who was already her friend to get her blessing to join. Which she got. Its worth noting Marko and Tarja are classically trainned. They reunited in 2012 for a natonal Christmas show in Finland. They met backstage and reports of tears and hugs from that encounter to later you see them on stage singing and holding eachother . I would say like a brother/sister relatiinship. They went on to duet on her own version of an Ave Maria to him guesting on stage with her a few years later. Can you blame them. Magic. Pure magic. Frienship, training, talent come together. What else do I call it? Other then mention Andrew Lloyd Webber the dude who wrote the musical has said they are his favourite non stage duo.

There's no possible fair comparison. Floor did very well on Beste Singers and is a performance powerhouse on a variety of styles, but Tarja was simply born and grown for this performance as a gift from gods to humanity.

My favourite version of this song. It just brings so much memories. Phantom and Wishmaster were the first songs I heard of Nightwish and I'm in love ever since. You should dive deeper in NW history and check out more of Tarja era. "Sleeping sun" (beautiful ballad), "I wish I had an angel", "Nemo", "The siren" for example. If you like to do NW history please don't forget Anette. She was the singer between Tarja and Floor. There are people who don't respect her as much as she deserves it. She came after Tarja and didn't sing with opera voice. I really like her era, too. They did two amazing albums with her. So you could go with "Amaranth" (very popular song of NW), Eva (beautiful ballad), "Sahara" live in Serbia 2008 or my secret favourite "Turn loose the mermaids". Some say she wasn't good enough live, but on many videos on youtube she was ill. Live in Serbia 2008 is a good one, for example. I saw NW live with Tarja and Anette and enjoyed both very much :-) every singer of them shines individually!

In my opinion, this is one of the best versions of "The Phantom of the Opera", if not the best. This is one of the first songs I heard from Nightwish, and it got me into the metal world. For me, Tarja has been the best singer in the band, more for personal-emotional than technical reasons, but still Floor and Annette are also important points for the band, and I have enjoyed each of the NW eras. As you say, you do not have to compare them since each one has contributed something at the time. Hopefully you can hear "The Siren" and "Sleeping Sun" sung by Tarja, they are very good songs (and the whole album "Once", is my favorite NW album).

@@shirazzza oh absolutely. I always love watching Jukka. But i also have to say, i really like Kai, too. He has Not the Same Charisma, but his drumming is on point. Yesterday i was watching the full nightwish Show at Wembley 2015. That was absolutely amazing. For me, very Close to Wacken 2013. But now.... I really miss Marko. Floor is amazing when she tries, to fill up Markos parts. But it is not the same.

@@chewie2648 agree, Kai is so wonderfully technical but when Jukka is going ham standing up beating the hell out of his kit there's nothing like it. Poor bugger to have health issues that stop him doing that. With the virtual show it was like super evident that they were down such an enigmatic singer. Troy can hold his own but like he just doesn't have the same experience as Marko who has his sound absolutely cemented to who he is as a performer. And Floor is able to go off but I miss them both being so intense it really would lift the songs to a new level.

This was in Helsinki, Finland. 2005. I was 18 then, just graduated high school & I was there as a graduation gift for October!!! I'm 37 now. Beautiful venue. Beautiful country. So welcoming... My first exposure to Nightwish was the studio video for "Nemo" (already considered one of the top 100 rock songs of this century) with Tarja.. followed by "I wish I had an Angel"... End of an Era was the original Finnish band, performing before a Finnish audience at the Hartwall Arena. Some of the really standout performances were "The Siren", "Sleeping Sun" , "Slaying the Dreamer", and "Ever Dream". My understanding is that Tarja was unaware that this performance was her "Swan Song".. she was informed after the show that she was being let go.

