Welcome! Who is Diana Ankudinova? Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage. There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old. Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started … Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl. Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to KZbin and soon she had millions of fans. The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship. Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers. 2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is. She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. It is interesting to note that Diana Ankudinova was only 18 when this performance took place. This cover of the Elvis Presley classic, "Can't Help Falling In Love" now belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto voice, which is a very rare female voice type. In particular, Diana's tone quality, timbre, the fullness and roundness of her sound, her resonance, and the depth of her voice define her as a "dramatic contralto", which makes her one of the rarest of the rare types of contraltos. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a very rare talent and is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes her sound like she has two different voices at the same time. Diana does this through the resonance which is created by the airflow through the lungs, throat, mouth, and the placement of her tongue which is why some people mistakingly think she is using a voice synthesizer or a vocoder to manipulate her sound, or there's another voice singing in the background, or she is singing over a pre-recorded track, which she is not. What you are hearing is really just Diana Ankudinova. Also, on average the majority of female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until they are around 22 to 25 years of age. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach full vocal maturity because when she does she will have had 4 to 7 more years of voice training with her voice coach plus adding years to hone her live performance skills. When that day comes, there can be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold and a force to be reconded with. Also, the judges on this panel are all professional singers themselves and in this show, they compete and judge each other. Set and lighting. Net result, 5th Elements Diva set against Camerons planet Pandora at night in Avatar, all packed into a 3.5mins format. Diana has not had an easy life. Her mother abandoned her when she was very young and she was eventually placed in an orphanage. When she didn't speak at the same age as other kids, she was placed in a singing program where they thought it might help her to talk, so she has been singing from an early age. somewhere along the line, she learned to yodel, and if you really search, you might be able to find an early video of her yodeling. She has participated in a variety of Russian youth singing competitions, but this is her first adult competition. If you want to see some of her earlier videos, you might look for Wicked Game, Rechenka, or Danse Derniere. I've heard her sing in Russian, English, Spanish, and French so far. I am blessed to be living in a time where I can enjoy such wonderful music as this from around the world.

Diana is a true Contralto like the world-famous singer Cher. Diana has gone lower than I ever heard Cher take the vocals. Diana is also obviously multi-lingual. I am not sure exactly how much she understands of each of the other languages but she has sung in her native tongue (Russian, obviously), French, English and I think even Italian. Knowing her, there are even more songs and languages that I am not aware of... She's absolutely World-Class. :)

This show she is on was called the ShowMaskGoOn which she competes with other known singers in Russia, this one was the first she performed and has eight more that you would enjoy to watch. She went on to win this competition after performing Personal Jesus. My favorite of all the songs she performed on this show is called the “Crow”, which will absolutely blow your mind. There are hundreds of covers of this song and few touch me and come close to Elvis, but Diana and her trainers and musicians are smart and she makes her own song out of it. Diana sang this song by Elvis Presley in the first episode of the competition 'Шоумаскгоон' (ShowMASKgoon). This was Diana's first adult competition in November 2021. She was the youngest competitor (aged 18) and wowed contestants and spectators with her first song. I enjoyed your reaction. At this stage of my life I did not expect to discover a singer who would completely blow me away. I certainly did not expect anyone to dethrone Whitney as The Voice (NOT in terms of range or vocal ability, but in the way she touches the soul) in my private musical world. I've followed Diana for years and she had that rich lower register at 14. She's incredibly unique. Her voice is so complex and has so many frequencies her voice almost sounds synthetic at times. She's the rare true contralto, but it's the harmonics of her voice that really add the extra punch. She's very good at formant structure, clever vowel modifications, and creating a lot of space like a bass singer. She's mastered singing with a lowered larynx even when singing with a high placement. She also has wonderful overtones for that double voice sound. If you want to see her beginnings I recommend the performance of Rechenka when she was 14. You could then go in chronological order to see how she progressed. She became a contralto around 14 when the Rechenka performance occurred and was really insecure in head voice. Opting instead for her expertise in yodeling to use falsetto and chest heavy mixes instead. This elvis cover was very much a showcase of all the hard work she put in over the years to get her confidence back in full head voice. This performance was her first song on a unique singing show last year. We got to see a performance every Saturday for 9 weeks. She did two rock covers on that show; one was Russian with the original singer as the guest, and the other was Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus. However, the mixing was a little poor on the Depeche Mode performance for some reason. Maybe their primary sound engineer was out sick or something. She did a live set for the radio show "Autoradio" where she sang that cover again with her voice much more forward in the mix. I recommend that one if you listen to it. She also sang Rag'N'Bone Man's Human on that radio set as well as some of her originals from her new full length album. A good starting place for chronological viewing of her stuff would be something like: Rechenka (Russian Folk song) Wicked Game (Chris Isaak cover) Blizzard Tomorrow Is A Lie (Lara Fabian cover) For everything else I recommend seeing the newest performances. She did two radio sets last year for Autoradio. That's also where her most recent performance of Derniere Danse by Indila can be found. If you enjoy dissonance you will really enjoy this rabbit hole. Diana really likes harmonic minor scale and dissonance.

Yaaay Diana! Recommend checking first her as a kid: She is singing since little child, auditioned for Voice Kids at age of 13 but got no votes (18M+ views on her Jodel time attempt making it the most viewed audition of any non chosen performer). Then at age of 14 her "You are Super!" era started: they made a show for kids with tormented background, where they made funny, beautiful performances, like sailors dancing around them, etc. Then Diana entered, with a voice of an Earth goddess. And since the crew was highly professional they did excellent job giving her the opportunity to shine. She took it, won that season (Season 2), and the season 3 (Super Season where the best returned) at age of 15. Great reaction and for an 18 year old girl, her voice is just unbelievable. From what I've read she is what's called a "dramatic contralto", a very rare voice type. At her young age (she started singing around 5), she's only going to get better, which is just mind blowing. Another famous contralto is the singer Cher.

There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won this competition. She shocked the other singers with the first song. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. She is 18 in these episodes. Seriously you need to check out her performance of (translated) Crow. You get to explore an aspect that many people talk about when they react to her music - it is what people often refer to as “shamanic” or something that is primal, or organic or natural. This song you reacted to today definitely highlights her classical training, but Crow - and also an older song called Rechenka (river) - illustrate her “shamanic” sense. True masterpieces.