She was informed via a sealed letter she was told not to open until the morning. By which time the band had published it on the website! They did her dirty. The date was October 21, 2005. Helsinki Finland last date of the ONCE upon a tour. 11, 500 in attendance. Kittos is thank you. Politeness is very very important in Finnish culture. The irony is not lost on me. Tarja did not vanish BTW. Far from it. 9 studio albums. 5 live albums. Something like 50 singles. Live festivals. She went back and finished her master's degree in music. She has a family with her husband/manager Marcello and daughter Naomi. Still together from way back when she was 28 at time of filming. Her response to their betrayal can be found with songs like I walk Alone, Never Enough or, Anteroom of death. You won't hear from them about scheduling dates without telling her. Without giving her time to rest her voice. Her input ignored. Consider she was a founding member and it was because of her voice they became a symphonic metal band instead of folk rock. She took twice as long to finish her education to give the band the time she needed to. She has an Autobiography called Singing in my blood, she wrote during lockdown. She has done two seasons so far of the Sr voice Finland. As a coach her student won this year. She is releasing tracks from her project started in 2014 called Outlanders. Working with some of the best musicians on the planet like Vernon Reed of In Living Colour. Filmed in Antigua. Her style of singing is more accurately chamber music not opera but they're close cousins in classical. And if you want to hear that for real she tackles Stauss' Mein Herr Marquis on the 2014 live album Beauty and the beat. Her range is 3 octaves and her top note I believe is #D5 and Marco's just below that. Tarja was contracted for one more album and tour. Which she was prepared to do but had informed the band that she would be leaving after that. Again this was 2005. Two years notice seems reasonable. Considering how Annette was dismissed next when she had to quit the tour over Christmas 2010 as she had gone into labour, it does not look like they behaved well. What I can say is from her diverse style and interests and the fact that she was not a teenager but full grown and ready to start her own life and explore her own interests it must have been stifling. Even bands like Genesis have seen the importance of allowing side projects for its members. Phil had his solo career. Mike Rutherford had Mike & the Mechanics. There is a rich variety of solo work of Tarja's to show how she has grown in the 15+ years. Her singing style has evolved and grown. In no small part to going back to school twice.

In 1996 a polyp was found in Marko's left vocal cord. It was removed by surgery, but it didn't go as planned, and resulted in a nerve damage, the doctor said everything was going to be ok in a couple of weeks after surgery but is wasn't. Marko could not sing at all, he had to work hard to get his voice back, but he lost his clean upper falsetto for good, and he can't sing as relaxed as before the surgery. On top of that the surgery was unnecessary, the problem could have been solved through voice therapy. But he can still scream G5 like in this performance.

This song is how I was introduced to nightwish back in 2004. Ugh I stopped following them after tarja was no longer in the group. I was heartbroken and started following again when I heard floor sing. Many of these die-hard reaction fans will not tell you Tarja's perspective. She was leaving on her own accord and had a mutual agreement with Tuomas and the guys that she would stay for one more album and one more world tour. She thus gave the guys years in notice, more than enough time to make a smooth transition and find the perfect replacement etc. They accused her for not being loyal and for having priorities set on her solo career - and that her husband was the main influence behind this, the same husband who also was her manager. 9 months prior to this show, however, the guys decided that they would fire Tarja earlier, and 7 months prior it was decided that it would be after this particular concert. Meanwhile, they acted as if everything was okay and according to the original agreement. They thus blatantly lied to Tarja's face every day for 9 months, and to the whole world in interviews and press conferences. You see, Tarja wanted to be public with her leaving, but she kept it secret because it was Tuomas's wish to be so. You will hear vague accusations like that she never rehearsed or traveled with the band, that she did all of those things separately. Not true at all, there is plenty of footage to prove the opposite. In her last years, however, she did more frequently travel separately - but not by her own choice, she suggested the whole band should travel by aircraft when the offer was there and possible to relieve from stress of being on a bumpy cramped bus with no concentration or time to rest in between shows. She also lived in Germany and Argentina and did naturally have to come from a separate route. Why did Tarja want to leave the band in the first place? She felt like a guest, and not like an equal member. The guys would violate her rights and integrity repeatedly by contracting full tours without letting her view the terms and conditions. They could make mutual decisions that a certain tour would be of a period of 2 weeks, like one they were supposed to have in North America after Once was released. Without notifying Tarja, the guys contracted a tour of 4 weeks behind her back, and Tarja finds out from fans weeks after tickets have been on sale. One time, she was even notified during THE SAME DAY that an additional double concert was happening in the same city, whereas she had been informed that they would have that day for leisure and time-off. The guys try to twist this in the Open Letter and imply that Tarja wanted to cancel the show, but its a blatant lie, her husband gave receipts to prove it from an e-mail exchange. The guys will however not be honest and say that in the end it was all about money and opportunity. Once took Nightwish to international stardom, it is today their biggest selling album, some 2,5 million copies, surpassing Dark Passion Play. Marco gave Tuomas an ultimatum, saying Tarja has to leave, or he leaves, he writes about this in his bibliography. Yet, in the Open Letter, they accused Tarja for caring more about fame and money. But it's contradictory as hell. She wanted to reduce the amounts of shows = less exposure and money. She declined numerous offers by other bands and labels just to show loyalty to the guys, which arguably could have made her richer. Marco even used the words that Tarja was "costing him money". She emphasized that they should play fewer but bigger concerts in bigger venues, to be strategic and smart about it. Today, Nightwish has followed her advice and do exactly what she suggested from head to toe. Keep in mind, this world tour was 140 shows, which is quite a lot (with worse circumstances in 2005 than today), and they cussed her for not giving time and effort to do even more, and this happened in a time when Tarja's mother passed away from cancer, but Tarja has too much class and humility to talk about this, she only openly mentioned this some 10 years AFTER the whole drama to spear the guys from further embarrassment. She never once threw them under the bus or called them any names unlike they who branded her the "greedy diva". They also advised her to not mix a career in music with a partner of foreign culture, i.e. her Argentinian husband, demonstrating xenophobic tendencies even. All in all, everything could have been avoided if the guys were just open and honest and would grab Tarja to sit and talk, and just say "This is not working, you will have to leave earlier, let's settle this peacefully", and Tarja would have agreed. They purposefully choose to lie and scheme to conjure a spectacle on her expense with the intent to control the narrative and keep all the fans whilst smearing her name and robbing her of the whole network which she helped build for 9 years. People are thankfully not dumb, hence the "backlash". Tuomas deserves no pity-party and he is not a martyr. Very few people will tell you this because they do not want their idol, one of the best metal composers out there, to be guilty of such behavior, but it is nonetheless the truth. Was Tarja right in her concern about the hectic schedule? Do the math, in 9 years with the band they released 5 studio albums. 15 years post-Tarja, they have only released 4 studio albums. Every band member today has solo projects, and they have long breaks in between the albums and the tours. In Tarja's era, voicing any wishes of this was frowned upon and accusations thrown to the left and right. Thus, I want to believe that the guys have matured and learned their lesson.

The real standout here is Marko - what a beast! This was probably the last time Nightwish ever did or ever will perform this except for, perhaps, if Henk Poort shows up at a NW show and does it with Floor. I don't think Floor will ever get the chance to do it with Marko. This is an amazing version of this song - I just really wish I liked Tarja' voice more than I do.

I wouldn't be surprised, if Floor and Marko didn't sing the Phantom together on purpose. I mean, she had joined NW 9 years ago, there would have been plenty of time. But I assume the whole band wanted to avoid comparisons, hence they decided against this duet. I would have loved Marko and Floor singing the Phantom together, no discussion about it. But this will probably not happen.

I have seen as some coaches feel that they both had the show, some feel Marco stole the show, and a couple feel that Tarja kept the show. People that don’t like TARJA get some kind of weird satisfaction out of saying that anyone within her vicinity did better than her, when it doesn’t have to be at all. It’s a collaboration, calm down. But she didn't know that, the others give her a letter after the show (for me Tarjas best live show and best produced) and say to her please read it tomorrow in the morning. I hear NW since 1997 and looking this video or the whole show is so bittersweet. I’m at a point in my life where I have, as much as humanly possible, taken the act of comparing and judging out of my life. It took a lot of years and hard and painful work but it was well worth. I have opened up my life to much more joy and appreciation. I agree with another comment (and you) that both Floor and Tarja have something to offer in different situations. I also have to agree with someone else that I love this version of this. We who have been following Nightwish from the beginning may not understand this comparison between Tarja and Floor at all. Without Tarja, Nightwish would not have become such a cult band in Finland either, because we have had extremely good other metal bands here since the beginning of time! If you don’t believe, find out. Nightwish stood out because they had Tarja. remember the time when Tarja resigned and how we felt that Nightwish ended up.. . But Because Nightwish is the best metal band in worl!! they find Floor! Today, Nightwish is thriving because they have the Floor! And we old Nightwish fans really love her too!

Tarja didn't know this was her last time with the band. She was given a letter and told not to open it till the next day so the band could release it publicly beforehand to get ahead of her in their side of the story, which have proven out to be lies. Much like they did with Annette as well.

Not lies. How they saw it. There's 3 sides to this story. How they saw things, how she saw things and how things actually was. She would do one more album with them and the leave. So might as well just get it over with and cut ties. It resulted in some great songs. As for Anette! I'd just say listen to her sing. Don't really need anymore reason than that to get rid of her honestly. But they clearly weren't happy together. Should they have kept her just so they could appear nice to the snowflakes?

Tarja's resignation was a dramatic episode. I remember how shocking it was for me and my friends to follow it all. Let me summarize what happened. The relationship between her and the band had not been good for some years. Because of this, Tarja decided to leave and communicated her decision to the group. She wanted to make her decision public and prepare fans for the change of vocalist, but Tuomas convinced her not to make it public until the recording of a next album after "Once". It turns out that, unlike agreed, the group planned and wrote a letter of resignation to Tarja without her knowing it. At the end of the show "End of an Era", the band delivered the letter to her, with the recommendation that she should not read it at that time. The following day that same letter was published on the band's website. In short, the band accused Tarja of being a diva and also criticized her husband, Marcelo. After the accusations made by the band, Tarja's husband came out in defense of her. He received, answered and made available on the internet more than 140 answers to questions sent by fans from all over the world. Tarja also wrote a public letter responding to the group. In it, she did not attack the band. In short she said she was shocked and sad, and said that she did not recognize herself in the description that the band made of her. She also gave a press conference, in which she responded in more detail to the attacks the band wrote in the letter. Tarja's dismissal was completely unnecessary. She had already told the group, approximately 2 years in advance, that she would leave the band. It seems to me that the group tried to punish her for that decision by launching a public letter with attacks on her and her husband. If any differences were unbearable, it would be enough to end the contract in a civilized manner. Because of the way the things went the band lost a lot of fans. Many of my friends, for example, stopped listening to Nightwish at the time. This was not the first time that the band acted in a bad manner. For example, Tarja was attacked once, in the middle of the show, and the band did nothing. At the ocasion, a crazy guy invaded the stage and tried to sexual abuse Tarja, but the band continued playing as if nothing was happening. They also did nothing in the backstage. Tarja was conforted by Marcelo at the time, a person the group just had known. Incidentally, Anette, the second vocalist, was also fired. She was pregnant, fell ill during the tour and had to go to the hospital. Then, the group decided to replace her with Floor. So it was not clear, if Tarja would be available for the next album. Tarja not going to rehearsals was also a point that was mentioned. There's also rumours about Tarja and her husband, the band's manager wanted to take full control of the band, plan everything, center the band activities around the likes of Tarja. Additionally it seems Tarja's husband sold band merch without the bands knowledge, and taking all the money from the sells. I'm not sure, which version is correct, but one thing I learned during my life: no party will tell the objective truth, there's always some subjectivity involved, depending on which side you are, you see things differently. No saying anybody's actually lying, everyone involved may be convinced that he is right. But would you agree that if Marcelo actually sold merch without the bands knowledge and keeping the money woudl throw a completely different light on the whole situation? I didn't hear about the incident yet, but it seems more of a failure of the security. As stated in the article, the whole thing went quite quick, not sure how much time there was for the band members to actually react, especially when you think you have security doing its job. I'm not defending them, but you on the other hand make a bold statement in the drection of the band not acting on purpose. Annette is a different story: as far as I know she was asked, if she would temporarily step out of the band during her pregnancy and if she would be OK with Floor taking over for that time. She refused to have Floor as a temp. replacement and went on tour. And it seems things went south then, the firing after going to hospital seems to be the end of a longer story going on for some time. As I already stated, I'm not claiming that I'm right here, but you clearly argue in favor and from the perspective of both singers. And based on my experience, the truth is usually not fully on one side or the other, but somewhere in between, especially as we don't know what was going on behind the scenes.

As far as the attempted sexual abuse, I shared the video in my first comment. Certainly there was a security failure, however, the point is that the band saw their vocalist being attacked and did nothing. The group didn't even stop playing after Tarja was no longer on stage. The song was finished without anyone singing. It's true that the security guards should be on the lookout, but it's absurd for me that no one stopped playing to defend Tarja. This is a matter of giving help to those in need. Furthermore, even though hypothetically no one has seen the moment of the attack, it is absurd to continue playing without knowing what happened to the vocalist. Tarja left the stage along with the security guards and the crazy fan, but even so the band didn't interrupt the music to see how she was doing. Regarding the accusations against Marcelo, as far as I know he was never sued by the band, so I don't know if these accusations are true. About the rehearsals, do you really believe that Tarja would perform so well without rehearsing? This is not true. Both Tarja and Marcelo also talked about it.

Nightwish's 3 singers: 1. Tarja (original singer): 1995 to 2005 2. Annette: 2006 to 2012 3. Floor (current singer): 2013 to 2020+ everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop/rock singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop/rock singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's dark classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out. so, it comes down to "Targasm” (Tarja) vs “Floorgasm” (Floor) in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she does back when with nightwish, as nightwish was created for tarja's unique dark operatic singing/voice, (now with her own band, or solo, she does a greater range of singing), but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish (many others will help you out with Floor's songs, so I'll just stick to Tarja's songs here) ---------- if you do like Tarja with nightwish, here's some good ones: (NOT ranked, just listed) 1. End of an Era (her last concert with nightwish, hard to find good quality and the entire concert, as it gets taken down) 2. Phantom of the Opera (her duet with Marco, really good, both of them together, this song was actually used in the Phantom of the Opera remake movie in 2004) 3. Wishmaster 4. Planet Hell (marco sings in this song as well) 5. End of All Hope 6. Dead Boy's Poem 7. Nemo (watch the official music video and also her live performance of it) 8. Kinslayer 9. she is my sin 10. wish I had an angel 11. slaying the dreamer 12. the siren 13. dead to the world 14. 10th man down 15. walking in the air 16. ghost love score and many more too ------ Tarja has her own stage performance/presence, but the focus is on the entire band (much more respectful), unlike with floor, where the focus is almost entirely on her, and also, Phantom of the Opera isn't about that much showmanship, so you're not seeing more of Tarja's performance/presence (love how the camera work and Tarja worked together, with her ducking down, seeing Marcus as he delivered his singing, and then Tarja stands back up, seeing her face back in the camera as Marco's part ends and hers begins again, Tarja is really such a team player, as she could have had all the focus upon herself, like Floor gets, but instead she chooses to give the entire band the respect and focus that they too deserve, it's not all about Tarja, like it is with Floor, despite how good Tarja is and thus how she could be the entire focus with nightwish, as is Floor with nightwish) there's other songs, where Tarja was way way way more stage performance/presence/showmanship, including hair windmills, rocking an invisible guitar along with empuu rocking his guitar, along with her doing her squatting too as she sings and taps her foot/leg to it, as she's swinging those hips too, along with her getting the crowd involved as well too, and etc stuff, you got to watch way more songs, to really see her amazing stage presence/performance and showmanship, as Phantom of the Opera is likely the one song with the least of that stuff, due to the nature of the song itself, being about their singing (contrasting and then cacophonous harmonous duet, nothing can compete with Tarja and Marco voices duet'ing), though Marco and Tarja had a bit of showmanship and fun snuck into it, with Marco pointing to his face and Tarja's facial expression reactions, while both song their parts

I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but, to really see Tarja and the origins of Nightwish, you'll have to travel back a few more years to their " From Wishes to Eternity" live concert. Marko wasn't even part of the band yet. That's where the old school NW fans first fell in love with the band and it's unique lead singer. Tarja's operatic style made NW stand out from all the other symphonic power metal bands. I love the line up of that particular DVD and it's difficult for me to say what song is my favorite, but I'd suggest a reaction to "Wanderlust" which has several interesting transitions within the song.
